Program Outlook

Penn Yan enters the 2026 season in Class D following a 21–2 campaign that culminated in a New York State championship. The Mustangs combined consistent scoring with a strong defensive profile throughout the year, navigating a demanding postseason path.

Despite graduating five seniors, Penn Yan returns a large and accomplished core, positioning the program to remain among the top teams in Class D.

Coaching Continuity

Brian Hobart returns for his 23rd season as head coach, carrying a career record of 328–114 at Penn Yan. A Penn Yan alumnus, Hobart has overseen the program’s sustained success across multiple eras. His experience and continuity remain central as the Mustangs transition from another accomplished senior class while maintaining established standards.

Roster Composition

Penn Yan graduated five seniors, including contributors at midfield, defense, and goalie. That group included multiple All-Section and All-Tournament honorees. Even with those departures, the Mustangs bring back five rising seniors, 10 juniors, and six sophomores, creating a roster with both depth and varsity experience.

Returning Standouts

Several key contributors return after earning postseason recognition in 2025. Braden Fingar is back after a standout season with 65 goals and 25 assists, earning First Team All-Section and All-Tournament honors, and announcing his college plans with Towson. Tukker Fisher also returns following a 57-goal, 41-assist campaign that earned him Second Team All-Section and All-Tournament recognition. Greyson Hathway returns as well after earning First Team All-Section honors, anchoring the midfield with extensive faceoff experience. This returning trio forms the core of a group that accounted for much of last season’s production. They will be join with junior midfielder Mike Gigliotti who returns for his fourth year on the Varsity with a career 56g-19a record and junior defenseman Carter MacKerchar.

Statistical Overview

In 2025, Penn Yan scored 345 goals while allowing 151, averaging 15.0 goals per game and 6.6 goals against. The Mustangs return 240 goals, representing 70 percent of last season’s total, along with 114 assists, accounting for 65 percent of their assist production. Penn Yan recorded 15 wins by five or more goals and played seven games decided within five goals, including two one-goal wins, reflecting both scoring depth and the ability to manage close contests.
