Unlike may of the game days of late, there were some very exciting games and scores today as 15 games were played. Mynderse beat Wayne 5-4, Fairport overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat Penn Yan 7-5 and Midlakes defeated Marcus Whitman 9-8.

It took overtime, but Pittsford beat Victor in a closely contested game 12-11. Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse by one, 6-5. Canandaigua beat R-H 16-11 and Midlakes beat B-H, 10-6.

Canandaigua played a night game in the cold rain, but went home with a win over Brighton. Geneva played Newark at Waterloo today and also came home with a win.

Tuesday: Victor Takes Irondequoit, Fairport Defeats Penfield
Finally, there were a number of close games played in the section today. Victor held off a last minute attack by Irondequoit to hold on to a 7-6 win. Hilton beat the Lightning 8-6, McQuaid came back hard to beat Livonia 14-13 in overtime.

Tuesday: Irondequoit takes Corning, Gananda over Waterloo
Twelve of the sixteen games played on Tuesday were mismatches in which the winning teams outscored their opponents by 184-49. Irondequoit beat visiting Corning 13-8. Gananda beat Waterloo 8-7 and Hilton was a 10-7 winner over Greece Lightning.

There were a number of out of section games played today and Section Six (Buffalo) won them all. Hamburg defeated Canandaigua 13-12, Orchard Park won their game with Pittsford and Williamsville-North beat Spencerport in overtime 13-12.

There were seventeen games scheduled for Tuesday and some although there were a number of mismatches, there were also some close ones. Mynderse took an early lead and fought off a late charge by Marcus Whitman to beat the Wildcats 10-7.

There were lots of games played in an around Section Five today. The day started with Mynderse beating Waterloo 8-6 and ended with an overtime win for Fairport, who defeated West Genesee 9-8.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2013 season. Senior midfielders Kevin Vaughn (Fairport), Jay Vakiener (Fairport) and Ben Brooks (Irondequoit), along wth senior defenseman Charlie Cummins (Penfield) and senior attackmen Albie DiPasquale (Pittsford) and Matt Kaser (Spencerport) were selected as USLacrosse All Americans.

There were only five games played today. Canandaigua broke open a tie with Geneva to win their game at Evans Field, 8-5. Webster Thomas had an exciting 9-8 win over visiting Churchville-Chili.

With most teams taking the weekend off, there were only three games scheduled for today. Penn Yan hosted HF-L and junior goalie Brandon Maciejewski earned a rare shutout as the Mustangs won 18-0.

The top seeded Penn Yan (Class C), Irondequoit (Class B) and Fairport (Class A) each won their games on Championship Tuesday to earn their trips to the NYS tournament which, for Section V, starts on Saturday with the quarter finals games in Buffalo.

Thursday: Fairport Remains Undefeated at 16-0
Fairport took a 7-1 lead on their way to a 8-5 win over visiting Irondequoit to preserve their perfect regular season (16-0). Victor defeated Pittsford 13-12, Penfield beat Orchard Park 13-8, Newark beat B-H, Arc/Oly took out Eastridge 9-6 and Aquinas beat Canisius 4-3.

On a very rainy day there were fourteen games played. Ithaca (Section IV) broke three tied quarters to beat visiting Irondequoit 11-8. With 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period, Aaron Buck scored during a double man-up opportunity to secure a 13-12 win for the Churchville-Chili over Spencerport.

Penn Yan, Penfield and HF-L were the winners on Friday. Penn Yan won the annual rivalry with a 7-3 win over visiting Canandaigua. Penfield scored three unanswered goals in the first to help win their game against the Long Island team from Lindenhurst 12-11.

Five Win at Dick`s Tournament
Five players from Section Five were members of the Elite Division of the Dick`s Tournament of Champions in Florida in December. Members of the SweetLax Lacrosse Club, the five were Pat LeMoine (Thomas), Willie Klan (Schroeder), Brandon Barker (Pittsford), Max Spaan (Penfield) and Eric Munn (Canandaigua). Joe Thon, Assistant Coach at McQuaid Jesuit was also a Coach.

Victor Takes Revenge on CA
After ending their season last year in a triple overtime during the Class B Finals, Victor was looking for revenge against Canandaigua. The Blue Devils scored the final three goals in this game to defeat the Braves 12-10.

After a triple overtime win in the Class B Finals last season, Canandaigua returns at the top of the pack. The Braves lost their next game to the Section VI Champion Hamburg. They return fifty-two percent of their roster this season with fourteen new players joining the team.

Last year was a big year for Section Five as we hosted New York State Tournament games from the quarter finals right through the Championships. Section Five Boys Lacrosse Coordinator, Mike Simon led his committee in the most professional manner and the games hosted at St. John Fisher College were exciting and proved to be a great experience for players and fans.

Mustangs Take Braves in Overtime
It truly was another classic Canandaigua-Penn Yan contest under the Mustang lights and with a large crowd on hand. After trading goals resulting in a 5-5 tie at halftime, Penn Yan took a 9-7 lead, but let the Braves back in as they scored three in the last quarter to force overtime.

In their fourth one goal game of the season, Canandaigua finally felt the winning side of the equation with an 8-7 win at Penfield. Canandaigua had previously lost in overtime to Churchville-Chili and Penn Yan with a single goal loss to Fairport in regulation. Overall, the 7-4 Braves have had 7 of 11 games decided by two points or less.

Canandaigua Moves Past Saints
Canandaigua has reached the Sectional Championship game 13 times and Churchville-Chili has only reached it once and the Braves demonstrated tonight that they know how to win in Sectionals. The Braves defeated the Saints 14-12 after trailing 0-4 in the first quarter.

CA with One Goal WIn Over Pittsford
The Braves came back big and scored five of the last seven goals to defeat visiting Pittsford 7-6. The Panthers led 4-2 early in the second quarter before the Braves began fighting back. Canandaigua scored four unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters.

The Head Coaches of Section Five met on Sunday afternoon to listen to the presentations of twenty-five players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards,

Tuesday is Championship Day
The top seeded teams will play tomorrow and it looks like anyone can win in each of the Classes. The Day of Champions, sponsored by Canandaigua National Bank and Trust, will be held at Webster Schroeder High School. This year, the Class B game will be held first, starting at 3:45.

Victor Wins Championship
After last year`s heart felt triple overtime loss to the Braves, Victor came to play and defeated Canandaigua 12-8. The Braves led for most of the first quarter. The Blue Devils scored the opening goal of the second quarter to take their first lead of the game and never looked back.

For the fourth time, Section Five selected first and second team All-Section players. The 2014 first team lists sixteen players and includes the ten All-Americans previously announced."It`s always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon. Canandaigua senior attackman, Eric Munn has decided to attend Siena College after graduation next spring.
