HFL's Season Ends at Home

JD-16 at HONEOYE FALLS-LIMA-4  - After a very competitive first quarter, Jamesville-Dewitt pulled ahead over the remaining three quarters to defeat Honeoye Falls-Lima 16-4. The Red Rams held the Cougars scoreless for the final 37 minutes of play with a combination of strong defense and limited the offensive opportunities for HFL. JD was led in scoring by Braeden Baker, who finished with 1g-6a. Their goal scoring was spread out with five different players recording three or more points. The stand-out for HFL was definitely junior goalie Jason Bennett. Bennett finished with 22 recorded saves, including a large number of point blank saves after inside feeds by the Red Rams. Offensively, Marco Vengoechea scored three of the four goals with Grady Goodberlet scoring the fourth goal for the Cougars.

In the first quarter, HFL got on the board with the opening goal with an unassisted goal from Vengoechea less than 1 minute into the game. The Red Rams responded with a goal of their own about a minute later. Baker drove from behind the cage and passed the ball off to Sawyer McIntosh after the slide. HFL kept up the pressure with another goal from Vengoechea. Four minutes later, Goodberlet scored his goal with a dodge from behind the cage to give HFL the 3-1 lead with 5:19 remaining on the clock. Baker recorded his second assist off a fast-break feed to Cayden Gallagher, two minutes later. Vengoechea’s third goal came from a drive down the left side of the cage. The first quarter ended with another Red Rams goal. This time it was Miles Patchen assisting Tate Mullin. The Cougars led 4-3 after the first quarter. Over the next three quarters, JD added 3, 4 and then 6 goals, while holding HFL’s offense to only 2 shots on cage. Many of the later goals were scored in unsettled fast-break situations with 5 of the 6 goals in the final quarter coming during transition.

Jamesville-DeWitt moves on to face Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake after they defeated Massena 18-10 earlier in the day. The winner of that game will face the winner of Rye vs. Wantagh back at Hobart on Sunday June 14th for the State Championship.

Scoring for Jamesville-DeWitt were Braeden Baker (1g-6a), Miles Patchen (3g-1a), Sawyer McIntosh (1g-3a), Cayden Gallagher (3g), Tate Mullin (3g), Brody Homer (1g-2a), Benjamin Berry (2g), Caden Parker (1g), Lucas Brazell (1g) and Max King (1a). Goaltending: Ryan Keough 3s/4ga (48 minutes).
