HFL Holds Off Hamburg 8-7 and Advance

HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-8 at HAMBURG-7 - Honeoye Falls-Lima kept its postseason run alive with a hard-fought 8-7 victory over Hamburg in sub-regional tournament play Wednesday at Williamsville North. The win moves the Cougars to 13-6 on the season and gives HFL a 4-3 edge in the all-time series with Hamburg.

The game was tight throughout. HFL jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two-and-a-half quarters, but Hamburg clawed back to make it a contest, outscoring the Cougars 7-3 in the fourth quarter alone to turn a comfortable lead into a one-goal nail-biter.
Jackson Coon and Grady Goodberlet each had three goals to pace the offense, with Coon also adding the game's lone assist. Marco Vengoechea chipped in two goals. Sam Jokl was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 14 of 18 draws (78%), and Jason Bennett made 10 saves in goal.

For Hamburg (12-8), Jack McDonald and Cole Losi each scored multiple goals, and the Bulldogs showed grit in their fourth-quarter surge, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
