Irondequoit has been struggling but Head Coach Aaron Bottazzo remembers from his own playing days on the fields at Irondequoit what it takes, and he is working to get the Eagles back on track. He will be helped some this year with the MC-3 alignment.

Irondequoit has one of the most stories histories in scholastic lacrosse. Their eighth Head Coach, Aaron Bottazzo, was hired in 2020 and is an Irondequoit alumnus who played for John Pratt. He will be seeing his first action with the team when he hosts Thomas on May third. Like many coaches he is ready to get on the field, "Right now, the boys are extremely excited to have the opportunity to get back out on the field and compete with each other and against the top-notch lacrosse teams we see in section V. After losing the season last year, we can' t wait to find out about ourselves and see what we can become."

Section V lacrosse added another team (Wayne) to its roster which now totals thirty-seven teams and 1,123 players.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the final 2012 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2012 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and another seventy-four honorable mentions were led by Fairport senior goalie, Blaze Rioden who was named "Player of the Year".

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2012 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Saturday, July 14th.

Only six teams were left playing lacrosse today at the close of the 2012 season in New York State. Two of them were from Section Five. However, a strong game by Shoreham-Warding River's two-time junior All-American, Tim Rotanz ended the dream for Penn Yan as the Wildcats beat Penn Yan 10-6.

Irondequoit and Penn Yan both won their ticket to the New York State Championships on Saturday as the result of their wins today. Pen Yan defeated Homer 10-8 in the first game of the day at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Fairport, Irondequoit and Penn Yan each won their ticket to the final four today as they each won their Far Western New York Championship game at Hamburg.

The top seeded Penn Yan (Class C), Irondequoit (Class B) and Fairport (Class A) each won their games on Championship Tuesday to earn their trips to the NYS tournament which, for Section V, starts on Saturday with the quarter finals games in Buffalo.

It was a sucessful trip to Syracuse for Section Five as two of the three teams won their UpState Championships and punched their tickets to the NYS Championships in Middletown on Saturday.

After a clean sweep in Buffalo, all three Section Five teams will move on to the semifinal round to be held at Cicero-North Syracuse High School on Wednesday.

For the second time, Section Five Lacrosse has selected first and second team All-Section players. The 2012 first team lists sixteen players and includes the ten All-Americans previously announced. 

After two out bracket games that did not involve Section Five, the 2012 NYS tournament will be fully underway on Saturday, June 2nd.

All three top seeds will wear the home whites on Tuesday when they play for their Section Five titles. Fairport beat Hilton tonight and will play Penfield for beat Pittsford. Irondequoit beat Victor tonight and will play Canandaigua who beat Churchville-Chili and Penn Yan was the winner over HF-L which puts them up against Livonia who defeated Aquinas tonight.

The quarter final round finished with nine higher seeded teams winning, most by large numbers and three lower seeded teams winning. Canandaigua (#6) beat Spencerport (#3) 10-8. Victor (#5) beat McQuaid Jesuit (#4) 21-9.

The All Tournament Teams for 2012 were announced on Championship Tuesday. MVP for A, B and C were Pat VanBortle (Fairport), Briele Caples (Irondequoit) and Brandon Maciejewski (Penn Yan).

The Head Coaches of Section Five met on Sunday afternoon to listen to the presentations on twenty-seven players who had been nominated for All-America Team honors. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area of the country.

Fairport took a 7-1 lead on their way to a 8-5 win over visiting Irondequoit to preserve their perfect regular season (16-0). Victor defeated Pittsford 13-12, Penfield beat Orchard Park 13-8, Newark beat B-H, Arc/Oly took out Eastridge 9-6 and Aquinas beat Canisius 4-3.

The surprise results of the night was Fairport's dramatic win against Pittsford as the Raiders won 9-1. In other parts of the Section, Pal-Mac's Ben Reeves and Spencerport's Matt Kaser both broke the 100 point mark for the season.

It was a beautiful day for lacrosse and six games were played. Most of the games were overmatches, with the closest game being Marcus Whitman over Wayne 8-4.

In a game that went right to last minute, Irondequoit defeated Pittsford 7-6. Fairport won a 5-2 victory over visiting Penn Yan. Thomas beat Brighton 8-6 and HF-L took at 9-8 win from Webster Schroeder. Penfield won their game with Canandaigua 10-6.

Five games were postponed but ten games were played. Schroeder led for most of the game, but Penn Yan came back for an 8-5 win on the road. Bloomfield-Honeoye scored two goals in the last quarter to beat Wayne Central 5-3. Midlakes defeated Batavia 11-10.

Preseason 2013 - In a change from tradition, SportsFive will not be publishing individual preseason reports for each of the teams in the section this year.

There were 16 games in the Section today. Several were close and a number were not. Pittsford beat a determined McQuaid Jesuit 7-6. Waterloo beat Wayne 3-1.

Pittsford dodged the bullet this afternoon with an double overtime win against a determined Webster Thomas. Fairport and Penn Yan, the only undefeated teams left in the Section won their games.

There were fifteen games played on Thursday and most of them were not close. The most exciting game of the day may have been Irondequoit's 9-7 win over Penfield.

Wayne Central won their first varsity game today when they beat Midlakes 7-6. Canandaigua won in overtime against Victor. It was Eastridge over Greece Lightning 11-8, Geneva over Waterloo 6-2, Mynderse over Newark 10-7 and Gananda over the Pride 8-7.

On a very rainy day there were fourteen games played. Ithaca (Section IV) broke three tied quarters to beat visiting Irondequoit 11-8. With 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period, Aaron Buck scored during a double man-up opportunity to secure a 13-12 win for the Churchville-Chili over Spencerport.

Irondequoit traveled to Massachusetts and brought home a 4-3 win against the Duxbury Dragons. Penn Yan overcame a 4-0 first quarter deficit and scored twelve unanswered goals starting in the second quarter in their 12-4 defeat over Geneva.

Three games were played on Wednesday. Irondequoit defeated Webster Thomas 10-5, West Genesee beat Penfield 16-9 and McQuaid Jesuit defeated Livonia 13-9 in GRALL action.

On the last day of March there were a dozen games played and one game postponed. The most exciting game was Gates over Eastridge in overtime. Pal-Mac Beat Geneva 8-7.

Seven games were played on Tuesday including two GRALL league games. Five games were won by nine or more goals.

After three weeks of warm weather it was a little disheartening to have drizzle and cooler weather for the start of the game season. Three of the four games played in the section today were hosted at Aquinas. The first game of the season was Haverling-Haverling vs Mynderse Academy.

It will come as no surprise that Irondequoit appears to be the top team in Monroe County Division 2. The Eagles come off a Sectional Championship and return some of the most impressive players in Section Five.

The Rochester team won both games and, as a result won the cup. The score in the first game was 15-11. The score in the second game was 15-8. A post-tournament report is available

In the end the top seeded teams in each of the three class won out tonight as Penn Yan, Irondequoit and Pittsford each won. Penn Yan won it's 16th championship with a 12-6 win over Haverling.

Both Pittsford in Class A and Irondequoit, in Class B will move forward to the New York State Final Four on Wednesday.

It's the end of the road for the two remaining Section Five teams as Pittsford lost in double over time to Ithaca and Irondequoit lost to Jamesville-DeWitt in the NYS semi finals at St John Fisher College.

The 2011 Boys Lacrosse Championship Day, sponsored by the Canandaigua National Bank, will see the top two seeds in each class battling it out on the campus of St. John Fisher College in Pittsford.

Pittsford's 10-1 win against Spencerport gave the Panthers an unusual perfect regular season, finishing at 16-0. A number of games were canceled due to thunder storms in the area, but more of the late games were played. Rush-Henrietta had an exciting 4-3 overtime win against Livonia. Schroeder beat HF-L 11-9 and Brighton had an exciting one goal win against Thomas.

There were sixteen games played in the Section today and a number of very exciting ones including a 7-6 win for Fairport over Penfield with no time left on the clock. Haverling took Aquinas in double overtime and Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse in the first overtime period.

It was a long awaited match up and at the last moment, moved from Pittsford Mendon to St. John Fisher College, where the stands were nearly full. The Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for secure a 9-4 win over Fairport.

It was a tough day for several teams that played out-of-section games today as Penn Yan lost a close one to Clarence, Hamburg beat Thomas and Aquinas lost a close one to Timon.

Irondequoit was beaten tonight in a close and exciting game. Mike Larkin scored the game winning goal with 2:25 remaining. Although another large number of games were canceled due to weather/field conditions, seven other games were played.

n the nicest game day of the season , thus far, There were lots of games and a few surprises in the Section. Haverling won a 13-10 victory over Aquinas, Brighton scored five goals in the fourth quarter to take a 12-10 win from Rush-Henrietta.

Duxbury used a third quarter flurry of goals to nail down a 10-7 victory over Irondequoit this morning. Geneva posted five goals late in the game but lost in overtime to Canandaigua (11-10) and Penn Yan defeated Lakeland/Panas 8-5 this afternoon.

here were thirteen games today in Section Five and a large number of games were lop-sided. Winners by big margin included Fairport, Pittsford, Penfield, Penn Yan, Geneva and Pal-Mac.

Perhaps the most exciting game of the day was at Irondequoit tonight, where Pittsford kept their winning streak alive with a 13-11 win over the Eagles.

Last year we acknowledged that the "world" didn' t revolve around Class A any more, and in the end, Irondequoit gave Section Five anexciting finish as they ran from the fifth seed and finished in the the State Final Four.

There were a number of exciting games played on the second Saturday of the season. Rush-Henrietta defeated Canandaigua 9-6, Irondequoit beat Ithaca 13-10, Penn Yan just made it by Pal-Mac 10-9 and the Lightning won their game against ER in overtime.

Most of the games ended with run-away scores including Victor's 18-0 shutout over Batavia and Spencerport's 10-1 win over the Lightning. Penfield, Pittsford, Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Bright and Aquinas were all winners on Tuesday.

The Upstate Under Armour team has been selected and three, from Section Five made it. The rising seniors are Pittsford midfielder Corey Parke, and goalies Eric Fischer (Irondequoit) and Blaze Riorden (Fairport).

The brackets feel as seed in Class B except for the Eagles from Irondequoit (#5), who defeated McQuaid Jesuit (#4), 14-9. Canandaigua beat Spencerport 23-2, Brighton beat Victor 14-11 and Thomas defeated HFL, 16-4.

James Sturnick scored in overtime to give McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 victory at Pittsford. Penfield took a won goal, 9-8 win from Schroeder and Waterloo won a 13-12 game from Mynderse. The rest of the fifteen games in the Section were not so close.

The ' Lil Irish came back, late in the fourth quarter to force overtime where they defeated Haverling-Haverling in overtime this afternoon at Aquinas. Penfield held off a fired-up Rush-Henrietta and won their game 13-12 in regulation.

There has been a great deal of talk about the Canandaigua-Fairport game and the game itself met all expectations. With neither team leading my more than two goals, and with Fairport sending the game into overtime with two goal scored in the last seconds of the game, the estimated eleven hundred lacrosse fans were treated to a great game.

Penn Yan, currently ranked first in the SportsFive Class C list and Aquinas, currently ranked second played tonight at Aquinas with the Mustangs winning 14-6. Of the other thirteen games played today all were won by five or more and seven were won by ten or more.

A strong fourth quarter gave McQuaid Jesuit an 8-7 win over Penn Yan. James Sturnick dodged across the middle for the winning goal. In other action HFL defeated Churchville-Chili 9-8, Spencerport beat the Thunder 9-7, Pal-Mac won a 9-8 game with Midlakes.

Fairport continued their undefeated season (7-0) with a 15-4 win at Niagara Wheatfield (Section 6). In the only other game today, Irondequoit lost to host Ithaca 14-8.

Sixteen games but three went to double overtime. HF-L beat Schroeder 8-7, Pittsford beat Thomas 13-12 and McQuaid Jesuit beat Livonia 7-6, each in the second overtime period.

The newly renamed "Pride" from Bloomfield-Honeoye was an 8-7 winner over traveling Geneva and Churchville-Chili defeated Penfield (13-12), also in overtime.

Livonia (#3) upset Aquinas (#2) 10-9 in a Class C game. All other games were won by the first and second seeds. Fairport beat Schroeder 9-8, Thomas beat Pittsford 10-8, Canandaigua beat Brighton 15-7 and Irondequoit was a 12-5 winner over McQuaid Jesuit. In the other Class C game, Penn Yan defeated Geneva 9-7.

Academics and athletics were celebrated today at Irondequoit High School as six seniors, who have been playing lacrosse together since the third grade, picked up their pens and signed their way to the next phase of their lives.

The University of Binghamton has a long history of recruiting Section Five players and Head Coach Scott Nelson has picked up four more from this year's seniors, including Victor midfielder TJ DiSanto, who signed his National Letter of Intent on Tuesday. Fairport players Chris Bechle and Brian Martin and Irondequoit goalie Eric Fischer are also expected to play for the Bearcats. They will join Kraig Heston (AQ), JT Hauck (Thomas) and Tucker Nelson (Penfield) when they arrive on the Binghamton campus next fall.

Fairport senior midfielder Brian Martin knew right away that he wanted to go to college in New York State and so after some investigation it was not difficult to find his match at Binghamton University. "I knew once I started my recruiting that I wanted to stay in New York. I don't like traveling too far. I looked at some D-1 and D-3 schools and then Coach Nelson called one day. I took a visit, loved it and about a week later committed."

Senior attackman, Matt Kaser recently stated his decision to attend and play lacrosse at SUNY Binghamton after his final season with the Rangers. Last's year's MC-D3 "Player of the Year", Kaser was selected as a second team All-Section Five player and was named to the MC-D3 first team All League list.
