Section V Champion, Victor, played VICTOR-7 at MANHASSET-10 - Manhasset, who had been playing as a Class C Team until recently, won their first Class B Championship Title since 1995 this afternoon with a 10-7 win over Section V’s Victor. The 'Set was back-to-back Champions in 2022 and 2023 in Class C but had not made the Championship game in the last two years. For Victor, this was their 8th time in the Championship game in the last 10 years. They were coming into the match-up looking for their first win since 2019 after losses to South Side and Garden City in their last two visits. The game was close for the majority of the contest before the 'Set were able to score four straight goals with four minutes left in the game to pull ahead. A key factor in the contest was the face-off’s. Manhasset finished 13/20 on the day, including splitting about 50/50 with Victor All-American Eli Ricci before Ricci was forced Victor started off the game strong with Matthew Herendeen scoring less than a minute into the game. Four minutes later the Blue Devils got their second goal with Nathan Terrance threading an inside pass to Ricci in the middle of the defense. The first Indian goal was scored by Philip Palumbo with a dodge into the middle before creating space and firing a side-arm shot into the back of the net. The Blue Devils led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter opened with the third Blue Devil’s goal. Gage Hay drove to the cage and pulled a double team from the defense before dropping the ball off to Jackson Mead. Mead’s goal was the last for the Blue Devils for over 12 minutes, while the 'Set started a four goal streak spanning the rest of the second quarter and into the early third quarter. Freshman Tommy Kasselakis, who finished with a team leading 3g-1a, scored his first goal on an unassisted dodge from the top of the restraining line with 7:25 left in the half. The first tie of the game came at 3-3 with Marco Petruccelli scoring with a drive down the left side of the restraining line. Although victor forced two more ties, they never lead again. The 'Set added one more goal before halftime with Kasselakis finding Tommy Leder open on the crease. Manhasset led 4-3 going into halftime.
The third quarter opened with another Indian goal. Petruccelli scored his second with a mid range shot. Less than thirty seconds later, Victor responded with Lincoln Snyder feeding Colin Wheeler. With one goal for each team in the third, Manhasset held the one goal lead (5-4) going into the final quarter. Victor forced the second tie of the game with Wheeler assisting Herendeen during a man-up attempt. Just over a minute later, Manhasset scored again with an outside shot from Peter Weston on the left side. It took four minutes, but Victor forced their third, and final, tie of the game with an unassisted goal from Hay with 5:09 left in the game. It was an exciting season for the Blue Devils who finished their season with a record on 20-3.
