As the Honeoye Falls-Lima (HFL) Boys Lacrosse team prepares for the 2025 season, expectations are high.The Cougars, coming off a strong 2024 season with a record of 19-3, are hungry for more success.

The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players.The 2024 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "after that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players."

The Monroe County Division 1 Player of the Year was Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece Storm). Jonah Carrier (Irondequoit) was the Division 2 Player of the Year and Chase Perryman (HFL) was Division 3 Player of the Year. Nominees for the Bob Scott Award were Ben Cook (HFL), Anthony DeRosa (Schroeder) and Adam Schembri (Penfield).

There were thirty-four teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled eight games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 1,149 players on the final rosters, up 256 players from 2023. Penfield and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-eight players and Haverling and Pal-Mac with the smallest with nineteen. 

*+The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were quarterfinal games played today in the NYSPHSAA Lacrosse Tournaments and Section V teams won each game.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were 11 games played today and 2 were close ones. Pal-Mac was a 8-7 winner over Geneva. McQuaid Jesuit defeated Pittsford by a score of 8-7.

*+Having punched their tickets in the semi-finals, the first Championship Day is set for Tuesday. Honeoye Falls-Lima, the top seeded team will play #3 Wayne to open the night starting at 5:00 PM. The second game will feature top seeded Pittsford who will play #2 McQuaid Jesuit at 7:30PM.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The golf event at Oak Hill was not the only program inconvenienced by the hard rain all day. The last six games of the regular season were played today. Bloomfield-Honeoye won their game with Brockport in "sudden victory". The Storm won their game with Gates Chili 9-4 and HFL beat Churchville-Chil 17-10,  but the four other games were mismatched.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - With 1.9 seconds left in regulation, Baldwinsville senior Carson Dyl (3g) scored the winning goal to give the Bees a 7-6 win at home. Spencerport had a one goal win over Lake Shore (Section VI). Other winners include Mynderse, Aquinas, R-H, Pittsford, HFL, Irondequoit and Thomas.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - Out of the fourteen games played today, ten were mismatches. The others include a come from behind win for Mynderse in their game with Newark. Pittsford had an 8-2 win over Thomas and Schroeder beat Hilton 10-6. The Waterloo team did not have enough players for their game with Geneva and in the closest game of the night, Irondequoit took a 12-11 victory at Churchville-Chili.    BOX SCORE] 

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Although the majority of games ended in mismatches, there were a couple of exciting games. Topping the list is Canandaigua's 4-3 win at Brighton where neither team scored in the second half. Pittsford took an early lead and then never gave it up in the 8-6 win over visiting Irondequoit and Spencerport held Fairport scoreless in two quarters in their 7-3 win at home. Penfield scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and then coasted to their 11-7 win over visiting Schroeder.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Long-time Penfield coach, John Schembri won his 150th game today at the Patriots defeated Churchville-Chili 15-4. Hilton used overtime to beat Thomas with a goal by senior attackman Nicholas Fede. McQuaid won their first series game against Rush-Henrietta. At Pittsford, the Panthers held off late advances by St Joseph and took the 8-7 win. Other winners were HF-L, Schroeder and Brockport who gave their Head Coaches a first win, East-United-Eastridge, Livonia-Avon and Spencerport.

Schroeder had a very young team last year and paid their dues, so they expect that this year there will be a payoff as they return their two offensive leaders who, among others, are strong and ready to play.
