June 3, 2017 — Section Five representative Victor defeated Section Six representative Hamburg 7-4 in the Western Regional Championship.  The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Joey Pezzimenti with 3g-1a.  Sam Lambert added another 3a.  Each of the four Hamburg goals were scored by a different player.

Victor opened up the scoring with 2 goals in the first 2 minutes.  Pezzimenti scored the opener off a feed from behind by Lambert.  Less than one minute later, Victor scored again.  Andrew Russell scored while cutting to the crease.  Connor Keenan set up behind and waiting for the feed.  He hit him just as he reached the crease.  The Blue Devils held the 2-0 lead into the final six minutes.  The Bulldogs scored their first goal with 5:38 remaining.  Brothers Jason and Brett Chiodo hooked up for the goal.  Jason fed Brett with parallel cuts from the right side of the crease.  The first quarter ended with Victor leading 2-1.

In the second quarter, Victor scored the only goal.  Russell scored his second goal off another feed from behind as he cut to the crease.  This time, Sam Lambert was set up behind for the feed.  Russell made a similar cut to the crease.  Victor continued holding on and led 3-1 after 24 minutes.  Hamburg came out of the half and tied the contest.  The Bulldogs scored back to back goals over the first eight minutes.  Kobe Wright scored off a single drive to the cage from the top of the restraining line.  Four minutes later, J. Chiodo scored off a feed from behind the cage by Gage Schneider.  Schneider grabbed the ball behind the cage after a missed shot by Hamburg and redirected the ball to the crease.  The Blue Devils added one more to re-take the lead with 3:12 remaining.  Lambert fed the ball from behind to Pezzimenti on the right flat.  Victor led 4-3 after 36 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Victor scored 3 and allowed 1.  Mitchell Cain scored the first with an outside shot from dead center at the restraining line.  Hamburg responded with a drive from behind the cage by Jared Milley.  The Blue Devils added two more before the 6 minutes mark.  They spent much of the final six minutes holding the ball on offense without shooting.  In the cage for Victor, Chayse Ierlan finished with 8 saves (67%).  Hamburg goalie, Jake Phillips finished with 6 saves.  Victor moves on to play Vestal at St. John Fisher on Wednesday at 6:30.
