The Gates Chili Spartans have a new Head Coach for the 2019 season, as Cam Gormel moves up from assistant to take over for Jake Johnson who will start working at the youth and modified programs, in a effort to build from the bottom up.

This year, we have replaced the weekly rankings with a poll. About a dozen pollsters who represent all three classes and all four leagues have been supplemented by SportsFive reporters, Section Five officials and parents.

The new varsity season starts next week and for the second year in a row, there has been a large turnover of Head Coaches in Section Five.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle has announced thier first AGR Lacrosse team, with the first Player of the Year honors going to Webster Schroeder attackman Grant Catalino. First year Irondequoit Head Coach, Craig Whipple, who's team won their first Sectional title since 2001, was names the first AGR Coach of the Year.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2007 season. Senior attackman Grant Catalino (Schroeder), goalie Zach Nash (Irondequoit) and midfelder Tom Rynn (Fairport) were selected as USLAcrosse All Americans. Senior attackman, Mike Danylyshyn from Fairport was selected by the Monroe County coaches as the 2007 USLacrosse Academic All American.

There were big wins today for Irondequoit (over Schroeder) and Rush-Henrietta (over Fairport), while Thomas won an OT victory over Eastridge and Penfield used a last quarter push to beat Pittsford. Other winners today included HFL, C-C, Brockport, GC and Brighton.

Twelve games were scheduled for Thursday and among the winners were Irondequoit, Penn Yan, Schroeder, Canandaigua, Livonia, Gates, Churchville and the Thunder. Also winning were Eastridge, Waterloo and Midlakes.

Although a number of games were cancelled or moved, seven games were played on home fields in unusual bright sunshine and warm weather.

Unlike the first game, this time Fairport took control early in the game, ending the first quarter with a 6-2 lead and ending the game at 13-7.

Most teams in Section Five played games on this cool Tuesday night.

Penfield in their second tough game this week beat Fairport in a close one, Pittsford beat Rush-Henrietta in overtime and Schroeder won the bragging rights in Webster on another cool and sunny afternoon. 

We are catching up this week with three players who, over the last two weeks, are worthy of note.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has released the final rosters for the 2015 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game which will be held on Friday, June 12th at Victor High School.
