# 4132  Players of the Week - Group 3

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with Geneva Club Beverages are sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our third group we have a senior and a freshman who had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Avery ValentiZach Tortora - Senior Spencerport Midfielder

Zach Tortora was instrumental in Ranger win against visiting Section IV Horseheads last week. Spencerport won 10-5 and Zach has seven goals and two assists in the win. The four-year Varsity player has 162g-54a, 64 takes, and 193 gbs in his career. He currently leads his team in scoring, points and ground ball production and next year he plans to continue playing at Canisius College.

Head Coach Bill Buttaro says, "Zack has had a tremendous career in a Rangers Uniform, so when performances like Thursday happen, it doesn't surprise me. He works hard and plays with an edge. He wants the ball when the game is on the line, and he is always there to pick up his teammates. He wants to win and leave his stamp on every game. Zack is on the field playing midfield almost every minute of every game; Offense, Defense, Man Up and Man Down. He has definitely left his stamp on this program even before breaking the schools' goal scoring record. And now he is capping off his career by showing our younger players the Ranger Way."

Defensive Player of the Week

Bear WehrheimBear Wehrheim - Freshman Pittsford Goalie

Bear Wehrheim is a freshman goalie returning for his second year as a starter for the Panthers who are currently undefeated due, in part, to his fifty-eight (61%) career saves. Last week he made 8 saves (62%) in the Penfield win and was 86% on twelve saves in the Spencerport win.

Head Coach Andrew Whipple says, “Bear has been our starting goalie since he was in 8th grade. He continues to improve in and out of the goal. We look forward to this season with Bear and the following three.”

Note: Face-off players are considered for both offensive and defensive Players of the Week.
