Olvany's 50th Goal, Spears' Milestone Highlight Action
DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Boys lacrosse action featured milestones at both ends of the state. Canandaigua's Patrick Olvany reached 50 career goals with a four-goal, three-assist performance, but it wasn't enough as JD edged the Braves 11-10 in a back-and-forth game that featured three ties and a late Canandaigua push. Stadium, Haverling's Drew Spears also hit the 50-goal milestone in a 17-1 tournament win over Batavia-Notre Dame, where freshman Mason Rooks added five goals and two assists and Mason Calkins went 17-for-18 at the faceoff dot. Hilton blanked Schroeder 14-0 behind five goals and four assists from Cahlan Smith, and Williamsville East edged Churchville-Chili 7-6 in the day's closest finish.
JD-11 at CANANDAIGUA-10 - JD slipped past Canandaigua 11-10 in a non-league game Wednesday morning at Canandaigua, with the lead changing hands multiple times and three ties along the way. JD scored three goals in under two minutes in the third quarter to pull ahead, and though Canandaigua pulled within one on Ryan McKeegan's goal with eight seconds left, it was not enough.

Canandaigua (0-2), senior attackman Patrick Olvany reached 50 career varsity goals, finishing with four goals and three assists to push his total to 53. Ryan McKeegan added two goals, including the final goal with eight seconds remaining, and Marshall Bolster, AJ Sterman, and Landon Mortier each chipped in one goal. Junior Jake Kingston recorded his first varsity assist. Junior Peyton Fritz went 13-for-23 at the faceoff dot (57%), surpassing 100 career faceoff wins in the process with 108 total.
For JD (1-0), Miles Patchen led with three goals and two assists, and Braeden Baker added three goals. Tate Mullin contributed two goals, while Benjamin Berry, Brody Homer, and Abu Kenneh each added one goal. Lucas Brazell and Sawyer McIntosh each picked up an assist. SCHROEDER-0 at HILTON-14 - Hilton topped Schroeder
Wednesday afternoon in a non-league game at Hilton, scoring three goals in the first quarter and adding six more in the second to build a 9-0 halftime lead. Hilton improved to 3-1 in a series that stands at nine wins apiece all-time.
From the scoring table, Hilton got five goals and four assists from Cahlan Smith, three goals from Gianluca Auriuso, two goals and two assists from Drew Brien, and two goals from Max Bell, who was assisted both times by Tyler Reger. Anthony Mitrano and Jack Palmer each added one goal, and Lucas Grizzanti rounded out the scoring. No statistical report was available from Hilton at post-time.
For Schroeder (0-4), junior John Caricati went 13-for-18 at the faceoff dot (72%). Goalie Ben Cashman stopped four shots for a 50% save percentage in 20 minutes. [BOX SCORE]
HAVERLING-17 at BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME-1 - Haverling topped Batavia-Notre Dame 17-1 in a tournament game Wednesday evening at VanDetta Stadium,
scoring four goals in the first quarter and pulling away from there. Seven different players scored for Haverling, which has now won all six meetings with Batavia-Notre Dame since 2022.
For Haverling (2-2), freshman Mason Rooks led with five goals and two assists, while senior Drew Spears added three goals and two assists, reaching 50 career varsity goals in the process with 52 total. Senior Warren McCormick contributed two goals and two assists. Sophomore Logan Force scored four goals, including his first varsity goal, and sophomore Alex Price also scored his first varsity goal. Freshman Mason Calkins went 17-for-18 at the faceoff dot (94%) and also scored a goal. Senior McLane Stermole stopped three shots for a 75% save percentage in goal.
