# 3510  McQuaid Jesuit Wins First Block

*+Penfield at McQ

McQuaid Jesuit scored the final four goals of the game spanning the entire second half to secure their first ever Section Five Title.  The Black Knights Penf vs McQuaidhave been to the Finals three times in program history (including last year's 9-5 loss vs. Pittsford), but this was their first time taking home the Title.  The game was a defensive battle with McQuaid Jesuit winning 6-4 over Penfield.  Penfield sophomore goalie Mason Schembri and McQuaid Jesuit senior goalie Will Gordon were both named to the All-Tournament team.  Schembri finished with 10 saves and Gordon finished with 7 saves.  Offensively, Adam Schembri (2g-1a) led for the Patriots and John Harding (2a) led for the Knights.  Both were named to the All-Tournament team with Harding being named the Class A MVP.

Penf vs McQuaidThe game started off with Penfield scoring back-to-back goals.  Schembri assisted the first goal with Christian Brown (1g-1a) scoring.  Three minutes later, he scored the goal with an outside shot that found the back of the net.  McQuaid Jesuit responded with two of their own to the tie the game at 2-2.  The first was scored by JP Gianforti and the second by Will DiMarco.  DiMarco scored his goal after scooping up the ball on the crease and finished into the back of the net.  The Patriots added one more goal before the end of the quarter.  Ethan Aust scored with a feed from Zach Shores.  The Patriots led 3-2 after twelve minutes.

Penf vs McQuaidIn the second quarter, Penfield scored the only goal.  Schembri scored with an assist from Brown; Brown fed the ball into a tight crease and Schembri was able to score with an underhand shot.  Penfield extended their lead to 4-2 going into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Knights.  McQuaid Jesuit scored four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game and secure the win.  Three of the four goals were scored in the third quarter.  All three goals were assisted and the culmination of multiple quick passes.  The first ended with AJ Quagrello assisting Will Engle.  Harding assisted the second and third goals with feeds to Ryan Woodard and Domenic Giangreco. Penf vs McQuaid Giangreco, a sophomore, finished the game with 1g; however, he was demonstrative in getting the Knights the ball during the face-off draw.  McQuaid Jesuit led 5-4 after three quarters. The lone goal of the fourth quarter was scored with a drive along the top of the restraining line by Vincenzo Giangreco.  McQuaid Jesuit will move on to the NY State Tournament this weekend.

Additional players named to the All-Tournament team included Luke Fliss (Pittsford), Mitchell Monte (Fairport), Gianforti (McQuaid Jesuit), Will Engel (McQuaid Jesuit), Ryan Bowerman (Penfield), Ethan Aust (Penfield).

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - The semifinals for both Classes A and B were played tonight and it will be Victor vs Irondequoit in the Class B Championship and McQuaid vs Penfield in the Class A Championship on Tuesday.

Irond at CanadFAIRPORT-5 vs PENFIELD-12 - The game was close for three quarters but five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter including four in a two-minute period. Leading the scoring for Penfield (12-6) were senior attackman Ethan Aust (5g-2a), senior attackman Zach Shores (2g-2a), and sophomore attackman Brodie Joyce (2g-1a) who reached his 50th career goal in the game. Facing off for Penfield was senior Nikolai Lopatka with 10+/5- = 67%. In the goal for Penfield was sophomore Mason Schembri with 7s/5ga = 58% (43 mins). Scoring for Fairport (10-8) were Ryan Pedro (2g), Mitchell Monte (2a), Sam Pucci (2g), Andrew Crowley, (1a), Nicholas Fosegan (1a), and Michael Priddy (1g).    [ BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

Irond at CanadSPENCERPORT-4 vs VICTOR-10 - Victor defeated Spencerport 10-4 to advance to the Championship game on Tuesday.  The Blue Devils scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back.  Although the Rangers pressed hard to finish the third, the Blue Devils were able to score the final three goals and secure the win.  Leading in scoring for the Blue was senior Jack Herendeen with 2g-4a.  Junior Brody Secker finished with 2g-2a and both Jackson Mead and Aiden Clinkscales finished with 2g.  For the Rangers Zach Tortoara finished with 2g to lead his team.  In the cage for Spencerport, senior Taylor Kaye finished with 13 saves....[ This story Continues ].      [ BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

Irond at CanadPITTSFORD-5 vs MCQUAID JESUIT-8 - Scoring for Pittsford (8-8) were senior midfielder Luke Fliss (2g), junior attackman Brady Goetz (2a), freshman offensiveman Cole Goetz (1g), junior attackman Charlie Ryan (1g), and sophomore midfielder Avery Valenti (1g).  There was no report from McQuaid Jesuit (16-2) at post-time.    [ BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

Irond at CanadIRONDEQUOIT-10 vs CANANDAIGUA-6 - Irondequoit came out strong in their 10-6 win over Canandaigua.  The Eagles scored five goals in the opening quarter to take the early lead.  Leading that charge was Steven Clinkscales, who finished with 4g-1a.  The game was plagued with multiple penalties and both teams had changes at man-up.  Irondequoit finished with 4 man-up goals; while Canandaigua was only able to capitalize one single man-up goal.....[ This story Continues ].      [ BOX SCORE]   - - More images in the photo gallery.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were thirteen games played mostly in rain today as the regular season starts to unwind and three were close ones. Penfield was a 9-7 winner over Brighton. Hilton defeated Aquinas by a score of 9-7. Canandaigua defeated Pittsford by a score of 7-5. Pal-Mac defeated Gananda to give the Red Raiders a perfect regular season at 16-0.

McQuaid Jesuit used a 7 goal third quarter to pull ahead and defeat Penfield 10-6 in tonight’s second match-up.  The game was a defensive game for three quarters with 9 of the 17 total goals coming in the third quarter.  Penfield’s Mason Schembri finished at 50% with 8 of his 10 saves coming in the first half.  McQuaid Jesuit’s Will Gordon finished at 60% with 9 saves in the contest.  Offensively, McQuaid Jesuit’s Henry Coke and Penfield’s Ethan Aust both finished with 3g to lead their respective teams.  McQuaid Jesuit moves on to face Pittsford in the Finals on Tuesday.
