There are so many great stories about coaches with long and successful runs, but one story is about a short run with astounding results.

Pittsford came into the "Big Game" ready to avenge their earlier loss and eager to prove that they could be "the top team in the country and they nearly did so

Gananda ruined Wayne`s undefeated season with a one goal win (10-9) on this last Saturday of the regular season. Brockport took a one goal win from Eastridge and Brighton was a 9-6 winner over visiting Lightning.

A full day of games today saw mostly mismatches but a number of interesting games. Penn Yan took a 10-7 game from Fairport and the Lightning won their game against Brockport in overtime.

There were twelve games played on Thursday, and once again, many were mismatches.

The game that everyone has been talking about saw two undefeated teams putting it on the line. The fans were not disappointed in the game that saw a tying goal by Pittsford (14-1) with four seconds left and then an overtime win by Victor (14-0)

As usual, the post-summer tournament / campus visit period brings with it, numerous players who make their college commitments/decisions.

The All Tournament Teams for 2014 were announced on Championship Tuesday. MVP for A, B and C were Justin Kesselring (Fairport), Mike DeMarco (Victor) and Rion Davison (Penn Yan). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

With the start of the NCCA tournament this week, we thought it might be interesting to see how many alumni for Section Five were on teams that made the three divisions in the 2017 tournament.

Victor face-off specialist T.D. Ierlan finished 17/21 (81%) with three of his four losses coming on technical fouls. Of his 16 non-technical wins, he picked up his own ground ball 14 times. Ierlan led the team in ground balls with defenseman Brandon Kunick adding an additional 6 and defenseman Jack Callahan adding four. R-H goalie, 

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2014 season. Senior midfielder Eric Munn (Canandaigua) and defenseman Nick Panara (Pittsford) were named US Lacrosse Academic All Americans. Junior midfielder Kevin Hill (Thomas) along with senior attackmen Trevor Hodgins (Churchville-Chili), Justin Kesselring (Fairport-A/M) and Stephen Quinzi (Pittsford) were selected as US Lacrosse All Americans.

Although the game was tied twice, Fairport never trailed in their 11-7 win over Victor. The Red Raiders scored the opening goal when Justin Kesselring pulled all the way out past the restraining line before driving straight at the cage and putting the shot off-stick past Brennan Mackey in the cage for Victor. 

After last year`s heart felt triple overtime loss to the Braves, Victor came to play and defeated Canandaigua 12-8. The Braves led for most of the first quarter. The Blue Devils scored the opening goal of the second quarter to take their first lead of the game and never looked back.

TD Ierlan took the first face off right to the goal, but was unsuccessful and after a quick trip up and back, sophomore defenseman Jack Callahan gave the ball to sophomore attackman Max Lambert for the first goal of the game.

Senior midfielder Brandon Barker (Pittsford) along with senior attackman Max Spaan (Penfield) and senior goalie Willie Klan (Penfield) selected as US Lacrosse All Americans. Juniors Jared Conners(Pittsford-LSM), T.D. Ierlan (Victor mid/fo) and Jamie Trimboli (Victor - mid) were also named as US Lacrosse All Americans.

Fairport Head Coach Mike Torrelli and Pittsford rising junior midfielderColby Barker were invited to participate in the "Nike Ride" and elite showcase for fifty top players. In its third year it features "the nation’s top lacrosse athletes squaring off during a week of unparalleled competition, training and mentorship. Over the four days they were treated to the best of Nike, learned from guest speakers that included the Thompson brothers and played games near the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

The Victor Signing Ceremony, usually held in the cafeteria had to move to the auditorium this year as the Blue Devils celebrated seventeen student-athletes who will be moving on the play NCAA sports after graduation this spring. Ten boys from the New York State Championship lacrosse team were among the mix.

The Head Coaches of Section Five met recently to listen to the presentations about players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards, are sponsored by US Lacrosse and identify some of the best players from each area of the country.

This is the sixth year for the Section Five All-Section Team. It is an effort by the Lacrosse Committee and the coaches of Section Five to identify some of the top players among the over 1,100 varsity players in the section this year. Nominations for the lists came from Head coaches, administrators and SportsFive personnel. This year 15 players were selected for the first team, 13 players for second team and this year, 12 players on the third team. Our six All Americans automatically make the first team. All players on this list must first be named to their first team All-League teams or be from Independent teams.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2016 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year`s contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Friday, June 17th at Victor High School. The boys` game will start at 7:00 PM after the girls` play at 5:00 PM.

Victor rising junior long stick midfielder Jack Callahan has announced his commitment to Bryant University. The second team All-League defenseman (MC-d2) was also named to the Class B All Tournament team his spring.
