Players of the Week - Group 5

- Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with Geneva Club Beverages are sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our fifth group we have a senior and a sophomore who had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Marco Vengoechea

Marco Vengoechea  - Senior HFL Midfielder

Marco Vengoechea had a big week even with two close losses for the Cougars. In the Irondequoit games Marco scored seven of the eleven team points (5g-2a). In the East Aurora game he scored six of the eleven points (4g-2a). The SUNY Cortland commit is in his fourth year on the Varsity and, with 96 goals is closing in on his 100 goal milestone.

Head Coach Eric Goodberlet says, "Marco has been a varsity contributor since his freshman year, and has brought a work ethic and level of leadership to our program that has been game changing for us. He is in my opinion the definition of a two-way midfielder. He is a force on both ends of the field, and never takes a play off. Marco battles in every aspect of the game, and raises the bar for those around him. "

Defensive Player of the Week

Eli RicciEli Ricci - Sophomore Victor Face off Midfielder

Eli Ricci is a sophomore faceoff midfielder in his third year on the Varsity, who passed his 500th faceoff win last week. In his three games last week he won 15 (94%) against Spencerport, 27 (93%) against Irondequoit, and 16 (89% against Niskayuna. His ground ball production is currently at 369.

Head Coach Dan Stone says,"Eli was forced to miss his fall and winter athletic seasons while recovering. Absence makes the heart grow fonder truly applies to him. Being on the sidelines during football and wrestling seasons supporting the teams provided Eli with new perspectives and appreciation for opportunities to compete. His work at the X is critical to our success, and the growing threat he poses as a midfielder enhances it. Off the field, Eli understands the responsibility of being in the eye of our youth and younger scholastic players, and makes it a point to give back to them and demonstrate the impact a role model can create."

Note: Face-off players are considered for both offensive and defensive Players of the Week.

Honorable Mentions: Rider VanZandt (L-A-G), Reid Diehl (Pal-Mac), Max Hill (Pal-Mac), Ryland Dunham (Geneva), Preston Jackson (R-H).
