Looking Back

It was a week filled with milestones, records, and heart-stopping finishes across Section V Ironequoit at Canandaigualacrosse. The most dramatic moment came Saturday at Canandaigua, where Irondequoit mounted an improbable rally — scoring three goals in the final 30 seconds of regulation to force overtime, then winning 9-8 on Hank Velepec's golden goal after trailing by four. On the milestone front, Penfield's Brodie Joyce shattered his school's 20-year scoring record with an eight-goal performance Tuesday, while Bloomfield-Honeoye's Brayden Arber hit 100 career goals Wednesday with a seven-goal explosion backed by Nick Falso's record-setting 32 saves, and Spencerport's Zach Tortora reached both 150 career goals and 200 career points in the same week. Brighton's Teddy Carl scored 12 goals in a 23-1 blowout Saturday and Victor's Eli Ricci went off for five goals at a 73% face-off rate to hold off Penfield.

SATURDAY - Irondequoit's Last-Second Rally Headlines Busy Saturday
Saturday's most dramatic finish came at Canandaigua, where Irondequoit trailed by four goals before scoring three times in the final 30 seconds of regulation to force overtime, then got the winner from Hank Velepec to escape witha 9-8 victory. Elsewhere, it was a big day for milestones, with Brighton's Teddy Carl putting WG at Victorup 12 goals in a 23-1 win over Greece Storm, Spencerport's Zach Tortora reaching 150 career goals, and Victor's Will Simpson recording his 200th career save. Six of the seven teams in action on Saturday posted wins of five goals or more.

FRIDAYHFL Builds Early Lead, Tops Haverling
Honeoye Falls-Lima scored five goals in each of the first three quarters Friday evening to build a commandinglead and go on to a 15-4 non-league win over Haverling. The visiting Cougars kept Haverling scoreless in the third quarter to put the game away and moved to 2-0 on the season. The win extends Honeoye Falls-Lima's series advantage over Haverling to four wins against one dating back to 2016.

THURSDAY Milestones, Streaks and Comebacks Highlight Busy Thursday
It was a busy Thursday evening with eight Pittssford at Thomasgames decided. Irondequoit edged Schroeder 12-11 in a fourth-quarter thriller, Genevarolled past Greece Storm 18-7 behind big nights from Ryland Dunham and Ben Budgar, and East United-Eastridge survived a Gates Chili comeback to win 10-9 on the strength of Brien Walker's four goals. Bloomfield-Honeoye won their game with Brayden Arber recording his 100th career point, Churchville-Chili topped Wayne 10-7 with Cooper Lass leading the way with four goals, and Pittsford used a fast start, including three goals in under two minutes, to pull away from Hilton 15-7. Brighton opened its season with a win over Rush-Henrietta highlighted by seventh grader Red Wolk's first varsity goal and assist, while Victor held off Penfield 11-8 with Eli Ricci's five goals and 73% face-off rate powering the comeback win.

WEDNESDAY - Today's action featured three wins, highlighted WG at Victorby Bloomfield-Honeoye's Brayden Arber reaching 100 career goals with a seven-goal effort in a 14-6 win over Gananda where goalie Nick Falso broke the school record with 32 saves. Haverling's Zach Colegrove netting his 50th career goal in a 12-7 loss to Marcus Whitman.

TUESDAY - There were seven games played today highlighted by Penfield's Brodie Joyce breaking his school's 20-year scoring record with eight goals in a win over Fairport, Brockport's Ryan Miller reaching 101 career goals in a 9-8 win over Gates Chili, and Spencerport's Zach Tortora recording his 200th career point in a win over Schroeder. Other winners included Hilton, Rush-Henrietta, Pittsford (9-8 over Thomas), and HFL.

MONDAY - In a Non-League game. Haverling opened its Ironequoit at Canandaiguaseason with a 14-2 non-league road win over Gananda on Monday. The Blue Devils scored five goals in each of the first two quarters to build a commanding lead, with seven different players finding the net on the night. McLane Stermole handled most of the work in goal for Haverling, stopping four of six shots for a 67% save percentage over 45 minutes.

Looking Ahead

Just aas the new season begins, it's vacation time but there are still twenty-nine games on the schedule. 

On Monday Penn Yan will host Homer, while Fairport travels to Orchard Park and Canisius visits Rush-Henrietta.

On Tuesday features ten games  and among the interesting ones is Pittsford at Irondequoit, Haverling at East United-Eastridge, Wayne at HFL, and Pittsford at ThomasSchroeder at Hilton. Victor and Penfield are on a road trip, playing against well-respected teams.

On Wednesday sees JD at Canandaigua, the Rams and Batavia Notre Dame and Williamsville East at Churchville-Chili.

On Thursday Pittsford takes the bus to West Genesee, McQuaid Jesuit is at Brighton, Irondequoit is at Fairport and Thomas is at Penn Yan although the weather reports are calling for rain all day.

On Friday there are no games scheduled.

On Saturday the week ends with games like Pittsford at Canandaigua, Shenendehowa at Penn Yan, and Schroeder at Wayne.

BLOOMFIELD-HONEOYE-14 at GANANDA-6 - Bloomfield-Honeoye opened its season with a 14-6 tournament win over Gananda led by Brayden Arber's seven-goal, one-assist performance that pushed him to 100 career goals. Looking Back

This week’s lacrosse action delivered thrilling finishes and dominant performances across 48 games. The most exciting matchups saw Bishop Kearney, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo, Pal-Mac, and Baldwinsville all securing dramatic overtime victories, while Victor mounted a late comeback to edge McQuaid Jesuit 11-10.Pittsford added another overtime thriller with a 12-11 win over Fayetteville-Manlius behind Avery Valenti’s seven-goal effort. Meanwhile, several teams showcased their firepower with decisive wins, including Wayne’s commanding 21-11 victory over Newark and JD’s 21-13 triumph over McQuaid Jesuit. The week also saw standout individual performances, such as Domenic Giangreco’s milestone 500 career faceoff wins and Penn Yan’s Teagan Fingar and Gananda’s Nick Falso earning Player of the Week honors. However, weather disruptions left some games suspended or postponed, adding uncertainty as the regular season nears its final stretch

Thursday: Hilton Tops Thomas 10-7
Hilton opened its season with a 10-7 non-league win over Thomas on March 19, fueled by Drew Brien (3g-2a), Cahlan Smith (2g-1a), Tyler Reger (1g-2a), and Anthony Mitrano (2g), with junior Michael Charella scoring his first varsity goal; sophomore goalie Brendan Maxwell stopped 15 of 22 shots (68%). Thomas was led by Lucas Estelle (3g-2a) and Blake Jipson (2g), with junior Logan Muisus also netting his first varsity goal, as goalie Joshua Jobson stopped 10 of 20 shots (50%) in the loss.

Saturday: Pal-Mac and Spencerport Take Opening Wins
Pal-Mac and Spencerport each opened their seasons with non-league wins on Saturday. Pal-Mac defeated Churchville-Chili 13-1, led by Max Hill (4g-3a), Jackson Dennie (4g-1a), Brandon Dennie (1g-3a), Reid Diehl (2g-2a), and Branden Thomas (2g), with sophomore Joey Hagen earning his first varsity assist. Junior goalie Drew Ikewood stopped 11 of 12 shots (92%), while Churchville-Chili's goal came from Jack Sloan with an assist from Jaxson Leonard. In the other game, Spencerport rolled past Grand Island (Section VI) 18-4, paced by Gavin Brown (5g-3a), Zach Tortora (4g), Tyler Wentworth (3g-1a), and Mason Endres (4a), with eighth grader Maddox Harding scoring his first varsity goal; Grand Island got two goals from Nik Korte and one each from Dominic Nucci and Dominic Hanel.

Looking Ahead

In the first full week of games in the new season, there are twenty-night games on the schedule as twenty-two teams start their 2026 campaign. 

Monday kicks off with Haverling at Gananda.

Tuesday has HFL at C-C, Pittsford at Thomas, Schroeder at Spencerport and Fairport at Penfield among the interesting lineups.

Wednesday has three games scheduled: B-H at Gananda, Haverling at Marcus Whitman and St. Francis at Aquinas for their annual contest. It will be the debut of new Head Coach Joe Urlacher at Marcus Whitman.

Thursday will see nine games played. Among the interesting contests are Wayne at C-C, Fairport at Spencerport, R-H at Brighton, where new R-H Head Coach Sam Hillmon will take the helm. Penfield is at Victor and Hilton is at Pittsford.

On Friday, AQ is at Thomas and HFL is at Haverling.

Saturday will see seven games including West Genesee at Victor and Irondequoit at Canandaigua.

Midlakes defeated Gananda 14-4 in the Section 5 Quarterfinals with contributions from seven different goal scorers. Leading the way was Carter Casper with four goals, while Brendan Baldwin reached his 50th goal of the season. Midlakes goalie Stuart Quku posted a 78% save percentage. Gananda's offense saw early goals from Jase Smith and Brody Daciw, while goalie Nick Falso recorded 20 saves. Midlakes extended its winning streak to five games and will advance to the semifinals.

Gananda opened its lacrosse season with a solid win against Gates Chili, claiming a 20-11 victory in a non-league game held at R Mann Elementary on Friday evening. Leading the charge for Gananda was sophomore Jase Smith, who contributed eleven goals and five assists, supported by Brody Daciw with five goals and three assists, and Mason Groh with two goals and five assists. Goalie Nick Falso played a steady game, saving fifty-four percent of shots faced (thirteen saves on eleven goals allowed).
