BLaxFive.NET is rolling out its most significant redesign since launch, a cleaner, faster, mobile-first experience built to keep pace with a fan base that's grown far beyond anyone's early expectations. The site launched in 2000, and for nearly a quarter century it has stood as the definitive source for boys lacrosse in Section V. What started as a way to give local programs and players some well-deserved attention has grown into the site fans, coaches, and players themselves check first for scores, stats, and stories.

The numbers reflect that long run: nearly 10,000 individual player pages, giving generations of Section V athletes a permanent, searchable record of their careers, and over 4,200 stories published, covering everything from regular-season recaps to sectional title runs. Last season alone the site saw more than 1,000,000 visits from more than 68,000 unique visitors — numbers that place it among the most-read independent sports coverage in the region, boys' or girls'.

The redesign focuses on the experience readers and players actually use most: a modernized, mobile-first layout built for fans checking scores and stats from the sideline, streamlined player profiles that make it easier to browse a career's worth of stats and stories in one place, faster navigation between team pages, standings, and a story archive that now spans thousands of games, and a refreshed visual identity that carries the same BLaxFive spirit into a cleaner, more current design.

Twenty-five years after its launch, BLaxFive.NET isn't slowing down. The new design is meant to carry the site into its next chapter of covering Section V boys lacrosse, one player page and one story at a time.

Long-time coach at Irondequoit High School, Ernie Lisi died peacefully on Friday, July 10th at Maplewood Nursing Home. 

Ernie Lisi then took over for Irondequoit founder Vern Babcock in 1961 and compiled a career record of 211-22 when he finished in 1977 and turned the reins over to John Pratt (1978-2005). In his first season he won 10 straight games and then continued with thirty more straight wins until his first loss (to Lafayette) in 1965. 

At Geneva High School, Lisi was captain of both the football and track teams. He was also the senior class President in 1950. After four years in the Marine Corps which included a tour of Korea, he moved on to Hobart College where he was a standout in football and as a midfielder in lacrosse. He once played against Jim Brown, playing for Syracuse. Hobart coach Babe Kraus was said to have told Lisi, “Let him run if he gets the ball. There is no way to stop him without injuring yourself.”

His final coaching stint was for the University of Rochester, where he was Head Coach from 1979-1981.

Over his sixteen years as Head Coach at Irondequoit, he earned many accolades and honors including: 22 Championships/titles including two Section V Championships, 13 High School All-Americans, 3 times Coach of the Year by USLCA and Man of the Year by NILL (1984). He received many honors over the years, including induction into the Rochester Chapter US Lacrosse Hall of Fame (1992), the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame (1992) and the Hobart College Hall of Fame (2014).

Sportsfive Media has been the leading scholastic website for Section V lacrosse for more than twenty-five years. With over one million page views a year, there are over 4,200 stories on the boys site, and just over 9,900 player profiles. Twenty-seven of the fifty-one donors were people who have made donations in more than one year which means that only two dozen new supporters helped this year.

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) provides officials for all of the the boys lacrosse teams in Section V and recently handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class.

Selected were the Greece Storm, Webster Schroeder, Honeoye Falls-Lima, and  Bloomfield-Honeoye.

It was another exciting season for Section V lacrosse with 916 players on the final rosters, 308 regular season games played and 79 league games determined the league championships. Honeoye Falls-Lima (C) was the only top seed to win their championship. In the other three classes, the second-seeded teams won championships; Penfield in Class A, Victor in Class B and Penn Yan in Class D. The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2026 first team lists sixteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "After that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players. With the six first spots taken, there were only ten more places on the first team."

DAY IN REVIEW: SUNDAY - The final day of the year took place today as each of the four classes crowned their championships. Section V Champion, Victor, playedthe first game of the day, where Manhasset (Section VIII) won the Class B contest. In Class C, Rye (Section I) beat Jamesville-DeWitt (Section III) 15-9. In Class D, Cold Spring Harbor defeated Marcellus (section III) 11-9 and in the last game of the day at Hobart and William Smith College, Massapequa (Section VIII) beat West Genesee (Section III), 19-9.

VICTOR-17 at NISKAYUNA-9 - Victor punched its ticket to the Class B NYS Championship with a dominant 17-9 semifinal victory over Niskayuna Thursday at SUNY Cortland, winning despite a two-hour lightning delay that halted play at the end of the third quarter. The Blue Devils led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 5-1 first-quarter lead and never relinquishing control, extending their winning streak to twelve games and improving to 20-2.

*+NISKAYUNA at VICTOR — The last Section V team standing takes on one of Section II's most storied programs Thursday afternoon, as the Victor Blue Devils (20-2) travel to SUNY Cortland for a 4:00 p.m. Class B semifinal showdown against the Niskayuna Silver Warriors (17-3).

The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

West Genesee pulled away from Penfield 14-10 behind Liam Kelly's four goals and three assists, ending the Patriots' season at 15-5.

Marcellus dominated from the opening whistle, building a 6-1 first-quarter lead and never looking back in a 19-11 victory that ended Penn Yan's season at 17-4.

Penfield rolled to an 18-6 win over Kenmore behind 11 goal-scorers and a dominant faceoff performance, with the victory also marking head coach John Schembri's 200th career win.

Williamsville North will host a second straight night of New York State boys lacrosse tournament action on Thursday, with two more first-round matchups on tap as Section V programs again make the trip west to face Section VI opponents.

The evening opens at 5 p.m. with a Class D clash between Penn Yan and East Aurora. The Mustangs are one of the most decorated programs in New York state history, arriving as the reigning NYS Class D champions and 28-time Section V titlists with a 16-3 record and a coaching staff that has now won 344 games at the school. Penn Yan dismantled top-seeded Palmyra-Macedon 17-5 in the Section V final, never trailing after the opening goal, and carries a roster headlined by Braden Fingar, a Towson-bound midfielder with 85 points on the season, and faceoff specialist Greyson Hathway, who has piled up 178 ground balls.

East Aurora counters with a matching 16-3 record and the Section VI Class D title, won convincingly with a 24-9 final over Eden/North Collins. The Blue Devils have shown they can compete cross-section; their win over HF-L earlier this season is a credential — but Penn Yan beat that same HF-L team 15-5, and Hamburg 15-7, by margins that suggest a different level of dominance. Penn Yan is a clear favorite, though East Aurora's tournament experience and home-area crowd give them a chance to make it interesting.

The nightcap at 7:30 brings the marquee matchup of the week — Class A, Section V champion Penfield against Section VI champion Kenmore. The Patriots finished 14-4 and claimed their eighth Section V title, capped by a 13-3 dismantling of McQuaid in the final. Head coach John Schembri's squad is built around Brodie Joyce, the Section V MVP with 84 points, an All-Section goalie in Mason Schembri, a dominant faceoff specialist in Colin Miller who reached 500 career faceoff wins this season and US Lacrosse All-American AJ Theodorakakos on defense. Kenmore enters at 11-3 with one of the most explosive offenses in Class A anywhere in New York, led by Connor Whitney's 111 points, Bryan Lansing's 86, and freshman Nolan McPhee's 68.

If Kenmore's three-headed attack gets rolling, they are capable of beating anyone. But Penfield's defense, their faceoff dominance, and their tournament pedigree make them the favorite heading into Thursday night.

Winners from both games advance to Saturday's regional round, with Section V victors hosting at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.

Williamsville North High School will host a pair of New York State boys lacrosse tournament first-round games on Wednesday evening, with Section V programs traveling west to face Buffalo-area opponents in the first step to the New York State Championships.

The action gets underway at 5 p.m. with a Class C matchup between Honeoye Falls-Lima and Hamburg. The Cougars arrive as four-time Section V champions and the defending western regional entrant, carrying a 10-6 record built against one of the tougher schedules in the state, including a 16-12 victory over Brighton and a 7-4 win over Hamburg back on April 18.

Hamburg, the Section VI Class C champion at 11-7 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league play, won the sectional title and brings a potent offense capable of big scoring nights. The Bulldogs have been held to four goals in both previous meetings with HF-L this year and last, so breaking through against the Cougars' defense remains their primary challenge. HF-L is favored based on the head-to-head history and a superior cross-section resume, but Hamburg's sectional championship and explosive offense make this worth watching.

The nightcap at 7:30 p.m. brings the biggest game of the week, Class B, with Section V champion Victor taking on Section VI champion Orchard Park. The Blue Devils carry an 18-2 record and the second-highest ranking in New York, with both losses coming by a single goal to elite programs.

Orchard Park finished 17-1, with its only defeat a 7-11 loss to Penfield in April, the same Patriot team that Victor beat 11-8 in the regular season. The Quakers boast what may be among the best defenses in the field, surrendering fewer than five goals per game against a schedule that included McQuaid, Irondequoit, and Fairport. Victor holds the analytical edge on the strength of their schedule, rankings, and postseason form, but Orchard Park is a legitimate threat. 

Victor ended Pittsford's undefeated season with a 14-12 win in the Section V Class B final, claiming the program's 11th sectional title.

Penfield defended its Section V Class A championship with a 13-3 win over McQuaid Jesuit, claiming the program's eighth sectional title.

Penn Yan scored the opening goal and never trailed in their 17-5 win over top seeded Pal-Mac in Section V Championship.

HFL continued their Sectional Title streak with the program’s 4th straight Championship (the longest current streak in Section Five) with a 16-6 win over Geneva. The Cougars scored eight unanswered goals, holding the Panthers scoreless until about halfway through the second quarter.

The wait is over. After months of league play, rivalries renewed, and records broken, Section V crowns its champions tomorrow at St. John Fisher University. Four games. Four titles. One unforgettable day of lacrosse.

Gabe Robards scored four goals and 11 different players found the net Monday night as Penfield rolled past Churchville-Chili 17-2, with first career varsity goals from Trent Smith and Medin Sinanovic among the highlights, while Joey Allen scored his first career varsity goal for the Saints.

Senior goalie McLane Stermole stopped 21 shots Monday night as Haverling rallied from six goals down after the first quarter to edge East United-Eastridge 10-9, with Warren McCormick's four goals and Mason Rooks' three goals and an assist leading the comeback.

Charley Barlette, Brynn Graves, and Jayleigh Esposito each had two goals, and Lola Vogt made eight saves for Hilton.

Teagan Hudak and Baylee Vilord combined for nine goals to lead Pal-Mac.

Peyton Rothfuss (4g/3a) recorded the 400th draw control of her career as the Patriots extended their winning streak to eight games. Elinor Meyer stopped 17 shots for Mercy.

Zoey Overslaugh (8g/1a) recorded the 200th draw control of her varsity career as the Screaming Eagles claimed their fifth win. Ella Michaels had five goals for Gananda-Marion.

Alison Marquart had three goals and seven assists to lead Geneva. Kinsley Bree finished with six goals and an assist for Waterloo/Mynderse/Romulus.

Preston Jackson scored seven goals Thursday night to lead Rush-Henrietta to a 10-7 non-league win

Waterloo earned its first win of the season Tuesday evening with a 20-2 decision at Gananda.

Wayne won 8-3 at Mynderse-Romulus on Tuesday evening with Coleman reaching 50 career goals on a three-goal performance

Penn Yan won 19-1 at Haverling Tuesday evening behind four goals and two assists from Sprague, and four goals from Ditzell.

Canandaigua rolled past Gates Chili on Tuesday evening with 13 different scorers.

Bloomfield-Honeoye fell 13-10 to Sweet Home on Saturday afternoon despite Arber reaching 117 career goals with four goals and two assists.

Saturday featured a string of career milestones: Haverling's McLane Stermole recorded his 800th career save in a loss to LAG, where Owen Schweitzer posted eight goals and Will Schweitzer reached 50 career goals

Fairport picked up a Monroe County D-1 win over Greece Storm on Friday evening.

Friday's biggest story was Thomas ending Brighton's unbeaten season with a 12-7 Monroe County D-2 win.

Schroeder picked up its first win of the season with a 14-1 non-league victory at Wayne on Saturday morning.

Greece Storm picked up its first win of the season with an 18-10 non-league victory at home on Saturday.

Saturday's action was defined by career milestones, with Newark's Sam Underhill posting nine goals to reach 200 for his career,

Haverling won 17-1 at VanDetta Stadium on Wednesday evening, with Rooks posting five goals and two assists, Spears reaching 50 career goals, and first varsity goals from Force and Price.

The Pride wasted no time Thursday evening, scoring seven goals in the first quarter and never looking back in a 17-2 non-league win over Batavia-Notre Dame.

It was a busy Thursday evening with eight games decided. Irondequoit edged Schroeder 12-11 in a fourth-quarter thriller

Haverling opened its season with a 14-2 non-league road win over Gananda on Monday.

Spencerport opened its season with an 18-4 non-league win over Grand Island (Section VI) on Saturday, at Grand Island Senior High School. The Rangers scored eight goals in the first quarter and never looked back, adding five more in the second to take a 13-2 lead at halftime.

Batavia-Notre Dame enters the 2026 season in Class C following a rebuilding year in 2025. The team finished 1–15 while relying heavily on a roster that saw significant turnover and limited returning experience.

Waterloo enters the 2026 season in Class D following a rebuilding year in 2025. The teamfinished 1–14, but the roster composition points toward growth, with a large portion of the lineup returning and a sizable group of underclassmen gaining varsity experience. 

Schroeder enters the 2026 season following a 5-12 campaign and returns just over half of its offensive production.The Warriors graduated six seniors, including midfielders Parker Brown, Garrett Callahan, and Garrett Conger, long-stick midfielder Ross Champlin, defender Nate Jones, and attackman Brennan Robinson. 

Pittsford enters the 2026 season following a strong 13-4 campaign and returns asubstantial portion of its offensive production.

Churchville-Chili begins the 2026 season aiming to grow from a 6–11 finish in 2025. With six seniors graduated, the Saints turn to a roster with nine rising seniors, five juniors, and five sophomores.

Fairport enters the 2026 season following an 8–8 campaign in 2025 that wasdefined by close games and defensive consistency. The Red Raiders played in eleven contests decided within five goals, including three one goal games.

Pal-Mac enters the 2026 season in Class D after a 17–1 campaign in 2025. The Red Raiders combined consistent scoring with strong defensive results throughout the year and advanced to the sectional final.

Gananda enters the 2026 season in Class D following a 4–13 record in 2025. The team experienced significant roster turnover, graduating eight seniors and working with a smallreturning upperclass group. 

Haverling enters the 2026 season in Class D after a 5–12 campaign in 2025. The team showed the ability to compete in stretches, with several games decided within five goals, while continuing to work through roster turnover and development.

Mynderse-Romulus enters the 2026 season in Class D following an 8–10 record in 2025. The Blue Devils experienced a year marked by swings, with several games played within a five-goal margin.

Newark enters the 2026 season in Class D after a 6–11 finish in 2025. The Reds showed flashes of competitiveness throughout the year, playing five games decided within five goals. With most of last season’s scoring returning and a relatively small senior class lost to graduation, Newark begins the season with continuity on offense as it looks to improve overall consistency.

Marcus Whitman enters the 2026 season in Class D after a 4–13 finish in 2025. While the record reflects a challenging year, the Wildcats showed competitiveness with seven games decided within five goals.

Honeoye Falls-Lima enters the 2026 season in Class C after posting a 16–5 record in 2025. The Cougars balanced strong regular-season results with an extended postseason run, while navigating a schedule that included both league and non-league competition.

Midlakes enters the 2026 season in Class D following a strong 14–4 campaign in 2025. The Eagles combined consistent scoring with a solid defensive profile, advancing into sectional play and competing deep into the postseason. 

Penn Yan enters the 2026 season in Class D following a 21–2 campaign that culminated in a New York State championship. The Mustangs combined consistent scoring with a strong defensive profile throughout the year, navigating a demanding postseason path.

Wayne enters the 2026 season in Class C coming off an 8–10 record a year ago. The Eagles navigated a schedule that included a mix of close contests and learning opportunities, finishing with seven games decided within five goals.

East United-Eastridge enters the 2026 season as a Class A program looking to build stability after a challenging 2025 campaign. The team finished 3–13 a year ago, graduating a large senior class while relying heavily on underclassmen.

Spencerport enters the 2026 season in Class B after posting an 11–7 record a year ago. The Rangers showed balance throughout the season, mixing decisive wins with a number of close contests, and advanced into sectional play. 

Livonia‑Avon‑Geneseo enters the 2026 season looking to build on the lessons of a 6–11 campaign in 2025. The team experienced a mix of results, with four wins by more than five goals and six games decided within five.

McQuaid Jesuit enters the 2026 season after an 11–7 campaign in 2025 that featured steady scoring, strong performances in close games, and another deep postseason run. 

Victor enters the 2026 season following a 14-5 campaign and returns a substantial portion of its production despite graduating one of the largest senior classes in Section V.

Geneva enters the 2026 season following a strong 13–5 campaign that showed both balance and consistency. 

Gates Chili enters the 2026 season following a 5-10 campaign and returns a majority of its offensive production. The Spartans graduated three seniors, including midfielder/faceoff specialist Michael Alley, defender Shawn Henderson, and midfielder Bennett Miley. 

Thomas enters the 2026 season following a 7-10 campaign and returns just over half of its offensive production. 

The program graduated 10 seniors, but even with those departures, Greece Storm retains 56% of its goals and 60% of its assists from last season. 

Canandaigua begins the 2026 season following a highly successful 19–3 campaign in 2025, one defined by strong scoring balance, tight defensive play, and deep postseason success culminating in a state finals appearance.

Brockport enters the 2026 season aiming to build on a 6–10 campaign from 2025, one in which the team showed moments of competitive strength while navigating a challenging schedule. With eight seniors graduated, the Blue Devils turn to a roster led by three rising seniors, seven juniors, and seven sophomores.

Irondequoit enters the 2026 season following a 12-7 campaign and returns a substantial portion of its offensive production.

Rush-Henrietta enters the 2026 season following a 7-11 campaign and returns a large share of its offensive production. The program graduated 11 seniors, including attackmen  including attackmen Justin Bonanza, Jackson Koppers.

Penfield enters the 2026 season following a 13_8 campaign and returns one of the largest and most productive cores in Section V. The Patriots graduated eight seniors, including defenders Braydon Albro, Noah Banister, and Casey Henderson, along with offensive contributors such as Michael Moxley,Tommy Obstarczyk, and Bryce Perry.

Hilton enters the 2026 season following a 12_5 campaign and returns a significant portion of its offensive and defensive production. The Cadets graduated 11 seniors, a group that included contributors across every position. 

Bloomfield_Honeoye enters the 2026 season following a strong 13–5 campaign in 2025. The team demonstrated consistency with twelve wins by more than five goals and two contests decided within five. 

Aquinas enters the 2026 season in the midst of significant transition following an 8–9 campaign in 2025. 

Brighton enters the 2026 season following a strong 13–5 performance in 2025, a year highlighted by eight decisive wins and several competitive matchups against top regional opponents. 

Bishop Kearney will not field a varsity boys lacrosse team for the 2026 season, Section V Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon confirmed after receiving formal notice from BK Athletic Director Jamal Martin. The decision comes as the program faces a steep drop in player interest and roster availability.e relaunch efforts, leaving the program’s long-term status uncertain.

The Greater Rochester Lacrosse held their thirty-first Hall of Fame dinner Friday night at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor.

On Friday, November 14th, Greater Rochester Lacrosse will install the 2025 class. The event will take place at the Ravenwood Golf Club (929 Lynaugh Road, Victor, NY 14564) with a social hour beginning at 5:00 pm and awards at 7:00pm.

Penn Yan secured a 17-10 win against Ogdensburg Free Academy, pulling away in the fourth quarter. 

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - [UPDATED] Three NYS semifinal games were played today, with Canandaigua securing a strong 17-11 win over CBA, powered by Mike Belles' six-goal performance. Penn Yan emerged victorious against Ogdensburg Free Academy with a 17-10 win. West Genesee continued their undefeated streak by defeating Penfield 16-6 in the NYS Semifinal.

Canandaigua defeated CBA 17-11 in a non-league game at SUNY Cortland, building an early lead and maintaining control throughout. Mike Belles scored 6 goals for Canandaigua, supported by Ryan Bremer with 4 and Drew Williamee with 2 goals and 4 assists. CBA’s Jack Ludington led his team with 6 goals and an assist. Canandaigua’s goalie Quentin Shedrick made 10 saves while allowing 11 goals, while CBA’s Drew Britton had 16 saves and allowed 17 goals. This game marks the first meeting between the two teams and The Grey Wolves will play Garden City (Section VIII) in the Finals at Hobart and William Smith College on Saturday. 

The 2022 Section V Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section V Championship games. The winners were Mitchell Monte from Fairport, Anthony (A.J.) Theodorakakos from Penfield and Drew Williamee from Canandaigua.

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) provides officials for all of the the boys lacrosse teams in Section V and recently handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class. The award is given to a team that exemplifies sportsmanship at the coaches’ level, the players level, and the fans level.  Officials vote after every game by the officials at the game.

JD claimed a 16-5 victory over HFL in their non-league matchup at CNS. Despite HFL's early lead, JD maintained offensive pressure, with Lucas Patchen scoring five goals and Ryan Babikan contributing four. HFL saw production from Goodberlet and Vengoechea with two goals each, and Coon added another. In goal, Jason Bennett made 13 saves, surpassing 300 career saves. This win marks JD’s third straight against HFL.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - In a tightly contested non-league battle, Penfield edged out Orchard Park 12-10, fueled by Jake Maurer’s five-goal performance and a crucial early five-goal run. Mason Schembri’s 14 saves proved vital in preserving the victory and extending Penfield’s winning streak to six games. Meanwhile, three other teams secured comfortable victories, with Canandaigua cruising past Lake Shore 15-6, Jamesville-DeWitt overpowering HFL 16-5, and Penn Yan methodically dispatching Marcellus 13-8.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Two decisive victories highlighted today’s matchups as HFL powered past Hamburg 11-4, extending their winning streak to five games behind standout performances from Marco Vengoechea and Cash Arena. Meanwhile, Penn Yan delivered a commanding 19-8 win over Akron, fueled by stellar offensive contributions from Braden and Teagan Fingar alongside Tukker Fisher. Coach Brian Hobart notched his 325th career victory, leading Penn Yan into the next round. In total, two games were played, shaping the path for upcoming quarterfinal clashes.

Penn Yan earned a 19-8 victory over Akron in the Class D NYS play-in game behind strong offensive performances from Braden Fingar, Teagan Fingar, and Tukker Fisher. Akron’s Charles Rebmann III led his team with three goals and an assist. Penn Yan goalie Will Thompson recorded eight saves for a 57% save percentage, while freshman Greyson Hathway won 23 of 29 faceoffs. The win marked coach Brian Hobart’s 325th career victory at Penn Yan who will now face Marcellus in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Penfield secured their first Section V title since 2018 with an 11-9 victory over defending NYS champion McQuaid Jesuit. Tournament MVP Brodie Joyce (6g-2a) and Jake Maurer (2g-4a) led the charge, while McQuaid Jesuit’s fierce third-quarter rally briefly brought them within a goal. Despite the late push, Penfield’s defense held strong to seal the win. The Patriots now advance to the NYS Tournament to face Orchard Park. In total, several games were played today, with Penfield’s triumph standing out among the most competitive matchups.

Canandaigua pulled off a dramatic fourth-quarter rally to dethrone two-time defending champion Victor, securing an 11-10 victory in the Sectional Finals. Despite trailing for most of the game, the Braves exploded with four unanswered goals in the final frame to take the lead, led by Senior Mike Belles (4g), who earned Class B All Tournament MVP honors. Victor defeated Pittsford 12-7 to advance to the Class B Finals. Matthew Herendeen led Victor with three goals and three assists, while Kyle Seger contributed three goals and one assist. Victor controlled the game after a tied first quarter, scoring five unanswered goals in the second and maintaining their lead. Pittsford’s Lewis Grant was the only Panther with multiple points, finishing with one goal and one assist. Victor will face top-seeded Canandaigua on June 3rd at Hobart.

Canandaigua won 12-11 in overtime against Irondequoit in the Class B semifinals. Drew Williamee led with three goals and two assists, including the game-winner, while Patrick Olvany and Jack Stanney each scored three times. Junior goalie Quentin Shedrick entered late in the third quarter and made eight saves, shutting out Irondequoit in the fourth. Cooper Moore led Irondequoit with six goals. After trailing 11-8 heading into the fourth, Canandaigua scored three times to force overtime, where Williamee sealed the victory. Canandaigua will play second-seeded Victor in the final on June 2nd on Tuesday.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - In a nail-biting Class B semifinal matchup, Canandaigua edged out Irondequoit 12-11 in overtime, with Drew Williamee delivering the game-winning goal as part of his three-goal, two-assist performance. After trailing 11-8 heading into the fourth, Canandaigua rallied with three late goals to force overtime, where Williamee sealed the victory.

Bloomfield-Honeoye won the Section 5 semifinal against Midlakes with a 12-11 victory, capped off by Brennan Thomas’s winning goal with five seconds left. Tyler Bruder led the team with three goals, while John Blair assisted on four scores. Goalie Ethan Stoddard finished with a 54% save rate. The team advances to the Class D championship on Monday against Penn Yan.

Penn Yan defeated Mynderse-Romulus 19-4 in the Section 5 semifinal, with nine players contributing to the scoring effort. Teagan and Braden Fingar, Tukker Fisher, and Miles Ditzell led the offensive charge. Penn Yan's defense held strong, with solid performances from goalkeepers Jaxon Jensen and Wilson Oliva. The team will play Bloomfield-Honeoye for the Class D championship on Monday.

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Six games were played today, with Bloomfield-Honeoye’s thrilling 12-11 win over Midlakes standing out as the closest battle. Brennan Thomas sealed the victory with a game-winning goal just five seconds before the final whistle. Meanwhile, McQuaid Jesuit, Penfield, Penn Yan, Pal-Mac, and HFL secured decisive wins, solidifying their spots in their respective championship matchups. With the stage set for the finals, these teams are ready for the final showdown.

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with Geneva Club Beverages are sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season. In our nineth group we have three juniors who had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Penfield defeated East United-Eastridge nineteen to zero in the Section V Quarter Final. Fourteen players scored, with Brodie Joyce leading with three goals and three assists. Goalie Mason Schembri recorded four saves in twenty-two minutes, and Nate Roche added one save in twelve minutes. Colin Miller reached three hundred career faceoff wins with nine victories in the game.

Penn Yan won 19-2 against Haverling in the Section 5 Quarter Final, with seven players contributing to the offense. Teagan Fingar led with five goals and two assists, and Colt Walters scored four times. The team's defense was strong, with Jaxon Jensen and Will Thompson combining for seven saves. Haverling’s Zach Colegrove and Gavin Price each scored once, and McLane Stermole made 22 saves. Penn Yan will play Mynderse-Romulus in the semifinal round.

Canandaigua secured a 20-12 victory over Aquinas in the Section 5 quarterfinals, led by senior attackman Drew Williamee’s five-goal performance, which marked his 100th career goal. Ryan Bremer added six goals, while Aquinas’ Jake Guggino countered with six goals of his own. Canandaigua controlled the game with a five-goal run and strong fourth-quarter play, moving to a 15-2 record in the postseason.

Rush-Henrietta earned a 15-5 victory over Greece Storm in the Section V quarterfinals. Andrew Coleman led Rush-Henrietta with four goals, while Greece Storm’s James Maccallini contributed two goals and an assist. Rush-Henrietta maintained control throughout the game, supported by goaltender Daniel Schmitz’s 64% save rate.

Pal-Mac won its Section 5 Quarter Final matchup against Batavia-Notre Dame with a final score of twenty-four to two. Jon Smith led Batavia-Notre Dame in scoring with two goals, while Gavynn Trippany and Aiden Robins each had an assist. Batavia-Notre Dame’s goalies, Branden Flanagan and James Rachow, combined for seven saves. Pal-Mac continues its undefeated season, while Batavia-Notre Dame finishes its season with one win.

Mynderse-Romulus edged Bishop Kearney 15-14 in a back-and-forth Section 5 Quarter Final matchup. Griffin Hilimire’s 10-goal performance led Mynderse-Romulus, while James Scantleburry contributed five goals and four assists for Bishop Kearney. Freshman goalie Ethan Cole made 17 saves, surpassing 100 career saves with a 53% save rate. Bishop Kearney's late rally fell short as Mynderse-Romulus moved on in the playoffs where the will play Penn Yan in the semifinals.

Midlakes defeated Gananda 14-4 in the Section 5 Quarterfinals with contributions from seven different goal scorers. Leading the way was Carter Casper with four goals, while Brendan Baldwin reached his 50th goal of the season. Midlakes goalie Stuart Quku posted a 78% save percentage. Gananda's offense saw early goals from Jase Smith and Brody Daciw, while goalie Nick Falso recorded 20 saves. Midlakes extended its winning streak to five games and will advance to the semifinals.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Fourteen games packed today's slate, with two close contests keeping fans on edge. Mynderse-Romulus secured a thrilling 15-14 victory over Bishop Kearney, fueled by Griffin Hilimire’s incredible 10-goal performance. Irondequoit pulled off the only upset of the day, edging Hilton in overtime 6-5, thanks to Colin Giudice’s game-winner. Pittsford’s 7-2 victory over Brighton marked a special milestone, as head coach Andrew Whipple secured his 250th career win.

There were thirty-four games played last week. There were sixty-six out of section games scheduled and 66 have been played. Section V teams won 41 and lost 25 (62% wins). There was one undefeated team for the regular season: Pal-Mac (14-0).

Haverling won their non-league matchup against Waterloo 17-3 on Saturday. Seven players scored for Haverling, with Maclain Wright leading the way with five goals and two assists. Junior goalie McLane Stermole recorded a 63% save percentage. Waterloo did not submit a report, and Haverling will play Penn Yan in the Class D quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Brighton earned a 15-5 win over Churchville-Chili in a non-league game, with eight players contributing to the scoring. Leading the charge were Miles McGuire, Gavin Parks, and Tim Tourangeau, each with 3 goals. Logan Serve made 7 saves with a 78% save percentage. Churchville-Chili’s Brayden Hoak scored 2 goals, and sophomore Aiden DeYager recorded his first Varsity goal. Kaiden Leiston made 5 saves with a 56% save percentage. Brighton extended their winning streak to 10 games and will face third-seeded Pittsford in the quarterfinals.

Irondequoit secured a 16-2 victory over Gates Chili, with Kieran Stenzel and Cooper Moore leading the offense. Eight players contributed goals, including first varsity tallies from Hunter Weisbeck and Liam West. Goalie Sven Habitzreuther recorded a perfect save percentage in his half in the cage. Gates Chili’s Michael Alley scored both of his team’s goals, and goalie Demar Williams finished with ten saves. Irondequoit will face Hilton in the upcoming quarterfinals.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - All four games played today were decisive victories, with winning margins exceeding three goals and with the higher seeded teams winning. Irondequoit showcased a commanding performance in their 16-2 win over Gates Chili, led by Kieran Stenzel and Cooper Moore, while goalie Sven Habitzreuther held a perfect save percentage. 

Penfield won 18-7 against Churchville-Chili, with nine players contributing to the scoring effort. Tyler Pavone led with four goals, while Aiden Alexander scored his first varsity points. Churchville-Chili’s offense was led by Brayden Hoak with three goals.

Newark took a 21-9 win over Haverling in a non-league game, led by senior Sam Underhill with nine goals and two assists. Sophomore Evan Shulla scored seven goals, reaching his 50th career goal. Senior goalie Carter Bumpus finished with ten saves on 19 shots for a 53% save rate. Newark will play Geneva next week in the Class C tournament, while Haverling hosts Waterloo in Class D Round 1 on Saturday.

Fairport won 12-8 against Penn Yan in a non-league game, earning the second seed in the Class A tournament. Mitchell Monte led Fairport with four goals and one assist, while Penn Yan’s Teagan Fingar scored twice, reaching 201 career goals. Both teams had strong contributions from multiple players. Fairport goalie Luke Ryan recorded a 53% save rate. Penn Yan, the top seed in Class D, will face the winner of Haverling vs. Waterloo in its upcoming playoff matchup.

Bloomfield-Honeoye earned a 19-1 victory over Batavia-Notre Dame in a non-league matchup. Eleven players scored for the home team, with Brayden Arber leading with four goals and one assist. Goalie Ethan Stoddard made eight saves for an 89 percent save rate. Batavia-Notre Dame’s lone goal was scored by Jon Smith, while goalie Branden Flanagan reached his 400th career save.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Six games were played today, with two coming down to the wire. Pittsford edged out Canandaigua in a tense 11-10 battle, fueled by Grant Lewis’ four-goal effort and key saves by Bear Wehrheim. Meanwhile, Livonia-Avon-Geneseo survived a back-and-forth showdown against Marcus Whitman, pulling away late for a 15-10 victory. Elsewhere, Spencerport, Gates Chili, and Bloomfield-Honeoye secured decisive wins, with standout performances from Zach Tortora, Jayden Maryjanowski, and Brayden Arber, respectively. 

Brighton defeated Fairport 10-8 in a close non-league matchup. Gavin Parks led Brighton with six goals, while Mitchell Monte and Ryan Priddy were Fairport’s top contributors. Brighton finished strong in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to secure the win. Logan Serve made ten saves for Brighton, posting a 56% save rate. Fairport looks ahead to their next game against Penn Yan.

HFL defeated Rush-Henrietta 15-13 in a non-league contest, with Grady Goodberlet contributing five goals and five assists. The home team led early with six first-quarter goals, holding off Rush-Henrietta’s second-half rally. Jason Bennett made 10 saves, and Quinn Kailbourne won his only faceoff for HFL.

Spencerport secured a 15-10 victory over Schroeder in a non-league matchup. Zach Tortora led Spencerport with five goals and two assists, while Mason Endres contributed three goals and five assists. Schroeder’s Garrett Conger reached his 50th career goal, scoring four times with an assist. Despite a fourth-quarter surge from Schroeder, Spencerport maintained control throughout the match. Spencerport will face Brockport on Tuesday.

Irondequoit won 13-9 against McQuaid Jesuit. Moore led Irondequoit with eight goals, while Gianforti and Giangreco each had two goals and one assist for McQuaid Jesuit. Habitzreuther recorded a 64% save percentage in goal for Irondequoit, and Rawleigh finished with a 50% save percentage for McQuaid Jesuit.

Pal-Mac remained undefeated this season with a 19-2 win over Mynderse-Romulus. Fleming scored his first varsity goal, while Hilimire also added one for Mynderse-Romulus. Pal-Mac’s strong first half paved the way for their fifteenth consecutive win. No game details were provided by Pal-Mac.

Hilton and Victor battled in a close non-league game, with Victor winning 8-6. Hilton led at halftime but Victor’s four-goal third quarter turned the game. Leading scorers included Hilton’s Auriuso (two goals) and Victor’s Mead (three goals). Faceoff specialist Ricci controlled possession for Victor, and Hilton’s Maxwell recorded 20 saves.

Geneva controlled their matchup against Newark with steady offensive production in a 21-6 win. Ryland Dunham led Geneva with eight goals and three assists, supported by Max Heieck with three goals and six assists. Newark's Sam Underhill and Evan Shulla each scored three times, but the team struggled in the second half. Geneva’s Brent Williams made nine saves with a 64% save percentage, while Alex Pesante won twenty-four face-offs. Geneva will face Waterloo next, while Newark will take on Haverling.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Eleven games took place today, with four delivering edge-of-your-seat action. Victor rallied past Hilton 8-6, overturning a halftime deficit with a dominant third quarter. HFL outlasted Rush-Henrietta 15-13 in a back-and-forth contest, fueled by Grady Goodberlet’s explosive five-goal, five-assist performance. Brighton stunned Fairport 10-8, closing strong with three unanswered goals in the final quarter. Elsewhere, dominant showings saw teams like Geneva, Pal-Mac, and Penn Yan secure decisive wins, rounding out an action-packed day on the field.

Newark defeated Batavia-Notre Dame 16-3, led by Sam Underhill’s seven goals and three assists. Tristan Harris and Evan Shulla contributed to the scoring, while sophomore Miguel Olivera Plain recorded his first Varsity goal. Newark’s goalie, Carter Bumpus, posted a 75% save rate. Batavia-Notre Dame’s Harold Mellander, Trey Rodriguez, and Gavynn Trippany each scored, with goalie Branden Flanagan saving 64% of shots. Newark will face Geneva next.

Niskayuna secured a narrow 9-8 victory over Victor in a non-league matchup, with Dillon Lichtleading the scoring for Niskayuna with four goals. Victor saw contributions from multiple players, including Ricci, Saeger, and Mead, each scoring twice. The fourth quarter featured key goals from both teams, but Niskayuna held on for the win. Victor, now 11-4, will face Hilton on Tuesday.

Midlakes earned a fifteen-to-eight win over Gananda, with key contributions from Walker Landschoot (four goals, four assists) and Carter Casper (three goals, two assists). Gananda initially built an eight-goal lead, led by Brody Daciw and Jase Smith, but Midlakes responded with a strong offensive effort. Goalies Stuart Quku and Nick Falso posted save rates above fifty percent. Midlakes will face Haverling on Tuesday, while Gananda plays them Monday.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Saturday’s lacrosse action featured 10 games, with seven decided by narrow margins. Baldwinsville pulled off a dramatic 9-8 overtime victory against Canandaigua, handing the previously unbeaten team its first loss of the season. Niskayuna also edged Victor 9-8 in a tight non-league matchup. 

Thomas won its MC-D2 league matchup against Schroeder 14-1, scoring steadily across all four quarters. Schroeder's only goal came from Jonny May in the second quarter. Midfielder John Caricati won nine face-offs, bringing his career total to 208. In goal, Van Bolton recorded a 52% save percentage. Thomas will face McQuaid Jesuit next, while Schroeder takes on Spencerport.

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Seven games were played today, with one providing nail-biting drama. Pittsford edged out Fayetteville-Manlius in an overtime thriller, securing a 12-11 victory behind Avery Valenti’s seven-goal showcase and Jahyden Maiorani’s clutch game-winner. Meanwhile, Marcus Whitman, Mynderse-Romulus, Irondequoit, Thomas, Brighton, and Newark dominated their respective matchups, displaying offensive firepower and defensive prowess across the board.

Pal-Mac defeated Geneva 12-11 in overtime after a back-and-forth contest. Geneva’s top scorers included Ryland Dunham and Max Heieck with three goals and one assist each, while Brent Williams recorded 17 saves with a 59% save percentage. Pal-Mac forced overtime with a last-second goal and secured the win with Jackson Dennie’s seventh goal of the night. Geneva will host Newark on May 20, and Pal-Mac will take on Mynderse-Romulus the same day.

Wayne defeated Newark 21-11, securing its 18th consecutive win in the series. Shane Coleman (5 goals, 4 assists) and Mason Michel (5 goals, 2 assists) led Wayne’s offense, while Evan Shulla (5 goals, 2 assists) and Sam Underhill (5 goals, 1 assist) paced Newark. Seven players scored for Wayne, including sophomore Cody Crandell with his first varsity goal. Goalkeeper Gavin Hamel recorded 9 saves on 11 goals. Newark will play Bishop Kearney next, while Wayne prepares to face Bloomfield-Honeoye.

Livonia-Avon-Geneseo secured a 14-13 overtime victory against Mynderse-Romulus behind six goals from Max McEnerney and the game-winning shot by freshman Will Schweitzer. Henry Walters added four goals and two assists, while goalie Colton Rose recorded 25 saves with a 66% save rate. Mynderse-Romulus kept the game close, with Griffin Hilimire scoring seven goals and three assists.

Hilton secured a 13-11 win over Spencerport in a non-league contest, led by Braydon Pike’s four goals and two assists. Spencerport’s top performers included Zachary Ajavananda and Zach Tortora, each with three goals and two assists. Hilton’s Drew O’Buck controlled the face-offs, winning 21 of 26. In goal, Spencerport’s Zach Miceli posted an impressive 92% save rate over 24 minutes. Spencerport will next host Greece Storm, while Hilton will take on Victor in their upcoming match.

Victor staged a late comeback to defeat McQuaid Jesuit 11-10 after trailing for most of the game. JP Gianforti led McQuaid Jesuit with six goals, while Kyle Saeger paced Victor with four goals and one assist. Victor scored five goals in the fourth quarter, with Eli Ricci delivering the game-winner. McQuaid Jesuit's goalie, Jack Rawleigh, posted sixteen saves at 59%, while Victor's Will Simpson recorded ten saves at 50%. Victor and McQuaid Jesuit move on to their next matchups this Saturday.

Brighton earned a 17-3 victory over Hamburg in a non-league game, led by Gavin Parks with six goals and Miles McGuire with four goals and two assists. Strong goaltending from Logan Serve and Phil Stapf helped secure the win, while senior Henry Werzinger won 15 of 22 face-offs. The victory extended Brighton's winning streak to seven games ahead of their next game at Auburn.

Victor mounted a dramatic comeback, scoring five goals in the final quarter to secure an 11-10 win over McQuaid Jesuit. 

Brockport took control early and maintained their lead in a 12-9 win over Gates Chili in their league matchup. Ryan Miller led Brockport with five goals and one assist, while goalkeeper James Newton recorded 20 saves with a 69% save percentage. Gates Chili's Callaway Phommachanh scored three goals and added an assist, with goalkeeper Gianni Salandy making 18 saves at a 60% save percentage.

Pittsford (10-3) defeated Aquinas (4-7) in a 12-6 non-league matchup, with Cole and Brady Goetz leading the scoring for the winning team. Aquinas saw contributions from Tano Auriuso, Noah Olbrich, and Jake Guggino, among others. Despite a late scoring push, Aquinas could not overcome the early deficit. Goalie Jake Gibson recorded 15 saves in the effort.

Bloomfield-Honeoye earned an 18-8 victory over Newark, with Cody Whittaker scoring five goals and John Blair contributing three goals and six assists. Whittaker also won 22 faceoffs with a 79 percent success rate. Newark’s Sam Underhill led his team with three goals, reaching his 150th career goal. In goal, Bloomfield-Honeoye’s senior Ethan Stoddard made nine saves and became the all-time saves leader, while Newark’s goalie Carter Bumpus recorded eight. Bloomfield-Honeoye moves to 9-2 and will face Midlakes next, while Newark, now 3-7, will host Wayne.

Pal-Mac remained undefeated with a 17-4 victory over Livonia-Avon-Geneseo. Leading scorers for Livonia-Avon-Geneseo included Max McEnerney with two goals, Colin Molinari with one, and Henry Walters with a goal and an assist. Goalie Colton Rose reached his 200th save milestone, finishing with a 51% save rate. Livonia-Avon-Geneseo now prepares to host Mynderse-Romulus, while Pal-Mac looks ahead to its matchup against Geneva.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - With eight games played today, the spotlight was on two close battles. Wayne edged out Geneva 12-9 with a dominant third quarter, fueled by Mason Michel’s four-goal effort. Meanwhile, Mynderse-Romulus pulled away in the second half to secure a 14-8 victory over Marcus Whitman, with Griffin Hilimire leading the charge with six goals. Elsewhere, teams secured convincing wins, with Irondequoit, Pal-Mac, Midlakes, Bloomfield-Honeoye, and Pittsford all dominating their matchups. A reported game between Dryden and Waterloo remained unreported at post time.

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - Monday’s action featured five games, with Bishop Kearney and Haverling delivering the most thrilling matchup in a 10-9 overtime battle, decided by Dom D’Eletto’s game-winning goal. Haverling’s Gavin Price contributed five assists, while goalie McLane Stermole recorded an impressive 23 saves. Elsewhere, Mynderse-Romulus pulled away late to secure a 12-9 victory over Newark, Thomas dominated Greece Storm 14-1, Schroeder handled Churchville-Chili 12-4, and Brockport cruised past Batavia-Notre Dame 15-1.

Schroeder secured a 12-4 win over Churchville-Chili, with Jonny May leading the team with four goals and Brennan Robinson contributing three goals and one assist. Churchville-Chili's scoring came solely from Jaxon Leonard, who netted four goals. Schroeder goalies Van Bolton and Ben Cashman had strong performances, with Bolton stopping six shots at a 75% save rate and Cashman adding four saves at 67%. Churchville-Chili's goalie, Dominic Marra, reached his 100th career save in the game.

Bishop Kearney secured a 10-9 overtime win over Haverling, with Dom D'Eletto scoring the game-winning goal. Gavin Price led Haverling with two goals and five assists, while Drew Spears added four goals. In goal, McLane Stermole saved 23 shots at a 70% rate, and Ethan Cole stopped 12 shots with a 57% save percentage for Bishop Kearney. The teams now turn their focus to upcoming matchups.

In our seventh group we have a senior, and a junior who had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Bloomfield-Honeoye defeated Medina 12-5 in a non-league game on Saturday. The visiting team controlled the match from the start, scoring five goals in the first quarter and adding seven more before Medina put up five in the final period. Leading the offense, Brayden Arber scored four goals with one assist, while John Blair had two goals and four assists. Senior midfielder Cody Whittaker won twelve faceoffs, reaching his five hundred and eighth career win. In goal, Ethan Stoddard recorded ten saves with two goals allowed, and Brayden Butler added five saves with three goals allowed. Bloomfield-Honeoye will host Newark on May 13th.

HFL earned a 20-4 win against Midlakes in their non-league game on May 10. Grady Goodberlet led HFL with six goals and two assists, while goalie Jason Bennett finished with seven saves and a strong 88% save rate. Midlakes saw goals from Nick Curran, Kaden Guillaume, and Walker Landschoot, with Carter Casper adding a goal and assist. HFL will host East Aurora next, while Midlakes will travel to Gananda.

Gananda earned a twenty-one to two victory over Batavia-Notre Dame in a non-league game, with Jase Smith and Mason Groh each scoring five goals. Nine players contributed to the scoring, and junior goalie Nick Falso recorded an eighty-three percent save rate. Batavia-Notre Dame saw goals from Jeremiah Childs and Harold Mellander. Gananda will next face Midlakes, and Batavia-Notre Dame will travel to East United-Eastridge.

Canandaigua earned its 13th straight win by defeating Orchard Park 11-7. Patrick Olvany scored four goals, while Ryan Bremer contributed three. Canandaigua had a strong third quarter, scoring five goals in under two minutes. Evan Scibelli recorded eight saves with a 53% save rate. Orchard Park responded early but couldn’t keep pace in the second half. Canandaigua will host Penfield next.

Hilton defeated Pittsford 11-10 in a close league game, with strong performances from Gianluca Auriuso and Nicholas Presutti. Pittsford's Charlie Ryan led his team with two goals and two assists, while freshman goalie Brendan Maxwell reached his 100th save. Hilton’s Drew O’Buck won his 500th faceoff, helping his team secure the win.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Saturday saw 14 games played, with three matchups delivering nail-biting finishes. Hilton edged out Pittsford 11-10 in a league battle, propelled by standout performances from Gianluca Auriuso and Nicholas Presutti, while Pittsford’s Charlie Ryan contributed two goals and two assists. Irondequoit secured a hard-fought 7-5 win over Fairport, with Kieran Stenzel leading the way offensively. Watkins Glen rounded out the close contests with a 9-7 victory over Waterloo. Meanwhile, the remaining 11 games showcased dominant performances, including Canandaigua extending their winning streak, Gananda putting on a scoring clinic, and Schroeder rallying for a comeback victory. 

Pal-Mac continued its undefeated season with a win over Gananda on Friday. Gananda scored three goals, with Mason Groh striking early, Jase Smith scoring in the third quarter, and Cameron Richards adding one in the fourth. Nick Falso recorded 17 saves for Gananda. With the win, Pal-Mac improved to 12-0, while Gananda fell to 2-8.

Tully defeated Mynderse-Romulus 20-10 in a non-league matchup Friday evening. Griffin Hilimire led Mynderse-Romulus with seven goals, supported by Jack Brady and Hunter Kurdziolek. Mynderse-Romulus put up a strong effort, particularly in the second quarter, but Tully maintained a steady scoring pace. Mynderse-Romulus will travel to Newark for their next game on Monday.

Canandaigua defeated Hilton 13-7, keeping its undefeated season intact. Ryan Bremer led Canandaigua with four goals, while Drew Williamee added three. Hilton’s Drew Brien had two goals and three assists. Canandaigua outscored Hilton 6-1 in the final quarter, with goalie Evan Scibelli recording 10 saves and a 59% save percentage. Hilton’s Brendan Maxwell made 13 saves at 50%. Both teams will play again on May Saturday.

Newark secured a 15-12 win against Gananda in a non-league matchup. Newark's Evan Shulla led with seven goals and one assist, while Sam Underhill contributed five goals and two assists. Gananda’s top scorers were Jase Smith and Brody Daciw, both with four goals and one assist. Gananda's goalie Nick Falso recorded 15 saves with a 50% save rate. Newark’s record improves to 3-4, while Gananda moves to 2-7.

Bishop Kearney secured a strong victory over Batavia-Notre Dame in a non-league matchup at VanDetta Stadium. Kearney set the tone early with nine goals in the first quarter and carried their momentum through the rest of the game, finishing with a final score of 14-2. Junior James Scantleburry led the offensive charge with three goals and six assists, while Dom Slevin also contributed three goals. Trever Jensen and Jeremy Lowe added two goals each, and Dub Eunice recorded his first Varsity goal. Freshman goalie Ethan Cole made 14 saves on 16 shots, achieving an 88% save percentage across 48 minutes.

Newark earned a 14-11 win over Marcus Whitman, led by Sam Underhill’s nine goals, making him the all-time leading scorer in Newark High School history. Newark pulled ahead in the final quarter after a strong start by Marcus Whitman. Ayden Clark led Marcus Whitman with five goals and two assists, while goaltender Carter Bumpus recorded a 56% save percentage for Newark. Both teams will play again on Thursday.

Midlakes secured a 19-6 league victory over Mynderse-Romulus, led by five-goal performances from Walker Landschoot and Theodore Altman. Contributions came from multiple players, including Nate Lathrop and Brendan Baldwin, while goalie Stuart Quku recorded a 73% save rate. Jack Brady scored three goals for Mynderse-Romulus, with additional support from Griffin Hilimire and Hunter Kurdziolek. Both teams will be in action again on Thursday.

Pittsford secured a 14-2 win over Schroeder in a non-league matchup at Sutherland, extending its winning streak to seventeen games in the series. Seven players contributed to Pittsford's scoring, with Avery Valenti leading with four goals. Schroeder’s Garrett Conger scored both of his team’s goals, assisted once by Parker Brown. Pittsford goaltender Pierce Madigan recorded four saves with a 67% save rate, while Bear Wehrheim stopped the only shot he faced. Pittsford will face Victor next, while Schroeder prepares to host Livonia-Avon-Geneseo.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Brighton edged out Thomas 13-11 in the day’s closest contest, while standout performances and career milestones defined the action across the 15 games played. Sam Underhill became Newark’s all-time leading scorer with a nine-goal performance, Jake Olbrich hit 100 career assists for Aquinas, and Geneva extended their winning streak to five. Victor, Penfield, and Fairport secured key wins, while Canandaigua remained undefeated with a dominant 19-0 victory. 

In our fifth group we have three seniors who have had noteworthy performances in the last week. We honored Miles McGuire (Brighton), Jayden Mandarano (Spencerport), and Sven Habitzreuther (Irondequoit).

Penn Yan secured a victory over Mynderse-Romulus with a strong first half and contributions from nine different scorers. Teagan Fingar led with five goals and one assist, while Griffin Hilimire was the top scorer for Mynderse-Romulus with two goals and one assist. Penn Yan controlled possession, with freshman Greyson Hathway winning seventeen faceoffs, and sophomore Jaxon Jensen recording a 78% save rate. Penn Yan moves to ten wins and one loss, with Mynderse-Romulus set to face Midlakes in their next game.

Marcus Whitman defeated Waterloo 12-5 in a league contest, with five goals from Ayden Clark and contributions from several teammates. Junior Tariku Blueye reached 100 career goals, and sophomore Blake Strait netted his first varsity goal. Goalie Tyler Speers made four saves, and Logan Storms won three of five faceoffs. Marcus Whitman will host Newark next, while Waterloo will travel to Batavia-Notre Dame.

Midlakes secured a 14-1 non-league victory over Brockport on Saturday. James Sprague led the scoring with four goals and two assists, while Carter Casper added three goals and three assists. Junior goalkeeper Stuart Quku recorded nine saves and allowed one goal, finishing with a 90% save percentage. Midlakes extended its winning streak to five, improving to 7-1, while Brockport moved to 2-7. Midlakes will host Geneva next, and Brockport will face Canandaigua.

Penn Yan defeated Lake Shore 14-5 in a non-league game, with junior midfielder Braden Fingar scoring six goals and reaching his 100th career goal. Tukker Fisher added one goal and four assists, marking his 50th career assist. Freshman Greyson Hathway won 18 of 23 face-offs, while senior goalie Will Thompson recorded 13 saves with a 72% save rate.

McQuaid Jesuit earned a 6-2 win over St. Joseph's, with junior Domenic Giangreco leading the scoring with three goals. Senior goalie Jack Rawleigh made eight saves and posted an 80% save rate. The win marks the team’s fifth consecutive victory against St. Joseph's. McQuaid Jesuit will host Rush-Henrietta on Thursday.

Grand Island edged out Schroeder, securing a 10-8 victory behind strong performances from Cody Preston and Van Bolton in goal. JD held off Victor for a hard-fought 9-7 win, maintaining control despite a late push from Victor’s offense. Meanwhile, Wayne narrowly defeated Mynderse-Romulus 14-13 in an FL-D1 league battle, with standout scoring from Tas Strickland and a clutch performance by eighth-grade goalie Gavin Hamel. The remaining matchups saw dominant victories, including McQuaid Jesuit extending their streak against St. Joseph’s, Penn Yan celebrating milestone goals, and HFL powering through with a commanding 14-2 win. 

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - Four games were played today, with Spencerport edging out Fairport 7-6 in overtime in the night's closest contest. Jayden Mandarano’s clutch goal sealed the win after a late-game rally, while standout performances from Ajavananda and Monte kept the match competitive. Elsewhere, Canandaigua dominated Gates Chili 19-3 behind Ryan Bremer’s four-goal effort, Brighton bested Corning 17-7, and Hilton controlled the second half to secure a 14-5 victory over Aquinas. 

Penn Yan won its non-league game against Waterloo 19-0, with twelve players contributing to the offense. John Holly led with three goals and one assist. Goalies Jaxon Jensen and Will Thompson combined for three saves with no goals allowed. Penn Yan will play at Lake Shore next. Waterloo will face Marcus Whitman.

Spencerport defeated Gates Chili 17-6 in a league game, led by five goals each from Zachary Ajavananda and Mason Endres. Jayden Mandarano added one goal and six assists, while Demar Williams of Gates Chili tallied ten saves.

Fairport defeated Rush-Henrietta 14-2 in an MC-D1 league game. Mitchell Monte led Fairport with five goals and one assist, while Jack Gosiewski added two goals and one assist. Fairport's Luke Ryan made one save in 36 minutes for a perfect save rate, and Luke Temple added two saves. For Rush-Henrietta, Jackson Koppers scored and assisted, and Cole Flannery scored. Goalie Daniel Schmitz had 17 saves for a 55% save rate. Fairport now stands at 5-4, preparing to face Spencerport next.

Victor outperformed Thomas with a 14-2 victory in Wednesday's MC-D2 league game. Colin Wheeler led the offense for Victor with four goals, while Brody Secker and Matthew Herendeen added significant contributions. Nine different Victor players scored in the game, and freshman Eli Ricci excelled at faceoffs with 88% success. Thomas saw limited offense, with goals from Jake Polizzi and Lucas Nuccotelli. Victor goalie Will Simpson maintained a solid 67% save rate, helping Victor improve to 7-2 this season.

Canandaigua, led by Mike Belles and Ryan Bremer, secured a 16-5 win over HFL, improving to 9-0. Grady Goodberlet and Quinn Kailbourne paced HFL’s offense, while goalies Evan Scibelli (80%) and Jason Bennett (59%) were key defensive figures. Canandaigua’s balanced attack and a 10-goal scoring run sealed the victory.

Brighton triumphed over Schroeder with an eleven-three win in an MC-D2 league game. Leading Brighton’s offense was Miles McGuire with four goals and Tim Tourangeau with two goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Logan Serve delivered a sixty-seven percent save rate, while Schroeder’s Van Bolton made eleven saves, reaching one hundred career saves. Zack Rossignol achieved his first Varsity goal for Brighton. Schroeder’s John Caricati excelled at faceoffs, but Brighton secured the win.

Pal-Mac extended their winning streak against Midlakes, earning a 19-6 victory and preserving their undefeated season at 7-0. Midlakes’ Nate Lathrop contributed four goals and two assists, while Brendan Baldwin added one goal and two assists. Despite Stuart Quku’s effort in goal with twelve saves, the hosts fell short. Midlakes and Pal-Mac prepare for their next league games on Thursday evening. There was no report from Pal-Mac at post-time.

Jacob Warner excelled in face-offs with a 60% win rate, and McLane Stermole stood strong in goal with an 86% save percentage. Waterloo managed just one goal, and their team stats remain unavailable.

Penfield delivered a team-driven victory over East United-Eastridge, winning 19-3 in a non-league game. Fourteen players scored for Penfield, with Brodie Joyce leading in assists and Trevor Serafin making seven saves with a 70% save rate. Canandaigua edged out Spencerport 13-12 in a hard-fought battle, marking Coach Deven York’s 100th career win. Irondequoit narrowly topped Thomas 9-8 behind Kieran Stenzel’s hat trick. The remaining games saw several dominant performances, including Pittsford extending their undefeated run, McQuaid Jesuit’s commanding win, and Pal-Mac keeping their perfect record intact at 7-0.

There were nineteen games played last week. There are seventy-three out of section games scheduled and 30 have been played. Section V teams have won 20 and lost 10 (67%). There are six undefeated teams at this point: Bloomfield-Honeoye (5-0), Canandaigua (6-0), Midlakes (2-0), Pal-Mac (6-0), Penn Yan (6-0), Pittsford (6-0).

Penn Yan maintained their undefeated record with an 8-3 victory over Westhill in a non-league lacrosse game. Teagan Fingar led Penn Yan with four goals and two assists, while goalie Will Thompson recorded sixteen saves at an eighty-four percent save rate. Brendan Gilhooley scored two goals for Westhill. Freshman Greyson Hathway contributed to Penn Yan's success with a fifty-three percent face-off win rate. Penn Yan will host Brighton next week.

Victor defeated Shaker 10-4 (Section II) in an out of section game, with standout performances from Jackson Mead and Kyle Saeger, both tallying three goals and one assist, and strong goaltending from Will Simpson, who saved nine of twelve shots for a 75% save rate. Shaker's scorers included Michael Hennessey, Jeremy See, Alessio Clermont, and William Cunningham, but a dominant third quarter by Victor sealed the win. Victor now holds a 4-1 record and is set to host Iona Preparatory next.

Irondequoit defeated Baldwinsville 9-8 in overtime, with Cooper Moore scoring the decisive goal in the overtime period. Doug Velepec's three goals and Sven Habitzreuther's nineteen saves anchored Irondequoit's win. Baldwinsville's Zachary Bice and Brady Garcia each scored twice, while Preston Cusimano excelled with an 86% faceoff rate.

Pittsford secured an 18-0 victory over Greece Storm in an MC-D1 league game, with ten different players scoring and strong defensive performances from goalies Pierce Madigan and Bear Wehrheim. Ben Zombek led the offense with three goals and one assist, while Cole Goetz added four goals and three assists. Pittsford remains undefeated this season and will play Fayetteville-Manlius next.

Brighton secured a win over Wayne with balanced scoring across eleven players, led by Gavin Parks and Austin Flaum with four goals each. Logan Serve provided solid goalkeeping with four saves and one goal allowed, while Brighton dominated face-offs with strong performances from Henry Werzinger and Gavin Hayslip. Brighton moves to 3-2 and will face Pittsford next, while Wayne will play Marcus Whitman.

Horseheads defeated Rush-Henrietta 12-4 in a non-league lacrosse game. Leading scorers for Rush-Henrietta were Parker Zugnoni with two goals and Ronin Walker with two assists. Daniel Schmitz managed a 56% save rate with fifteen saves in goal.

Penn Yan earned its fourth win of the season with a strong offensive effort, defeating Cortland 19-3 in a non-league matchup. Nine players scored for Penn Yan, with Teagan Fingar leading with four goals and two assists. Cortland saw goals from McGrath, Armstrong, and Harrington. Penn Yan’s goalkeepers maintained a 50% save rate, while Hathway won 15 of 17 faceoffs. Penn Yan is set to play Thomas on Thursday.

Penfield earned an 8-4 victory over Thomas in a non-league lacrosse game, marking their first win of the season. Nine players scored for HFL, including Ezra Gathercole and Ben Segar with their first Varsity goals. Wayne’s junior midfielder Ben Dodds also scored his first Varsity goal. In goal, HFL’s Jason Bennett had nine saves and a ninety percent save rate, contributing to the team’s strong showing.

Canandaigua defeated Corning 13-9 in a non-league game, with leading performances by Ryan Bremer (four goals, two assists) and goalie Evan Scibelli. Archbishop Stepinac defeated Irondequoit 12-3 in a non-league lacrosse matchup. Stepinac's offense was led by Cole Mayclim, Chris Keating, and Nash Mayclim, while goalie Cole Feshal had ten saves. The Midlakes Screaming Eagles triumphed over the Wayne Eagles 20-9 in Thursday's FL-D1 league game. Both teams look ahead to their next matchups against West Genesee.

Geneva, led by Ryland Dunham with six goals and Max Heieck with five goals and four assists, defeated Gates Chili 19-4 in a non-league lacrosse game. Mynderse-Romulus earned their first win of the season, defeating Waterloo 14-5 in Friday’s FL-D1 league game. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), in partnership with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), has approved a one-year experimental shot clock rule for the 2025 lacrosse season. This rule will be implemented at both the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels across all NYS public high schools.

As the McQuaid Jesuit Boys Lacrosse team prepares to defend their New York State Class A title, excitement fills the air. After a stellar 2024 season where they achieved a remarkable 20-2 record, the Knights are looking to continue their dominance. With Head Coach Alex Gray at the helm, entering his second season, the team aims to continue last year's success.

As the Rush-Henrietta Boys Lacrosse team prepares for the 2025 season, there's a palpable sense of anticipation. Head Coach Ted Winslow, entering his second season at the helm, is determined to improve upon last year's 5-12 record. This will be an exciting year in Section V, with some new features and, at the end of the year, the New York State Championships which will be held at Hobart on June 14th, 2025.

*+The Greater Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse held their thirtith Hall of Fame dinner Friday night at the Harro East Ballroom in Rochester.

Teammates, friends and family along with many members of the Hall of Fame, gathered to induct five individuals, and one team into the Greater Rochester Lacrosse Hall of Fame Class of 2024. They were welcomed by Chapter Past President Scott Schwind.

On Friday, November 8th, the Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse will install the 2024 class. The event will take place at the Harro East Ballroom (155 N Chestnut St, Rochester, NY 14604) with a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm and dinner at 7:00pm. The class includes Courteny Gibbons, Peter Milliman, Brice Queener, Steve Trombley and the 1996 Nazareth mens team.

The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players.The 2024 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "after that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players."

There were thirty-four teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled eight games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 1,149 players on the final rosters, up 256 players from 2023. Penfield and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-eight players and Haverling and Pal-Mac with the smallest with nineteen. 

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) provides officials for all of the the boys lacrosse teams in Section V and recently handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class. The award is given to a team that exemplifies sportsmanship at the coaches’ level, the players level, and the fans level.  Officials vote after every game by the officials at the game. Peter McCabe, newly elected President, made presentations for GVLOA.

The Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse recently announced the14th Annual Herb Fitch and Chris Barnes Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 15th at Victor High School. 

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Section V went two for four in the Western Semifinals as McQuaid beat Liverpool 10-5 and Victor beat Vestal 17-6. Aquinas lost to a strong team from Marcellus and Jamesville-DeWitt defeated HFL.

*+The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

*+Victor defeated Irondequoit 9-6 tonight in the Class B Championship to win their tenth Title and second in a row.  The game was close for the first half, before the Blue Devils pulled ahead in the second half and held off a small push by Irondequoit in the middle of the fourth.

*+McQuaid Jesuit scored the final four goals of the game spanning the entire second half to secure their first ever Section Five Title.  The Black Knights have been to the Finals three times in program history (including last year's 9-5 loss vs. Pittsford), but this was their first time taking home the Title.

AQUINAS-14 at PENN YAN-11 -Aquinas defeated Penn Yan to gain their second Section V Title in program history with a 14-11 win over the Mustangs. The last time that the Li`l Irish won the title was also against Penn Yan back in 2010; in that game they snapped a 12 year winning streak for the Mustangs. This year they broke another 12 year winning streak.

*+DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Both the Class C and D Championships were planned for Finger Lakes Community College today, but thunder and lightning storms caused great delays and in the in although the Class C game was won by Honeoye Falls-Lima, the Class D championship was moved to Sunday at 10:30 AM at FLCC.

Victor defeated Spencerport 10-4 to advance to the Championship game on Tuesday.  The Blue Devils scored the first four goals of the game and never looked back.  Although the Rangers pressed hard to finish the third, the Blue Devils were able to score the final three goals and secure the win.  Leading in scoring for the Blue was senior Jack Herendeen with 2g-4a.  Junior Brody Secker finished with 2g-2a and both Jackson Mead and Aiden Clinkscales finished with 2g.  For the Rangers Zach Tortoara finished with 2g to lead his team.  In the cage for Spencerport, senior Taylor Kaye finished with 13 saves.

Irondequoit came out strong in their 10-6 win over Canandaigua.  The Eagles scored five goals in the opening quarter to take the early lead.  Leading that charge was Steven Clinkscales, who finished with 4g-1a.  The game was plagued with multiple penalties and both teams had changes at man-up.  Irondequoit finished with 4 man-up goals; while Canandaigua was only able to capitalize one single man-up goal.  

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - The semifinals for both Classes A and B were played tonight and it will be Victor vs Irondequoit in the Class B Championship and McQuaid vs Penfield in the Class A Championship on Tuesday.

*+Pal-Mac stepped up in the fourth quarter to defeat Livonia-Avon 4-3.  In a game that was plagued with penalties, the teams both had multiple attempts at extra-man offense.  The Red Raiders converted on two of their attempts while the Lakers could not convert on any of their attempts.  The man-down defense for Pal-Mac was a key factor of their win.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were eight quarterfinal games played today and two were in overtime. Irondequoit was a 9-8 winner over Thomas. Spencerport was a 7-6 winner over Brighton in triple overtime. 

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Canandaigua National Bank are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season. In our sixth group we have two seniors, and an eighth grader who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

There were forty-six games played last week. There are seventy-four out of section games scheduled and 74 have been played. Section V teams have won 48 and lost 26 (65%). Pal-Mac (16-0) is the only undefeated team at this point.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were thirteen games played today and four were close ones. Thomas defeated Rush-Henrietta by a score of 10-9. Marcus Whitman was a 11-10 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Midlakes-Red Jacket defeated Gates Chili by a score of 7-5 and Mynderse defeated Jordan Elbridge (Section III) by a score of 5-3. 

In our fourth group we have a senior and a sophomore who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were five games played today and one was a close one. Winners today were Geneva, Bloomfield-Honeoye, Gananda, and Greece Storm.

There forty-seven games played last week. There are seventy-eight out of section games scheduled and 70 have been played. Section V teams have won 45 and lost 25 (64%). Pal-Mac (15-0) is the only undefeated team at this point.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were a dozen games played today and only one was a close ones. Fayetteville-Manlius defeated Pittsford by a score of 9-8. There were eight games played with teams from outside Section V and six were wins.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were thirteen games played today and five were close ones. Pittsford was a 8-6 winner over Penfield. Marcus Whitman defeated Brockport by a score of 4-2. Newark was a 8-7 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye in double overtime. Brighton defeated Thomas by a score of 9-7.  Haverling defeated Bishop Kearney by a score of 10-9 and gave Head Coach Ken DiDomineck his 150th win.

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were five games played today and most were mismatches. Penn Yan led by two goals after three quarters but saw their lead lost when Carthage scored four goals including the game winner with 11 second left in regulation.

In our fourth group we have two seniors who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

There forty-six games played last week. There are seventy-seven out of section games scheduled and 58 have been played. Section V teams have won 36 and lost 22 (62%). Pal-Mac (12-0) is the only undefeated team at this point.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were ten games played today and three were close ones. Thomas defeated Penn Yan by a score of 9-7 giving Head Coach Rob Ruller his 250th win. Greece Storm was a 3-2 winner over East United-Eastridge and Victor was a 5-4 winner over Pittsford. 

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were 13 games played today and 5 were close ones. Pittsford defeated Fairport in overtime by a score of 8-7. Victor defeated Brighton by a score of 8-7. 

In our third group we have a junior and a senior who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

There fourty-two games played last week. There are seventy-six out of section games scheduled and 51 have been played. Section V teams have won 31 and lost 20 (61%). Pal-Mac (9-0) and McQuaid Jesuit (10-0 ) are the only undefeated team at this point.on the games page.

Canandaigua was a 7-5 winner over Penn Yan. Dryden was a 6-5 winner over Marcus Whitman. Spencerport was a 8-7 winner over Pittsford.

Wayne was a 12-10 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye and Hilton was a 8-7 winner over Horseheads. Aquinas defeated Canisius by a score of 8-7. Greece Storm defeated Eden by a score of 8-6. Victor was a 10-9 winner over Niskayuna. Penn Yan was a 4-3 winner over Clarence and West Genesee was a 10-8 winner over Penfield. 

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - There were 4 games played today and 2 were close ones. East United-Eastridge was a 6-4 winner over Midlakes-Red Jacket. Nichols was a 7-5 winner over Rush-Henrietta.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were 9 games played today and 3 were close ones. Fairport was a 5-4 winner over Hilton. Bloomfield-Honeoye defeated Brockport by a score of 8-6 and East United-Eastridge defeated Newark by a score of 7-5. 

After a couple of postponed games last week, games are expected to start up this week. There are 28 games on the schedule and a good number will have the opportunity to make strong statements.

On Friday, November 10th, the Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse will installed the 2023 class. Honored were Liz Hogan, John Houtenbrink, Peter Milliman, Marc Riccio, Dr. Phillip Winslow, and the 2015 and 2016 Boys Victor Teams.

There are a couple of significant changes in the Finger Lakes League this year, according to League Coordinator, Joe Hill who recently announced that Waterloo will not field a varsity team this year and that Livonia-Avon will play in the FL this season.

The USMC Sports Leadership Academy is presenting a FREE one-day Lacrosse Camp at Total Sports Experience.

DAY IN REVIEW: SUNDAY - After a great comeback in the last quarter, the Blue Devils ran out of time and lost 9-8 to a strong Garden City team from Section VIII who won their second title in a row.

Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - UPDATED - All four Section V teams won their Western Regional games today at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford. Pittsford and Victor took their games to running time early in the second half, while both Penn Yan and HFL took time before taking control.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12^th straight (and 27^th overall) Sectional Championship in the Class D game tonight. In the second game, Victor used seven different players including senior midfielder Braeden McConville who scored his first Varsity goal for the Blue Devils to the great delight of his teammates.

Victor won their first Championship title since 2019 with a 16-6 win over Spencerport. This was the first time in program history that Spencerport made the finals and the first time since Victor’s six year winning Streak (2014-2019) that the Blue Devils had made the finals. In addition to Victor Boys winning their title, the Victor Girls Lacrosse Team also won their Championship earlier in the evening with an 8-7 in quadruple overtime win over Irondequoit.

Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12^th straight (and 27^th overall) Sectional Championship.  The Mustangs had a slow start in the first quarter, but picked up the pace for the remainder of the game and led throughout.  After three quarters, the Mustangs led 7-2 before both teams added four goals each in the final quarter.

After finishing the last two seasons as the Runner-up, Pittsford finally became the Class A Champions.  The Panthers defeated McQuaid Jesuit 9-5 tonight.  The game was close for the first half before Pittsford took over in the third and fourth quarters.  The Panthers scored eight straight goals spanning the second, third and fourth quarters.  The Panther defense held the Knights scoreless for over 36 minutes.  Leading the charge for the Panthers was Tournament MVP senior attackman Rex Kesselring.  Kesselring finished with 4g. 

After finishing as the runner-up last season, HFL came back to win their second Section Five Title in 3 years with a double overtime 9-8 win over Wayne.  This was the first double overtime Finals matchup since Victor over Thomas in 2018.  The Cougars’ Chase Perryman scored the game winner with 2:59 left in the second overtime period.  Perryman was named the Class B Tournament MVP and finished the game with 4g-2a. 

*+Having punched their tickets in the semi-finals, the first Championship Day is set for Tuesday. Honeoye Falls-Lima, the top seeded team will play #3 Wayne to open the night starting at 5:00 PM. The second game will feature top seeded Pittsford who will play #2 McQuaid Jesuit at 7:30PM.

There twenty-five  tournament games played last week. There were seventy-two out of section games scheduled they all have been played. Section V teams won 43 and lost 29 (60%). There are no teams that are undefeated at this point.

McQuaid Jesuit used a 7 goal third quarter to pull ahead and defeat Penfield 10-6 in tonight’s second match-up.  The game was a defensive game for three quarters with 9 of the 17 total goals coming in the third quarter.  Penfield’s Mason Schembri finished at 50% with 8 of his 10 saves coming in the first half.  McQuaid Jesuit’s Will Gordon finished at 60% with 9 saves in the contest.  Offensively, McQuaid Jesuit’s Henry Coke and Penfield’s Ethan Aust both finished with 3g to lead their respective teams.  McQuaid Jesuit moves on to face Pittsford in the Finals on Tuesday.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - All of the quarterfinals in classes B and D were won by the higher seeded team except for # 7 Schroeder who, in a very low scoring close game, defeated #2 Canandaigua and will move on to play Spencerport in the semi-finals on Friday. Victor, who beat C-C will play Irondequoit, who beat Brighton. In Class D, Aquinas beat Haverling and will play Newark who beat Mynderse. Penn Yan beat Bloomfield-Honeoye and will play Marcus Whitman who beat Gananda.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were seven quarterfinal games today and in Class C the seeds held with Geneva, Pal-Mac and Wayne all advancing to the semi-finals on Friday at Canandaigua. In Class A Hilton #5 won their game with Rush-Henrietta #4 so the Cadets will advance with Pittsford, McQuaid and Penfield.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It took overtime after seven ties for the Rangers to beat McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. Brighton scored first and never looked back as they beat Aquinas 11-8. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning.

In our fifth group we have four players who have had noteworthy performances in the last few weeks.

We have been notified by Waterloo AD Christal Kent that Waterloo has cancelled the rest of their games for the 2023 season.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were a number of exciting games played in light rain or drizzle, starting with an overtime win by Victor at Pittsford. The Blue Devils scored the last five goals of the game. Irondequoit had a big 12-10 win over visiting HF-L and the Storm had a 5-4 overtime win over visiting Livonia-Avon.

In our fourth group we have a senior and a junior who have had noteworthy performances in the last few weeks.

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were just four games played today and all of them were mismatched. The winners were Mynderse. Bloomfield-Honeoye, Brockport and McQuaid Jesuit.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The last remaining undefeated team fell today as Canandaigua lost to Baldwinsville today. Penn Yan had a good one-goal win against Carthage, Penfield used overtime to beat Orchard Park, and Gananda had a won-goal win against Gates Chili. In another statement game, Victor posted a 14-8 win over Don Bosco Prep (NJ).

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - Out of the fourteen games played today, ten were mismatches. The others include a come from behind win for Mynderse in their game with Newark. Pittsford had an 8-2 win over Thomas and Schroeder beat Hilton 10-6. The Waterloo team did not have enough players for their game with Geneva and in the closest game of the night, Irondequoit took a 12-11 victory at Churchville-Chili.    BOX SCORE]

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Penn Yan and Livonia-Avon both won their games today.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Once again, there were many mismatches, but there were also some really good games. In the game of the last two unbeaten teams, Canandaigua (9-0) was the last team standing but the Cougars had a strong second half at both ends of the field. Senior A/M Jett Richardsen scored the overtime, game-winning goal for the Royal Comets in this game that could not have been closer with eight ties. Greece took an early lead and held on for their one goal win.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - Victor has a statement game with their 16-11 win over visiting JD. Irondequoit defeated Hilton, and McQuaid beat Brighton.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY -  The Blue Panthers took the first quarter 2-0 and led at the half 3-1.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Although the majority of games ended in mismatches, there were a couple of exciting games. Topping the list is Canandaigua's 4-3 win at Brighton where neither team scored in the second half. Pittsford took an early lead and then never gave it up in the 8-6 win over visiting Irondequoit and Spencerport held Fairport scoreless in two quarters in their 7-3 win at home. Penfield scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and then coasted to their 11-7 win over visiting Schroeder.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were five games played today and two were very exciting ones. Penfield came from behind to win their game with Irondequoit in overtime and Fairport used three goals in the last stanza to defeat West Genesee. Hilton was a winner over visiting Wayne and Schroeder and Pittsford lost to Section III team.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were eight games played today and three were won in overtime.  Junior A/M Sam Pucci (1g-1a) scored the game-winner for Fairport, East United/Eastridge won their game in overtime, and junior attackman Sean Olvany (5g) scored the unassisted game winner For Canandaigua. Other winners were R-H and Brighton.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: The 2023 season started today with one game. Newark hosted Watkins Glen, and after a 10-0 first quarter took the 20-0 win, giving sophomore goalie Carter Bumpus a shutout with four saves.

Varsity lacrosse teams throughout New York State had their first practice of the 2023 season today and thousands of players have high hopes for a fantastic year, full of wins and championships. In the end, however, there will only be two teams left in each class who will compete for the New York State Championships.

On Saturday, November 5th, the Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse will install its 28th class. The event will take place at the Harro East Ballroom (155 N Chestnut st, Rochester, NY 14604) with a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm.

The New York State Sportswriters Association, posted their 2022 All-State lacrosse teams today with twenty Section V players included on the lists. There are two divisions: Large Schools (Classes A and B) and Small Schools (Classes C and D).

At their "Year-End Gathering" the members of the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association announced their annual Frank Mangione Award for Excellence award winner.

*+The 2022 Section V Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section V Championship games. The winners were Quinn Nolan from Pal-Mac, Eric Platten from Canandaigua and Curtis Denison from Geneva.

Bishop Kearney scheduled twelve games but dropped out just before the tournaments at the end of the season. There were 870 players on the final rosters, down five players from 2021. Rush-Henrietta and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-seven players and Batavia-Notre Dame had the smallest with thirteen. 

Thirty-four teams had already cleaned out the lockers and only Canandaigua was still playing today after an exciting season during which the Braves continually improved. Today, however, they were playing against a team from Garden City which, very much like their own team, had a very strong defensive unit and the willingness to work hard.SCORE] 

The Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse recently announced the 2022 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. After a COVID absence, this year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at Victor High School.

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class.

The Head Coaches of Section V recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards.

Two Section V teams are moving on to the NYS semifinal games in Cortland on Wednesday. Fairport won their game against Clarence 17-4 and Canandaigua won a close 6-5 game against Hamburg. Penn Yan had a 12-11 loss to Akron and Pal-Mac fell to Lake Shore 10-4.

Pittsford and Fairport have faced three times in the Sectional Championship over the last seven tournaments.  In each of the last seven years at least one of them has been present in the finals.  When they faced last year, Fairport won in overtime but  tonight, Fairport won again (their third straight) with an 8-3 win over the Panthers. 

Canandaigua has reached the Sectional Finals eight of the last ten contests, including the last three tournaments that have been held.  The Braves have not won since 2013 with an 11-10 win over Victor in overtime.  Tonight, the Braves added their second win with a 7-3 victory over Irondequoit. 

After appearing in the finals the last two seasons, Pal-Mac came into tonight’s game looking for their first win since 2017.  The Red Raiders fought back hard with last four goals of the game to defeat HF-L 8-5.  A key factor in that win was Red Raider goalie Will Nichols.  He finished the game with nine saves, including six in the first half and was named the All Tournament MVP for Class C. 

*+Penn Yan cemented their 26^th Section V Title with a comeback 8-6 win over Livonia-Avon.  The Mustangs trailed for most of the game before scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to secure the win.  The Mustangs showed their pedigree of Section Final matches and stayed cool and collected throughout.  

*+Having won their Section V Championships, teams will now travel west to Section VI for the NYS quarter finals which will be held at Williamsville East High School on Saturday.

*+The Section Five Championships are set and will be played over two nights at Canandaigua on Tuesday and Eastridge on Wednesday.

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - The only team that broke the seeding in the quarter finals was  #5 Rush-Henrietta who beat #4 Hilton 10-8.

DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - A fourth quarter surge gave the Red Raiders the win over Penn Yan. Victor survived a scare in their 12-8 win vs Schroeder and Midlakes-Red Jacket won a 10-8 game against the Pride.

For "Week 7" we have two players who had standout performances last week. Justin Schnauber from Spencerport and Liam Podszebka were chosen.

There were forty-nine games played last week with a few won in overtime. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and forty have been played. Section V teams have won twenty-four and lost nineteen (56%). Victor (13-0) is still the only undefeated team left at this point.

For "Week 6" we have two players who had standout performances last week.Selected were Sam Ricci (Victor) and Jason Mosher (Hilton).

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - It was a busy day with more than a dozen games played. Pittsford beat Penfield in overtime and a score with two seconds left in regulation gave Victor a win at Fairport to remain the only undefeated team in the section. Hilton also won their game with R-H in overtime.

There were thirty-two games played last week with a couple of overtime games. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and thirty-three have been played. Section Five teams have won sixteen and lost seventeen (48%). Victor (7-0) is the only undefeated team left at this point.

For "Week 4" we have two players who had standout performances last week: Jamie O`Neil and Seamus Hand.

Section Five teams have won eleven and lost twelve (48%). There are only three undefeated team left at this point: Fairport (4-0), Victor (5-0) and Irondequoit (4-0).

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It was an overtime win for Pal-Mac as face off specialist Quinn Nolan won 18 of 21 draws, scored the game winning goal and led the team with 3g-1a. Irondequoit held on for their 9-8 win over Visiting Schroeder.

For "Week 3" we have two players who had standout performances last week: Mitch Monte and Mike Valent.

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - In a repeat of last year`s Class B championship game, there was a different outcome as the Braves defeated Thomas in a close 11-8 game. Penfield held off a last minute charge by Spencerport in their 10-9 win.

Class C - Monroe County League

Back, however is two-way middie sophomore Chase Perryman who logged 29g-24a last year. Also back is junior A/M Braydn Trybuskiewicz (34g-22a) who Coach Beaney says is a "tough, hard-working player."

Waterloo 2022

Class D - Finger Lakes League

Last year was tough for Waterloo with only one senior on the offensive book. The young team from last year is now a year older and more experienced and is looking for more wins.

Schroeder 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Schroeder had a very young team last year and paid their dues, so they expect that this year there will be a payoff as they return their two offensive leaders who, among others, are strong and ready to play.

Rush-Henrietta 2022

Class a - Monroe County League

The Royal Comets have been trying to turn the corner under fifth year Head Coach Tom MacMillan and they turn that corner this year. In the current season they have won their first three games, outscoring their opponents 54-16.

For "Group 1" we have two players who had standout performances last week: Jack Faiola and Quinn Nolan.

After only playing in five games last season, Webster Thomas goalie Owen Dalberth started his second game of the season tonight for the Titans.  The senior goalie was instrumental in the 13-12 win over Penfield this evening.  In the fourth quarter alone, Dalberth recorded six of his game total ten saves.

Pittsford 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

Last year there were certainly tough moments for the Panthers as they posted a 9-7 record, losing to the top teams in the section, including the overtime loss to Fairport in the Class A finals. This, however, is another new year, filled with new promise.

Mynderse 2022

Class D - Finger Lakes League

Head Coach Joe Caraher is not only a proud alumnus but also was the Blue Devils` coach for fourteen years before agreeing to return to the sidelines for the 2022 campaign.

Spencerport 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Spencerport won their first eleven games last year, with Penfield breaking their streak and later, ending their season in the quarter finals. Their only other loss in 2021 was a one-goal game with Hilton. The Rangers had much to celebrate and hopes that that momentum will help this year.

Pal-Mac 2022

Class C - Finger Lakes League

Pal-Mac was 13-9 last year, loosing to Penn Yan in the Class D Championship game but this year they are in Class C and they have an abundance of talent from a very good team last year. All of their stat leaders from 2021 are back and offensively they only lost 25 of 374 points to graduation.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was a busy day with fourteen games played today. Most were mismatches, but there were three closer ones.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: After a 1-1 first quarter, Waterloo scored three unanswered goals against Midlakes-Red Jacket to take a 4-1 lead into the halftime break. The Screaming Eagles came back in the third with three unanswered goals to tie the game 4-4. After many trips up and down the field, Waterloo scored two goals to finish with a 6-4 win in their season opener.

Churchville-Chili 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

The Saints began their varsity program in 2005 with Logan Roberts as the Head Coach. Since then there have been seven coaching changes. Chris Fiala is the newest and he has high hopes to take Churchville-Chili back to the glory days, when D.T. Benedict (now at Brighton) had a 17-1 record in 2016.

Hilton 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

Hilton was excited last year after a three-game run that took them to the Class A semifinals where they played a good game, but lost to Fairport, the eventual champions.

Penfield 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Penfield feels like a Class A team, but they are actually a Class B team, and last year, at 12-4, the only games that they lost were to Victor, Thomas and Canandaigua, which finished right above them in the Class B Tournament. They had memorable games, beating West Genesee, Fairport and Pittsford.

Webster Thomas 2022

Class M - Monroe County League

It is hard to imagine a season much better than the 2021 season for Coach Rob Ruller, who lost only to Victor in May, but who then beat the Blue Devils in the Class B tournament to cap their15-1 season.

Newark 2022

Class C - Finger Lakes League

The last fourteen years of the Newark program was under the able direction of Matt Groot who stepped down after last season. The leadership of the Reds is now in the hands of John Hicks who spent the off-season encouraging strength training, setting up open gym events and revitalizing a booster club.

Geneva 2022

Class C - Finger Lakes League

As he starts his second full season, Coach Dunham is excited to share the history of the first scholastic team in the section.

East United-Eastridge 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

London Booker may be a first year head coach, but his roots go deep in the Rochester lacrosse community. As a player in the ROC E6 program and currently as Vice President of the organization, not only does he know the game, but he knows the players, many of whom he has worked with for years.

Livonia-Avon 2021

Class C - GRALL League

There was great disappointment last year, after winning twelve of their last fourteen games the Lakers fell to HF-L in their first championship appearance since 2012.

Victor 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Last year Victor was 13-2 for new Head Coach Dan Stone with their only losses to Canandaigua (5-7) during the regular season and Thomas in the semifinals (7-10).

There were four games played since the start of games on March 24th with the HF-L win at Haverling being the closest at 10-9. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and one has been played. Section Five won it.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were two games on the first weekend of the season. Pal-Mac and McQuaid Jesuit were winners.

This year, BLaxFive.NET is celebrating the start of scholastic lacrosse in 1922 when Geneva High School was the first team in the "area" to sponsor a scholastic team. Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: Class C Champions, Honeoye Falls-Lima traveled to Haverling tonight to play the first game of the 2022 season. It was a great game that was close throughout, never differing by more than two, as the Cougars won the 10-9 victory.

In the “modern period” there have been a just a few programs that were constantly at the top of the local lacrosse world and one of them was Rush-Henrietta.

Irondequoit 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Irondequoit has been struggling but Head Coach Aaron Bottazzo remembers from his own playing days on the fields at Irondequoit what it takes, and he is working to get the Eagles back on track. He will be helped some this year with the MC-3 alignment.

Brockport 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Head Coach Josh Laskowski has been working hard since he arrived in 2019 to build a program at Brockport. It has been difficult to find games of equal match and their MC-3 alignment still has tough teams including Irondequoit and HF-L. Still, if the goal is to win more games each year, he should have a chance this year.

Marcus Whitman 2022

Class D - Finger Lakes League

In the last two seasons, the Wildcats had more wins than in the previous six seasons combined and they earned a second seed last year and finished with a 13-3 record. First year coach Mike Gorton takes over from Greg O`Connor and although there were four first team all-leagues lost to graduation, the team that returns knows how to win and there is excitement for the program.

Brighton 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Brighton had only two players with experience on the 2021 team and had a killer scheduled that resulted in a 5-10 season, but there were valuable lessons learned and Coach Benedict has a good group of seniors returning.

Aquinas 2022

Class D - GRALL

Veteran college and high school coach Terry Corcoran will be building his new team at Aquinas after his four-year stint at McQuaid Jesuit. The Lil` Irish will look to improve their 8-7 record from last year where their season was ended in a 15-5 loss to Haverling in the quarterfinals.

Bath Haverling 2022

Class D - GRALL League

Last year the Rams were young and with attackman Jamie O`Neil producing 127 points, they finish the season at 10-5. This year, O`Neil is back along with a great deal of last year's team.

Gates Chili 2022

Class B - Monroe County League

Last year, Coach Cam Gormel was hoping to build, but his Monroe County D2 schedule was brutal with losses to Penfield, Thomas, Brighton, Schroeder and Canandaigua. His D3 schedule this year may help the Spartans with games agaist East United/Eastridge and Brockport.

Greece Storm 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

The Storm lost eight seniors to graduation and with them all of their stat leaders and so, with three sophomores in the starting lineup, it looks like Coach Shane Cole is rebuilding from his 6-8 team last year. Still, he is very optimistic given the chemistry of this year's team.

Fairport 2022

Class A - Monroe County League

In the abbreviated 2021 season, the Red Raiders took the top seed in Class A with an 8-5 record and with only seven teams in the Class A bracket they had a bye in the first round. They beat a greatly improved Hilton, 11-6 in the semifinals, and then beat Pittsford in overtime for their tenth championship and second in a row.

Penn Yan 2021

Class D - Finger Lakes League

The Mustangs have won twenty-five Section V championships and have only lost one time since 1999 and given the losses to graduation and general youth of the team this year, winning the twenty-sixth will be a challenge. But we are talking about Penn Yan and youth, inexperience, and size does not play the same way in Penn Yan as it does in the rest of world.

There are eleven teams in Class D this year and all teams can play in the tournament this year which will start with out-bracket games on May 23rd this year. As of March 25th, the coaches poll predicts that Penn Yan and Livonia-Avon will play in the championship game. The first complete poll will be posted on April 3rd.

In the twentieth century many coaches studied the game and then took over the programs for their own long, noteworthy runs.

There are so many great stories about coaches with long and successful runs, but one story is about a short run with astounding results.

In the earliest years, there were only 199 All-Americans for the whole country, so the number in each area that played was small. Monroe County and Finger Lakes teams shared the number of awards and picked their own winners.

At the Executive Committee meeting in June of 1974, there were three significant decisions. The third was the decision to approve lacrosse as a sectional sport in 1975.

Before the 1960’s officials were generally selected by the home team. They were most often “retired” coaches or former players who wanted to stay close to the game.

For over twenty-five years, Mynderse Academy Head Coach Al Henry created a very big family. The hallmark of his many years of teaching lacrosse centered around the concept that the lacrosse teams were a family.

It would be a tough act to follow – a New York State Championship, or at least a legitimate claim for one. Jim Loman’s accession to the lacrosse coaching duties at Geneva High School in the spring of 1924 brought high expectations for him and the school’s fledgling, but highly accomplished team of ‘stickwielders.’

Back in “the old days”, most coaches became head coaches only after learning from mentors. They often started by coaching modified or junior varsity teams and eventually had enough experience to be hired as the head of a program. When coaches “grew up” in the same program, the team benefited from the consistency of teaching the “way we do things” and most often the team, over years, was successful.

Section V ran their first lacrosse tournament in 1975 and eleven teams were entered with Rush-Henrietta seeded first. Webster Thomas was seeded second and when fourth-seeded Irondequoit beat them (7-4) in the semifinals, Irondequoit faced Thomas for the championship.Tournament Page.

Born in October of 1920, Herbert T. Fitch lived a life that was full of lacrosse and service. At Geneva High School he played football, basketball and lacrosse and was a four-year letterman, helping Geneva capture the league title in both his junior and senior years.

[Editor: As we look at one hundred years, we have the chance to look not just way, way back, but also in the more recent past. This time we look at the accomplishments of both a Geneva alumnus and an Irondequoit great.]

With 431 wins Irondequoit’s John Pratt is at the head of the list of most wins within Section V. In fact, at present, he is at number 14 in the state and 34 in the nation for wins.

As Dr. J.B. Covert of Hobart was facilitating the 1922 birth of lacrosse at Geneva High School, legendary Syracuse University coach Laurie Cox was mentoring the development of the sport at the scholastic level in the larger city to the east. A pair of teams emerged from that mentorship, Syracuse Central and Christian Brothers Academy. Along with Geneva those two schools created the foundation of competitive schoolboy lacrosse in Upstate New York that would last until 1940.

The first twenty years of the Irondequoit lacrosse history were led by two coaches, Vern Babcock, sometimes called the “father of Irondequoit lacrosse” and Ernie Lisi who is also called the “father of Irondequoit Lacrosse” and who, in his sixteen years, put Irondequoit on the local and national map.

[Ed Note: As we celebrate 100 Years, we will be looking at players and coaches throughout the time period. Today, lets look at some special players (from the 1970's through 2020's.)]

The first National Interscholastic Lacrosse Association All-Americans in Section V were awarded in 1971 when Andrew Gallina* from Irondequoit and Jim Darcangelo from Corning East were the recipients.  Gallina led the league is points his senior year and continued his career at Brown. Darcangelo went on to play at Towson, where he was a three-time All-American, two-time “Player of the Year” and was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 1990.

As of this writing, there have been 208 All-American awards from 1971 to 2021. The formula for the number of awards has changed over the fifty years and the one constant in the process is that the coaches in the section have selected the winners.

Fifteen players have had the great distinction of being selected in both their junior and senior years.

Many readers might not know that Corning East (and West) lacrosse teams both played in Section V before moving back to Section IV where they are today. From 1976 and through the 1983 season, Corning East was a top contender in Section V. Geneva alumnus, Coach Corcoran started the Corning program in 1967 and they played in Section IV or the Upstate League until 1975.

When Joe Corcoran restarted the Geneva lacrosse program in 1957, freshman Jack McDonald made the team. He had three coaches in his first three years as Joe Kraus (son of the well-known “Babe” Kraus) coached his sophomore year and then Bob Manners started his long run which continued until Jack replaced him in 1970. In his senior year, Jack won the Covert Trophy for the most valuable player. Those four years was the beginning of a life-long love of the sport.

The infant Geneva High School lacrosse program and native son Jim Loman first intersected in the summer of 1923. The two would be intimately linked for 17 years.

We expect that there will be a large number of stories about players, coaches and events and will post links to each of them as we celebrate 100 years.

In a LAX LINES piece on SportFive.Net, “New Sport for School,” Coach Paul Wilson introduced Geneva as the pioneering scholastic program in Section Five nearly a century ago. What was the source of the idea and where did the impetus for the sport’s first adoption come from? The Daily Times’ “Sports Notes” author continues:

“New Sport for School” was the headline of the story on page 19 of the Democrat & Chronicle that announced that Geneva High School would play their first scholastic game on Wednesday, April 19th, 1922. With that announcement, scholastic lacrosse was underway in Section Five. 

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle documented, on April 19th, 1922, the first scholastic lacrosse game for the Geneva High School boys. That first game was against “cross-town” Hobart College freshman and the Panthers won 3-1. At the time “Central High” (Syracuse) also played.

The Livonia-Avon lacrosse team is looking for varsity games for the upcoming season. The Lakers were 13-5 last year under coach John Sciera and are expected to return a number of starters.

*+The Greater Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse held their twenty-seventh Hall of Fame dinner Friday night at the RIT Inn and Conference Center in Henrietta.

The new Head Coach at Aquinas is the former Head Coach at McQuaid Jesuit. Terry Corcoran has taken over the L' il Irish team from Pat Olbrich who led the team from 2018. 

On Friday, November 5th, the Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse will install its 27th class. The event will take place at the RIT Inn and Conference Center (5257 West Henrietta Road) with a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm.

If you are looking for information about Bath, you will need to look a little farther. As the school district created their new brand, they are now asking everyone to use Haverling instead of Bath.

In 2017 organizers from Canandaigua made a bold proposal to join the national Shootout for Soldiers movement and beating out many larger sites, became the smallest location selected to host an event. Led by a team that included Carrie Vierhile, Deven York and John Isaac, the event raised over $50,000 in that first year. In their three-year history the group has raised over $180,000 and their ambitious goal this year in $100,000.

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. Two of the four top seeded won their championships. Fairport (#1) beat Pittsford (#3) 6-5 in overtime in Class A. In Class B, Thomas (#3) defeated Canandaigua (#1) 6-5 and in Class C, HF-L (#3) defeated Livonia-Avon (#1) 19-10. In Class D, Penn Yan (#1) won their twenty-fifth sectional title with a 16-2 win against Pal-Mac (#3).

Because of the short season and the many quick decisions that had to be made within days, there were a number of teams, including the GRALL teams that did not play league games. The Finger Lakes League graciously invited several of the GRALL teams into their schedule this year, an act of great generosity. However, the lack of a league of their own, left many players with truly extraordinary performances without recognition or awards.

*+The 2021 Section V Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section Five Class B Championship game. The winners, all from Class B teams were Logan Callahan from Victor, Ethan Ruller from Webster Thomas and Will Hand from Penfield.

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class.

*+Webster Thomas never trailed in their 6-5 win over Canandaigua tonight to secure their fourth Sectional Championship and the first since 2016.  In 2018, freshman Ethan Ruller started in the cage for Webster Thomas and helped take his team to the Sectional Finals. 

Fairport defeated Pittsford in overtime 6-5 tonight to secure their 10th Sectional Title and second consecutive title (2019 win over Hilton 9-4). This is the fourth straight tournament that have seen the Red Raiders in the finals. With tonight's win, the Red Raiders moved into third for the most titles by any program in Section Five.

The Head Coaches of Section V recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards.

Third seeded HF-L came out strong in the first quarter and never really looked back in their 18-10 win over top seeded Livonia-Avon.  The Cougars never trailed in the game, although the Lakers kept the game close with a few runs throughout the game. 

The Section Five Championships are set and will be played over two nights at the higher seeded team`s field on Monday and Tuesday. First up is the Class D where third seeded Palmyra-Macedon will face top seeded Penn Yan at 5:00.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: The Class C and D semifinals have been played and the Championship matchup are set. Pal-Mac (#4) took out Marcus Whitman (#2) and Honeoye Falls-Lima (#3) took out Geneva (#2), but the top seeds won their games. Penn Yan (#1) defeated Haverling (#4) and Livonia-Avon (#1) defeated Wayne (#4). On Monday it will be Pal-Mac at Penn Yan and HF-L at Livonia-Avon for the brick.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: The quarter finals were played today, and there were fourteen winners and fourteen teams that ended their seasons. Following the season trend, almost all were mismatches with only the Irondequoit at Thomas game close, for most of the game. As expected, all the higher seeded teams won today and the top four seeded teams are now set for the semifinals.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were eight games played today and the smallest margin was when Geneva beat Pal-Mac 6-4. Penn Yan defeated Marcus Whitman 10-3 and Spencerport beat McQuaid Jesuit 9-5. Other winners today were Newark, Bishop Kearney, Aquinas, East United-Eastridge and Gananda.

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: Two games were played on Memorial Day. Penfield and Canandaigua were the winners.

There were fourty-five games played last week and although there were some exciting ones there continued to be a large number of mismatches. With travel concerns this season there are only ten out of section games scheduled and eight have been played. Section Five has won seven.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: In another exciting game, Victor beat Thomas with three goals in the last quarter to remain undefeated with the 9-6 victory at home. Pittsford beat Irondequoit 8-6 with four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Four extra goals in the first quarter gave HF-L the win over Rush-Henrietta.Pittsford at post time. [BOX SCORE]

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: Senior attackman Brady Knauf scored the last of his 5g-1a in the second overtime period to give Gates Chili a 12-11 win at Gananda tonight. Meanwhile, in Canandaigua defense was the name of the game as the Braves defeated McQuaid Jesuit 4-1. The other seven games were mismatches in which the winners outscore their opponents 105-24.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: After three lead changes, Gates Chili came alive after halftime and scored four third quarter goals to cement their 12-9 win at Brockport.

For "Group 1" we have two players who had standout performances in the first week and a half of the abbreviated 2021 season.

EDITOR' S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were sixty-one games played lsince the start of games on April 29th and although there were some exciting ones the majority were mismatches, demonstrating that some players worked more than others in the "year without games". With travel concerns at the moment there are only eight out of section games scheduled and four have been played. Section Five has won all four.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Webster Thomas scored the first goal of the game and although Fairport quickly tied it, the Titans went ahead early in the second quarter and never gave up the lead in their 7-5 win at Fairport this afternoon. The spectators saw a very defensive game with Titan senior goalie Ethan Ruller making All-American saves and Fairport junior goalie McLean Ralston making 12s (63%).

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: In a rainy-muddy game played on Friday afternoon, Marcus Whitman's Ryan Herod scored the game winning goal with 0:08 left on the clock to give the Wildcats an 8-7 win over Wayne.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: The season is one week old and there continues to be many mismatches. There were two more shutouts today, but the Penn Yan at Geneva was exciting for most of the game and the Aquinas at Haverling could have gone either way.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW:In one of the few non-mismatched games this year, Fairport travelled to Pittsford in what the preseason coaches' poll said will be the Class A finals and as they predicted, Fairport won this one, but despite the 10-7 game it really could have gone either way. Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were five games played on Saturday and most were mismatches.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was opening day after a year without lacrosse and all four games today were mismatches. Bloomfield-Honeoye scored first in their opener at Waterloo and never lost the lead in what was a close game until in the last stanza, the Pride scored four unanswered goals. Junior midfielder JD Allen left the game with 6g-1a and senior attackman Max Willix had 2g-3a to lead the scoring. For Waterloo, sophomore attackman Nathan Costantino and junior midfielder Peter Shangraw each had 2g-1a for Waterloo who gets a few days off before player Wayne on Tuesday.

Head coaches from all thirty-five Section V teams were invited to participate in a preseason poll, asking the question, which teams will be in the finals and which team will win.

Aquinas stuggled in 2019 and ended with their first loosing season since 2001 and so they were ramped up to play last year. Coach Pat Olbrich has some athletic multi-sport athletes as the core of his team this year and a schedule that will give them lots of opportunities for a great season.

Like many teams this year, there are not many players returning from the 2019 roster, but Coach Matt Morrin will start his seventh year with three players at midfield who have been there before.

Head Coach Scott Sciera is back for his eighth season at Mynderse with a full sixteen game schedule and a very young roster.

Unlike most teams in the section, Thomas only lost two seniors to 2020 graduations and so they have many players who were successful as underclassmen. Although all that youth was tough in 2019, leaving the Titans with their first losing season since 2005, there will most certainly be a payoff this year even as they play in the most competitive class.

In Churchville-Chili's short history, they have had six head coaches and the latest, Cubby Chalmers has worked to bring the program back to the 2016 season when they went 17-1. This year's schedule is not robust but gives the Saints opportunities to show they can play with the more established programs.

In their last time out, the Red Raiders had a 17-3 record and went all the way to the NYS finals behind the efforts of Klay Stuver, Colin Peers and Gavin Ingalls among others on the offensive end and Tim Defendis in the goal. Fairport always seems to have a core of standout players, but this year it harder to see the core having lost opportunities to shine in 2020. Still, the majority of coaches in the section feel strongly that Fairport will be in the championship game again this year.

The first week of practice is nearly done and there is a great deal of excitement as players and coaches take to the field in preparation for the first scholastic games since June of 2019.

We have posted twenty previews thus far this week. They are the result of our work along with information provided by the head coaches of twenty four of the 35 coaches in the section. We are still looking forward to eleven more in the next few days. Spencerport had a rough start the last time out, dropping its first five games, but then they found themselves and won five games at the end of the season, losing to Canandaigua in the quarter finals. The Rangers are looking forward to continuing the upward trend.

Irondequoit has one of the most stories histories in scholastic lacrosse. Their eighth Head Coach, Aaron Bottazzo, was hired in 2020 and is an Irondequoit alumnus who played for John Pratt. He will be seeing his first action with the team when he hosts Thomas on May third. Like many coaches he is ready to get on the field, "Right now, the boys are extremely excited to have the opportunity to get back out on the field and compete with each other and against the top-notch lacrosse teams we see in section V. After losing the season last year, we can' t wait to find out about ourselves and see what we can become."

Brighton will have a young and inexperienced team this year. There are only two players returning from 2019, but they are quality players. Senior attackman Olin Stanat will start the season with 42g-21a from his freshman and sophomore years. He will be playing for Le Moyne after graduation. Senior midfielder Sam Tourangeau also has two years of experience and will start the year with 15g-3a and 260 face off wins (67%). He will be heading to Ithaca next year where his expects to play both football and lacrosse. 

Head Coach Shane Cole was hired last year taking over for Andy Hilton and although he had big plans, there were no games, so he, like his players are looking forward to this season. "The Greece boys are very excited to get after it this year. We have a dedicated group of seniors and underclassman who want to make a statement this season." The 2019 season ended the Storm's 11-6 record with an overtime 10-9 loss to Penfield in the quarterfinals.

Schroeder had few underclassmen on the 2019 roster and so most of this year's team will be new to the varsity. Junior midfielder Nick Hauman returns after scoring 31g-20a as a freshman and has committed to play at Towson after graduation. According to Coach Mordaci, "He is a very strong two-way midfielder, a leader, and has a fantastic lacrosse IQ." Joining him in the midfielder is senior Tim Weisensel (10g-5a) who is very athletic and quick and junior Tyler Gould.

Livonia-Avon Head Coach John Sciera was hired last season and has yet to coach his first game for the Lakers but he certainly knows the area and the Finger Lakes. Sciera started the Livonia program in 2002 and coached through the 2007 season before moving on to coach at the college level. He has a full schedule this year that starts with the Finger Lakes and adds Aquinas, Haverling from GRALL and a few Monroe County teams.

In 2019 Greg O' Connor came on as the Head Coach and Marcus Whitman had their first winning season since 2012 and only the second time since they started in 2009. They also made the tournament final four for the first time and so the Wildcats were hoping that momentum would carry on into 2020. Fortunately, there is a good core of players that return from that 2019 team.

After his arrival during the 2018 tournament, Head Coach Jeff Dunham won his first sectional title. Many coaches in the Section think that Head Coach Jeff Dunham could end up with his third sectional championship this spring.

Penfield has been playing in the Class A tournaments until this year when they dropped to Class B where there will be huge competition at tournament time. The Patriots will see a bunch of Class B teams during the regular season with interesting matchups with Canandaigua on May 12th, Thomas on May 19th and Victor two days later. They will open their season hosing West Genesee on May 1st.

There are lots of changes in Haverling this season. The Rams will play a Finger Lakes League schedule this year, although they will not be in contention for their league honors, they will count on youth to lead the team while playing new competition.

Quite a number of coaches feel that McQuaid Jesuit will be a top contender among Class A teams this year which makes sense with three players who made first-team All-League honors as sophomores returning for their senior year. In the attack is Max Ettinghausen is a four-year starter who scored 28g-24a in 2019 and 23g-13a as a freshman. He is a "fast, smart and tough player with excellent stick skills and is a strong leader" according to Coach Corcoran. He will continue playing lacrosse next year at Tufts.

Gananda had a tough year in 2019, posting their first losing season since 2011 at 6-11. They had a large number of underclassmen on that team and some are now juniors and seniors.Junior midfielder, Brock Chasey is back after scoring 14g-4a as a freshman, along with senior attackman AJ Golden, who as a sophomore on the 2019 team scored 23g-2a. Bothwill be important on the Blue Panther offense. Gavin Britton is back in the goal for the Blue Panthers. He made 141 saves as the starting goalie in 2019 and is looking forward to more this season. Helping in defense will be junior defenseman Justen Moskal.

Newark has a mixture of returning and new players on the varsity this year. Brandon McNeil had 9g-3a as a sophomore midfielder and plans to play at D`youville next year. His classmate, Jayden Shepherd had 9g-6a and is a three-sport athlete. The goalie spot this year looks like it will be filled by Caleb George Cody who had very limited time in 2019, but learned a great deal from Talyn Pierce who was the Goalie of the Year in the Finger Lakes. Coach Groot says, "Caleb will be the quarterback of the defense and has put in a lot of work into it!". Helping him will be Aaron Rodney-Spencer, a senior defenseman who the Reds will look to handle top opponent attackmen.

Hilton has a good mix of games they should win and those that be more challenging. 2019 was a great year for the Cadets with a 14-3 record that took them all the way to the Class A championship game where they lost to Fairport. They will play both Fairport and Pittsford in the regular season and could face one or both in the tournament. They will also play McQuaid Jesuit in the regular season and could see them at the end of the year as well.

Wayne is a respected program in the Finger Lakes and in Class C as they have seen continual growth in the program in the last few years. Although they were finalist in the Sectional tournament in 2018 and 2019, they have be unable to bring home the block. There have been several close games against Geneva so it is clear that the Eagles can win against the Panthers. 

There is no doubt the Penn Yan will be looking to win their twenty-fifth Section V title this spring. The Mustangs have won every year except one since 1998. Head Coach Brian Hobart will be playing fourteen regular season games, most of which will be against Finer Lakes teams. The Mustangs will be playing as part of the Finger Lake League this year after many years as an Independent. In a "normal" year they would have scheduled tough competition in and out the Section as they would prepare for NYS tournament action, but there is no State tournaments this spring.

The Royal Comets had fifteen seniors last year who did not get their senior year and almost all of their scoring left with them. The 2019 season was their best year for R-H since 2015 ending in the quarterfinals with a loss to Hilton and things were looking up. 

Canandaigua is one of the top teams in Class B, but there are a lot of them, as the class is the most competitive that the section as seen and quite a while. The Canandaigua schedule is full of good games against teams like Penn Yan, Corning, Ithaca, and Victor, but they really don' t have any easy ones. 

Class C 2021 Preview Team Stories

Penn Yan offensive player, Ayden Mowry, has announced that he will sign his National Letter of Intent to study and play at Lenoir Rhyne University after his senior year.

The first player support ad has been posted in support of Pittsford Defenseman Jack Wallace.

With the new design for BLaxFive.NET last year, new "player ads" were made available to help defray the ever-growing costs by allowing friends and family to post an "ad" on their favorite player's "Player Pages". When the season ended before it even started, there were, surprisingly, no ads purchased until this week, when an "anonymous fan" posted the first ad on Jack's player page.

Pittsford senior defenseman Jack Wallace has signed his National Letter of Intent to study and play lacrosse for the Dragons of Drexel University in Philadelphia. In his sophomore years Jack registered thirty-five takes and picked up forty-four ground balls and two assists. For his efforts he was named to the second team MC-D1 All County list as a Long Stick Midfielder.

Canandaigua junior defenseman Eric Platten recently announced his verbal commitment to continue his education and play lacrosse at Yale University. He received an All League Honorable Mention award in his freshman year.

Penfield High School Alumnus and Albany star, Connor Russell will conduct a face off instruction session at the Regional Sports Center (Jefferson Rd) on November 28th from 3:30PM-5:30PM.

The annual Under Armour All-America Senior games were cancelled last spring, but the organizers recently published the list of players who would have been invited if there had been a 2020 spring season.

There are only two awards section-wide awards for the season that wasn' t, one by Section V and one by US Lacrosse.

(July, 2010) - It's the 31st edition of the Empire State Games, and there is great excitement after a one year hiatus, as the games return, this year, in Buffalo. Six thousand athletes from the six regions will compete in the olympic style games.

It was the 31st anniversary of the Empire State Games, and they were played in Westchester from July 23th-27th. Six thousand athletes from the six regions competed in the Olympic style games.

New York State sponsored sored state-wide Olympics style games for amateur state residents and scholastic lacrosse was held from 1984 to 2010. Sportsfive Media kept official results for several years including 2006.

Last week, Section V announced on their website that following the recommendations of the CDC and "in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches and fans":

All Section V winter and springs sports programs are on currently on hold. This shutdown is in collaboration with the mandated school closures throughout all of Section V. This in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches and fans.

Just before the school closures, the Section V Non-Public/Charter School Committee, after study and consideration, approved the placement of McQuaid Jesuit into Class A for 2020.

The Livonia-Avon Lakers have a new Head Coach, just days before the start of 2020 season and he has deep ties to the program. John Sciera started the Livonia Bulldogs team in 2002 and was the Head Coach there through the 2007 season before the job went to Brett Wood in 2008. His record after six seasons was 61-53.

New Head Coach Mike Denely reports that the Bloomfield-Honeoye Pride needs a coach for their modified team this season.

Kyle Barrett and Paul Wilson will once again offer a clinic for team statisticians. This year the clinic will be offered at the Pittsford Recreation Center on Lincoln Avenue.

Senior attackman Jordan Deats has announced that he will continue his eduaction and play for Roberts Wesleyan after his fourth and final year at Haverling-Haverling. The leader in goals, assists and points last year with the Rams, he registerd 100 points (53g-47a) and will start this season with a career record of 79g-82a.

Junior midfielder Patrick Mitchell has announced his decision to continue his education and play lacrosse at Canisius College. The Churchville-Chili junior will start this season with a career record of 56g-29a and 119 groundballs. In his sophomore year he recorded 35g-26a and was named to the first team All League list (MC-d2).

Long Stick Midfielder Luke Delavak has announced his decision to go to Roberts Wesleyan where he hopes to study and play lacrosse for Rocky Delfino. Not afraid to go to the goal, Luke scored 15g-9a last season and earned an honorable mention in the Monroe County League list last year (MC-d1).

Rush-Henrietta attackman Gunner MacMillan has announced that he will continue his studies and play lacrosse for Baldwin Wallace (Ohio). Leading the Royal Comets in assists last year (26g-37a) Gunner earned a second team All-League spot (MC-d1). He will start his senior year with a career record of 47g-59a.

Fairport Junior Connor Fundis announced last week his commitment to Albany. The rising junior was an honorable mention All League defenseman last season.

Pittsford defenseman Connor Thornton recently signed his National Letter of Intent to Rollins College (Florida). Connor will start his third year on the Panther varsity after earning first team All-League (MC-d1) honors and an honorable mention on the All-Section Five list.

Geneva midfielder Nick Askin as recently announced his commitment to study and play lacrosse at SUNY Oswego after gradutation this spring. Nick will start his third year on the Panther varsity with 93g-19a. His five goals in the Class C tournament last year earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team. He was also a second team All-League player (FL). 

Another top tier attackman from Fairport has announced his plans to study and play lacrosse at Cortland next fall. Red Raider senior Colin Peers will start his third year on the varsity with 44g-36a after a strong junior year where he posted 36g-22a. As a result he earned Class A All-Tournament, first team All-League (MC-d1) and All-Section Five second team honors.

Fairport celebrated as over a dozen student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to study and play at Division I or Division II schools. Among the group were six from the boys lacrosse team: Tanner Soudan (UMass Lowell), Nick Krug (Delaware), Jake Knapp (Air Force Academy), Klay Stuver (Cornell), Alex Nicastro and Gavin Ingalls who will move on to Mercyhurst.

The Victor Blue Devil fans and family saw six of their seniors sign National Letters of Intent in a ceremony on Tuesday. Three of the six (Camron Hay, Joey Pezzimenti and Regan Endres) will attend Albany, Alec Russell will attend Le Moyne, Shea Newell will be off to Mercyhurst and Cam Germain will attend St. Bonaventure.

A three-sport athlete, Victor junior midfielder Cal Lambert has announced his commitment to attend the US Millitary Academy at West Point after his graduation in 2021. "Cal knew early on that West Point was a perfect fit. Cal is ready to serve his country and test himself at the highest level." says Head Coach Jim Andre.

Pittsford senior midfielder Ben DiGiovanni celebrated the signing of his National Letter of Intent to study and play at Dartmouth yesterday with family and many friends. The Panther midfielder will start his thrid year on the varsity with 43g-26a.

Reverdy Clarke became the first boys lacrosse player from the Livonia-Avon Lakers to sign a National Letter of Intent to Tampa, when he gathered with family and Coach Don Manard for a brief ceremony. 

Three years after making his commitment to Johns Hopkins University, senior attackman, Casey McDermott made it official today with the signing of his National Letter of Intent. Casey has been an important part of the Baron offense since he arrived on the Varsity as an eight grader. He will start his senior year with 115g-116a. Last season his 31g-42a perfromance helped him to earn first All Section Five honors along with the D&C super 16 team. Inside Lacrosse lists him as 37 in the 2020 class. 

The Hilton Cadets saw three of their seniors sign National Letters of Intent in a ceremony at school on Thursday. Austin Holley who returns to Hilton this season will go to St. Bonaventure. Attackman Zach Boyatzies will be off to Mercyhurst and Ben Mitrano who also plays in the attack will be moving on to Marist.

Penfield families and friends celebrated with three players who signed National Letters of Intent this afternoon. Ben Wildman will play at Babson, Travis Wagner will play at Le Moyne and Buddy Pelish is planning of playing at Haverford

The Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse held their twenty-sixth Hall of Fame dinner Friday night at the Burgundy Basin Inn in Pittsford. With about eighty-five in attendance, teammates, friends and family along with many members of the Hall of Fame, gathered to induct four individuals, and one team into the Greater Rochester Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

On Friday, November 1st, the Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse will install its 27th class. The event will take place at the Burgundy Basin Inn on Marsh Road in Pittsford with a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm. Entering the Class of 2019 are John Natti (Geneva), Carley Ritchlin (Penfield), Jim Paris (Irondequoit), Ben Wineburg (Nazareth/Brockport) and the 1972 Hobart Lacrosse Team.

The full listing of rules changes for the 2020 season were recently released and contain ten approved changes which include a new procedure for restartups, a definition of "possession" and notice of changes in required equipment (that will go into effect in 2021 and 2020).

Let's make that FOUR recruits for Le Moyne as Penfield goalie, Travis Wagner made his commitment a year ago! He joins ALex Russell, Jagger Kerr and Seth Benedict as freshmen next year.

Section Five was well represented in the 2019 Men's Indoor World Championships in September. Penn Yan Head Coach, Brian Hobart, sent along an alumni snapshot taken after the USA team look the bronze medal.

The Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse is, once again, offering Level I training. This time, the Level ONE Clinic will be held on December 8th at the Gates Chili High School (1 Spartan Way, Rochester, NY 14624) from 8:00 AM 11:00 AM. The cost is $50.00 and you must be a member of US Lacrosse to register.

The Greater Rochester Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame will welcome new members with the induction of John Natti, Jim Paris, Carly Richlin, Ben Wineburg and the 1972 Hobart Mens Team as the class of 2019. The 26th Annual US Lacrosse, Greater Rochester Chapter, Hall of Fame Dinner will take place on Friday, November 1st at the Burgundy Basin Inn at 1361 Marsh Road in Pittsford.

There are currently thirty-four teams that play in the Section. They are divided among four classes that compete for Sectional championships and later, the New York State tournaments.

The Greece Central School Districtis looking for a Head Varsity Coach. The Storm is a combined team, with players from al four schools. The team plays as part of Monroe County League (MC-1)and finished the 2019 season with an 11-6 record.

Brighton rising senior attackman Lukas Stanat has recently announced his commitment to play lacrosse at Princeton University after his graduation in 2020.

Four rising seniors ( Evan Alfano, Lukas Stanat, Joey Urlacher and Ben Wildman), playing with the Harvest Lacrosse Club, have announced their college plans.

The folks at SportsFive.NET were pretty much sequestered in July as they made the final adjustments for the new look for the BLaxFive. NET website, so posting stories were on hold. Nevertheless, there were several noteworthy stories that need to be remembered. Stories include Sutton Boland making USA team - Ryan Maloney Injured - Shootout a success and AGR Team Announced.

At the end of each sport season, the NYSPHSAA honors those teams that excel in the classroom. For lacrosse, a team must have at least eleven players who have a 90% average or better during the spring season.

For the seventh time and after a brief absence, Section Five Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2019 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced."It`s always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse recently announced the 2019 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 13th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 6:00 PM and the girls' play at 8:00 PM.

LaFayette/Onondaga came back from behind to defeat Briarcliff 9-8 in OT.  The Lancers scored the last three goals of regulation to force overtime with a little over 2 minutes left on the clock.  LaFayette, before combining with Onondaga, had previously won two State Titles (the last of which was in 2005 as a Class C school).  With their win tonight, they become the 2^nd Team from Section III to win a State Title in Class D (third year with a Class D Tournament).  Leading in scoring for the Lancers was Mason Homer with 3g.  Senior Reid Jackowski finished with 2g.  He was responsible for the tying goal, as well as the game winner in overtime.  In the cage for L/O, Collin Dix recorded 12 saves.  For Briarcliff, their offense was led by Jack Ricciardi (1g-2a) and Kyle Proctor (2g-1a).  Between the pipes was Ian Leahy with 5 recorded saves.

Victor won their fourth NYS Finals in five years today with a 9-7 win over John Jay.  Blue Devil’s senior goalie Liam Haller was the pillar that lifted them to their Title.  He finished with 21 saves (75%) and played one of the best games of his career in today’s matchup.  The Indians recorded 39 shots with 28 on cage (72% on cage).  Haller often faced not only the primary shot, but secondary shots from the doorstep; he was repeatedly on point and came up with multiple saves that were stellar.  Offensively, Jack LaRue (4g) and Camden Hay (3g-1a) led in scoring.  For John Jay, Jack Browne played the entire game between the pipes and recorded 2 saves.  Offensively, Dean Ford finished with 3g-1a.

Massapequa won their second State Title in school history with a 10-6 win over Fairport.  The Chiefs won their first title in 2014 with a 16-2 win over Fayetteville-Manlius.  The Chiefs scored the opening two goals and led throughout the contest.  They won the first three quarters (and tied 2-2 in the fourth).  

The New York State Championships are up next on Saturday, June 8th at St. John Fisher College.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: The rain poured down on both semifinal games at St. John Fisher College today, but the sun was shining on both Fairport and Victor as they came away with wins that send them to the New York State Championship games on Saturday.

Victor heads to the State Finals for the fifth consecutive season after their 12-6 win over the Section IV Champion, Vestal.  The Golden Bears scored the last two goals to catchup in the final four minutes.  The Blue Devils led by eight halfway through the fourth quarter.  Leading in scoring for Victor were Camden Hay (3g-4a) and Joey Pezzimenti (2g-3a).  For Vestal, senior Matt Thrasher finished with 4g to lead his team.  

The New York State semi-finals are up next on Wednesday, June 5th at various places around the state.

After winning their first Sectional Title in school history, East Aurora can now add their first NYS Tournament win to their list of achievements.  East Aurora fought back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Geneva 8-6.  The Blue Devils scored 7 of the last 8 goals to secure the victory.  They held the Panthers scoreless for 21 minutes spanning the second, third and fourth quarters.  The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Drew Kenney with 4a.  Jack Rogers was the only other Blue Devil to score more than one point (2g).  Geneva goalie Brandon Wayne finished with 11 saves in the contest, including six in the final quarter.

In the lowest scoring State game in 11 years, Fairport defeated Orchard Park 5-1 to advance to the next round.  Today’s game was also the lowest scoring Class A game in 24 years, going back to Mahopac defeating Ward Melville 2-1 in the second round of Class A Tournament of 1996.  The game was a pairing of a strong defense from both teams and a Fairport offense that had trouble getting their shots on cage.  Fairport goalie Tim Defendis finished with 12 saves (92%) and Orchard Park goalie Brendan Hamm recorded 7 saves (58%).

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

The 2019 Player of the year honors were announced at the end of the Section Five Championships.The winners were Jack Brennan from Irondequoit, Sutton Boland from Victor and Devin Campbell from Bloomfield-Honeoye.

The Marcus Whitman team earned the Class D Sportsmanship Award from the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association. The Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Award was presented by Tob Cantibene for GVLOA to Head Coach Greg O' Connor and some of his players at the halftime of the Class D game last night.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: All four Champions have been crowned and are ready to advance to the NYS Regionals (quarter finals) which will be held at St. John Fisher College on Saturday. The Class A game will see Fairport vs Orchard Park at 10:00 AM, The Class B Game will feature Victor vs Hamburg at 12:30, The Class C game with Geneva vs East Aurora will start at 3:00 PM and the Class D game will see Penn Yan vs Edan at 5:30PM. Tickets will be $6.00 as set by NYS.

Victor secured their sixth straight Section Five Title with two goals in the final sixty seconds.  The Braves had taken a two goals lead with less than six minutes remaining and held on to a one goal lead with 1:00 left on the clock.  The Blue Devils never gave up and defeated Canandaigua 7-6 in regulation.  The game was a defensive battle with both goalies coming up strong.  Canandaigua’s Aiden Kenyon finished with 9 saves (7 in the first half) and Victor’s Liam Haller finished with 14 saves (including 5 in the fourth quarter).  Both goalies were named to the All Tournament Team.

Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24^th Sectional Title.  The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break.  They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime.  The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass.  The Mustangs scored with 0:05 left in the first overtime period with an inside dodge by Colton Smith. Smith was named to the All Tournament Team.

The Penfield team earned the Class A Sportsmanship Award from the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association. The Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Award was presented by Frank Mangione for GVLOA to Head Coach John Schembri and some of his players at the halftime of the Class A game last night.

After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014.  Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4.  Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley.  Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off.  Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport.  Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season.  Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins.  Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff.  Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team.

Geneva won their second back to back Class C Championship tonight against Wayne 10-1.  The Panthers defeated the Eagles 13-2 last year.  The Panthers were slowly plodding throughout the contest and added a few goals in each quarter.  Midfielder Sam Miller was named the Class C All Tournament MVP after a 3g-3a day (60% of all goals).  Additionally, goalie Brandon Wayne finished with an exceptional day, recording 13 saves.  Of those, 10 came in the first half while holding the Eagles scoreless during that period.  Both senior were instrumental in the success of the Panthers this season.

Top seeded Fairport came out and strong and finished even stronger in their 11-6 win over fifth seeded Penfield.  The Red Raiders came into tonight's contest looking for revenge from last season's 9-8 loss in the Championship matchup.  The Patriots led that game for nearly the entire contest and held off a late advance by the Red Raiders.  Tonight, the game was the opposite with Fairport taking control and the Patriots looking for the comeback.

There were Thirty-four games played last week as the regular season ended with one game on Friday. There were seventy-two out of section games played this year. Section Five won forty (56%) and the out of section teams have won thirty-two.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only one game left to be played when Eastridge and Marcus Whitman meet on Friday, the last big day of teh regularseason came to an end with lots of close games. Wayne beat Midlakes 12-11, Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse 12-11 in overtime, Pal-Mac beat Geneva in overtime and Thomas beat Penn Yan 5-4.

As the regular season winds down this last week, prognosticators and amateur math wizards are working hard to figure out who will take the top seeds in each of the four tournaments that begin with the out bracket round on Monday, May 20th.

Greece Storm fought off the late push by HFL to defeat the Cougars 10-9 in the first overtime period.  Greece led by four with ten minutes left in regulation.  HFL scored four goals to force overtime.  However, Matthew McHale scored for the Storm with 0:54 left in the first overtime period.  The Storm controlled the entire game, and although HFL tied the game twice (1-1 and 9-9), Greece never trailed.  They also held a four goal lead at three different points before HFL’s late stretch forced overtime.

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW:Pittsford defeated Orchard Park and JD defeated Victor, while Gates Chili had a big win against East United today.(Score only from Pittsford at post time.)

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW:With the games played today, there is only one week left in the regular season. Although more games played today were mismatches, several were close, starting with a double overtime win for SPencerport and a one goal win for Irondequoit.

After trailing for nearly the entire game, Irondequoit came back to take their first lead early in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles won in the first overtime period 9-8 over McQuaid Jesuit.  The Knights took the early lead with 4 of the first 5 goals; they led by three goals twice in the first half before Irondequoit came back to tie the game (6-6) at the half.

Brighton fought back from a two goal deficit at the end of the third quarter to defeat Pittsford in overtime 10-9.  The Barons and Panthers played a back and forth game with both teams leading before Pittsford took a two goal lead at the end of the third quarter. Brighton’s defense held the Panthers scoreless for the final 13 minutes of regulation and another 3 minutes in overtime.

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon and conjunction with the Connors and Ferris law firm have restructure the Players of the Week awards and for the first time this year, there will be winners in each of the four classes.

Fairport defeated JD for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period.  Colin Peers scored his third goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the victory.  Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year.  The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12.  Overall, JD still leads the series 7-4.  This season, the Rams came into the game undefeated at 10-0.  They had two close one goal wins over West Genesee (8-7) and ESM (11-10).  With three minutes remaining in regulation, JD led by three 9-6 and were looking strong to keep up their undefeated season.  Fairport scored three goals in the final 2:37 to send the game into overtime.  Peers scored both the game tying goal as well as the overtime goal.

Webster Schroeder fought back from a four goal deficit to defeat Churchville-Chili 9-8 in the first overtime period.  The Warriors scored the final five goals (including the overtime goal) in the win.  They held the Saints scoreless for 13 minutes.

Bloomfield-Honeoye led for nearly the entire game in their 10-9 win over Brockport.  The Blue Devil only led one (at 2-1) and only for 10 seconds before a face-off fast-break tied the game again.  Overall, the game was tied three times, but the Pride remained in control for the majority of the game.   Every time that Bloomfield-Honeoye pulled ahead, Brockport fought back to keep the game close, but it was not enough to come out on top.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was a big day, with fifteen games and many exciting matchups and when they games were all played, there were five one-goal games and a number of suprising finishes including Brighton at Victor, where they Barons won a 12-8 victory. Brockport was a 9-8 winner over Gates Chili, Greece was a 7-6 winner over Spencerport, Rush-Henrietta was a 6-5 winner over HF-L, Pittsford was an 11-10 winner over Irondequoit and Schroeder was an 8-7 winner over Penfield. Hilton beat Thomas 9-3. It was only the second time the Cadets (7-2) have won against the Titans. 

Schroeder improved to 5-4 with an overtime win against Penfield 8-7.  Nick Hauman scored the winning overtime goal for Schroeder.  This is the second game of the season where the Patriots have lost in overtime.  Schroeder came to dominate the first half before Penfield began a comeback in third quarter.

Fairport took an early lead and then held off Canandaigua to defeat the Braves 9-6.  The Red Raiders scored the final two goals in the last minute with empty net goals after the Braves pulled their goalie in an attempt to get the ball back.  Klay Stuver (who scored both empty net goals) led his team with 4g-1a.  Goalie Tim Defendis finished with 11s/6ga (65%) for the Red Raiders.

After dropping their first five games, Spencerport is on a two game streak with big wins against Brockport (19-10) and tonight against R-H 9-7.  The Rangers scored the opening goal with Zach Edwards scoring in the first 60 second unassisted and although the game was tied twice, they never lost the lead.  Rush-Henrietta played hard in the beginning of the third with 4 out of 5 straight goals to tie the game at 6-6.  However, the Rangers came back to finish out the third up by two and hold the Royal Comets to only a single goal late in the fourth.

Pittsford and Canandaigua played a back and forth contest with neither team leading by more than two.  The Panthers won 7-6 after scoring three straight to span the third and fourth quarters.  During their scoring stretch, they held the Braves scoreless for 22 minutes.  The goal scoring was spread out for the Panthers with three players scoring two goals each (Ben DiGiovanni, Ryan Dumont and Sonny Imburgia).  Harrison Cross led in scoring with 4a on the game.

Penfield scored four unanswered goals to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter in their 7-6 overtime win against Victor.  The Patriots were down by three halfway through the third quarter before they began their scoring streak.  The fourth goal of the stretch gave Penfield the lead with 3:07 left on the clock and forced Victor to send the game into overtime.  In the first overtime period, Victor won the face-off, but could not get a shot on cage before Penfield cleared the ball upfield and scored on their first shot.  Max Hoadley scored his second goal of the game unassisted to give the win to the Patriots.

There were fourteen games played last week and a number of exciting ones. At the moment there are seventy-one out of section games scheduled and forty-four have been played. Section Five has won twenty-four and the out of section teams have won twenty.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With 0:17 left in the first overtime period, senior midfielder Noah Germano scored to give the Warriors a 14-13 victory over Wayne. Josh Hauman led Schroeder with 5g-2a and Cole Bolin added 3g-2a. Andy Hamel (5g-1a) and John Reagan (2g-5a) led the Wayne offense. Wayne was the last undefeated team in the section.

There were forty-two games played last week and a number of exciting ones. At the moment there are seventy-one out of section games scheduled and thirty-nine have been played. Section Five has won twenty-two and the out of section teams have won seventeen.

Thomas scored four of the last five goals to pull ahead in their 10-8 win over Hamburg.  The game was only outside of a one goal game twice.  Throughout the contest, the score was tied each time up to 7-7 with both teams leading at different points in the game.  After Thomas scored their 8-7 lead, the game never tied again and Thomas held out the win.  Their 10^th goal was scored with 0:12 remaining.  The Bulldogs fall to 6-2 with the loss, with both losses coming from Section Five teams (Canandiagua on 4/6)

Penfield delivered Orchard Park their first loss of the season with a comeback win over the Quakers.  The Patriots won 10-8 after scoring the final four goals of the game and holding Orchard Park scoreless for the final six minutes of the game.  Michael Mitchell scored two of the final four goals and finished with 4g on the game.  Overall, Travis Wagner’s performance in the cage was the lynchpin for the Patriots.  He finished with 21 saves (72%) including multiple point blank saves.  John Richiusa finished 10/15 at the draw and won four straight draws to keep the ball in the Patriot half for the four goal stretch.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: Once again there were many mismatches in the sixteen games played today. On the other hand, Penn Yan won a big game (4-2) with Penfield. Hilton is off to its best start at 5-1 with their 8-7 win today over the Greece Storm. Thomas was a 6-4 winner over Schroeder in Webster and Pittsford was an 11-7 winner over Rush-Henrietta.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were fourteen games played today and all but one was a mismatch. Hilton fought back from an early deficit to defeat Penfield 8-7 in the first overtime period. It was a busy first full week with forty-six games played and all teams have begun their season.. At the moment there are seventy-one out of section games scheduled and twenty-seven have been played. Section Five has won thirteen and the out of section teams have won fourteen.

Churchville-Chili used a strong second quarter to secure the 11-10 win over Rush Henrietta.  The Saints scored the game winning goal with only 0:11 remaining on the clock with an unassisted goal from Patrick Mitchell.  Mitchell, who finished the game with 4 goals, scored the last two goals for the Saints.  Eli Chalmers also scored 4 goals for Churchville-Chili.  Rush-Henrietta was led in scoring by Luke Delavak (3g-2a).

Pittsford scored the opening goal and although Schroeder kept it close, they never forced a tie in the Panthers 9-6 win over the Warriors.  Pittsford took the game to a 4 goal lead twice, including once in the fourth quarter (9-5); however, Schroeder also brought the score within 2 twice, including once in the third quarter (7-5).  Pittsford face-off midfielder Danny Maggio finished 10/18 with a team leading six ground balls.  Defenseman Patrick Sanna also recorded six groundballs.  Attackman Sonny Imburgia finished with 3 recorded takes for the Panthers.  For Schroeder, Travis Dear led with 5 groundballs.  In the cage, Evan Alfano recorded 13 saves.

After a close three quarter, St. Joseph’s Collegiate pulled away with eight unanswered goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to defeat Pittsford 12-7.  The Marauders were led in scoring by Evan Mulderig with 5g-1a.  He played a role in half of the St. Joseph goals.  Pittsford was led in scoring by Ryan Dumont (2g-12a) and Sonny Imburgia (1g-2a).

After leading for the majority of three quarters, RH had to fight back in the final five minutes to defeat Livonia-Avon 10-9.  The Royal Comets had not scored in over 12 minutes when Nick Cowie scored the game winning goal with 0:17 left in regulation. 

Senior Eli Chalmers fed Patrick Mitchell for the game winning goal 3:40 into the first overtime period to give Churchville-Chili the 12-11 win over Williamsville North.  Tonight was opening night of the new Saint’s turf field and Chalmers was a demonstrative force; he finished with 6g-3a and was a part of 75% off all Churchville-Chili goals.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: After the game, one of the officials working it said it best when he said, "This looked like a Sectional Championship game." In a game that went back and forth and right down to the last minute, Victor was a 7-6 winner over visiting Pittsford.

Greece Storm scored five unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters in their 8-5 win over Churchville-Chili. The Storm held the Saints scoreless for over 23 minutes in the contest.  They also spread out their offense with six players making the offensive book.  Jacob Holdaway led in scoring with 3 goals, including the last two.  Churchville-Chili had each of their five goals scored by a different athlete.

After a hard-fought first half, Aquinas pulled ahead in the opening of the third quarter to defeat Livonia-Avon 12-11.  The Little Irish scored four unanswered goals to pull ahead from 4-4 to 8-4 in a little less than 3 minutes.  They held that lead for most of the third quarter, before Livonia-Avon fought back in the final five minutes of quarter with their own four goal stretch.  The game was tied 8-8 with under a minute in the third quarter.  Aquinas's Joey Sciortino scored with 0:04 left on the clock to give the Little Irish the 9-8 lead going into the final 12 minutes.  After that they held off the Lakers for the victory.

After the game, one of the officials working it said it best when he said, "This looked like a Sectional Championship game." It certainly, although as the teams are in different classes, they won' t play again this year.

The season started slowly with only four games played thus far by eight teams. At the moment there are seventy out of section games scheduled.

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Two games made it tonight before the snow arrived with Gananda winning their opener at East United. The Blue Panthers scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed in their victory. Leading in the scoring for Gananda was Jake Rapp with 5g-2a (7 of 12 points for Gananda). Rapp also scored the first goal of the season for the Blue Panthers with an unassisted goal 3:53 into the game.

Gananda travelled up to East United to play their first game of the season tonight and defeated the Eagles 12-3.  The Blue Panthers scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed in their victory.  Leading in the scoring for Gananda was Jake Rapp with 5g-2a (7 of 12 points for Gananda).  Rapp also scored the first goal of the season for the Blue Panthers with an unassisted goal 3:53 into the game.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: The 2019 season officially started with Brockport and Livonia-Avon playing the first game of the year and the only game of the day.

With the closing of the Laxpower.com web site by Active Sports Network last year, the lacrosse community lost another lax-oriented forum board.

In 1969 Fairport Lacrosse began their scholastic lacrosse journey with the formation of their fisrt Varsity team.

Kyle Barrett and Paul Wilson will once again offer a clinic for team statisticians. This year the clinic will be offered at the Pittsford Mendon High School.

Brockport senior goalie Ed Rowley has announced that his commitment to study and play lacrosse at Alfred next fall.

Bernie Haims recently announced that he will continue his education and play lacrosse at SUNY Oswego aftre his graduation this spring.

Sepencerport defensive/midfielder Riley Schmeer signed with Roberts Wesleyan on January 14th with family, friends, and coaches in attendance.

Pittsford midfielder Sammy Thomolaris signed his National Letter of Intent for Linestone this afternoon with family and teammates in attendance.

The Livonia-Avon Lakes ahave a new Head Coach as Don Manard moves up from the Junior Varsity team.

Wayne senior offensiveman, Billy Thomson recently signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his studies and play lacrosse at Le Monye after graduation in June.

The Greece Storm will be sending two attackmen to Alfred University next fall. Trevor Gilliard and Paul Forte both announced their decision to attend and play for the Saxtons after their graduate this spring.

The Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse is, once again, offering Level I training. This time, the Level ONE Clinic will be held on March 10th at the Total Sports Experience facility (880 Elmgrove Road, Rochester, NY 14624) from 9:00 AM to Noon. The cost is $50.00 and you must be a member of US Lacrosse to register.

Victor junior face off midfielder Regan Endres has announced his commitment to play lacrosse at SUNY Albany after his graduation in 2020.

The Rochester chapter of US Lacrosse is, once again, offering an educational program for coaches of both the men's program and the women's program on Sunday, December 9th at Gates Chili High School.

There were ten student-athletes at the Victor National letter of intent signing today and four of them were defensemen on the boys lacrosse team.

Jon Gaglio  signed a national letter of intent as he plans to study and play at Wheeling Jesuit (West Virginia).

Jack Petersen and Conner Fingar signed national letters of intent to study and play lacrosse at SUNY Albany after graduation next spring.

Sonny Imburgia  signed a national letter of intent for Binghmation University at a signing event at Pittsford yesterday.

Stevie Katz signed his national letter of intent to study and play lacrosse at Mercyhurst University after graduation next spring.

Jacob Emmick signed his national letter of intent to study and play lacrosse at St. Bonaventure University in a signing event at Penfield High School yesterday.

The Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse held their twenty-fifth Hall of Fame dinner Friday night at the Burgundy Basin Inn in Pittsford.

On Friday, November 2nd, the Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse will install its XX class. The event will take place at the Burgundy Basin Inn on Marsh Road in Pittsford with a social hour beginning at 6:00 pm.

Penn Yan needed overtime for their trip to the Championships, and Victor has periods of running time in their win over Corning. Webster Thomas had a close first half with Jamesville-DeWitt, but finished their exciting season at CN-S today.

All three Section Five teams won their Western Regional games today and will advance to the semi final round in Syracuse (CNS) on Wednesday.

In the third quarter of the Class C finals Penn Yan proved why they have won 21 Section Five Titles. This year was their sixth in a row and 18th in the last 19 years.

Pittsford came into the "Big Game" ready to avenge their earlier loss and eager to prove that they could be "the top team in the country and they nearly did so

With the semifinals concluded, the teams are set for the 2016 Section Five Championships. Victor will play Pittsford in Class A, Thomas will play Canandaigua in Class B and Penn Yan will play Aquinas in Class C.

The highly regarded Blue Devils from Victor had no trouble securing their ticket to the finals as they defeated Webster Schroeder.

Three of the four quarterfinals were mismatches with the higher seeded team winning, but in the #4-#5 match up it with the number five seeded Webster Schroeder, taking out Fairport (#4) in a 10-9 overtime thriller.

There were no upsets in the Section Five tournaments in the out bracket rounds as the higher seeded teams won in each case. Mynderse had a close one with Livonia, winning 10-9 in overtime.

The 2016 Section Five Tournaments began today with a single out bracket game for the Class A Tournament. Hilton was the winner as they hosted Rush-Henrietta.

In a game that see-sawed back and forth, Thomas scored the winning goal in overtime to defeat Pittsford 12-11. On the other end of town Penfield defeated Schroeder by a goal in the last minute of the game.

With only one more day left in the regular season, but four teams finished their schedule today. Penn Yan and Churchville-Chili were the winners and will wait to see how the tournament seeding turns out on Friday.

The Greece Thunder was a one goal winner over Brockport in the closest game of the day. Irondequoit had a 13-7 win over Penfield and Wayne took Waterloo.

Aquinas and McQuaid Jesuit both traveled west to play games against St. Francis and St. Joseph (Section VI). Aquinas was a 13-4 winner and the Knights lost to St Joes.

Gananda ruined Wayne`s undefeated season with a one goal win (10-9) on this last Saturday of the regular season. Brockport took a one goal win from Eastridge and Brighton was a 9-6 winner over visiting Lightning.

There were only two games played on Friday and both games were won by a single goal. In the afternoon game, Bloomfield-Honeoye beat host Batavia 6-5.

There were sixteen games played today as the regular season is starting to wind down. Pittsford came from behind to beat host Corning 8-7 in the closest game of the day. Thomas took Irondequoit by two (12-10) and Gananda beat Mynderse 11-8.

The Eagles took their record to 13-0 with their win today over Newark. Junior offensiveman Jon Ecker, who lead the team in goals (with 50g-18a) was the leader in this game with 4g-2a.

A full day of games today saw mostly mismatches but a number of interesting games. Penn Yan took a 10-7 game from Fairport and the Lightning won their game against Brockport in overtime.

Five games were played on Monday. Avon beat Batavia 8-4 and Wayne beat the Thunder 12-7. Other winners were Pal-Mac over Geneva. Brockport over Newark and Canandaigua over McQuaid Jesuit.

After a 6-4 half, Wayne and Pal-Mac traded goals in the second half and the Eagle took a 7-5 win aft home. Other winners on Friday night were Mynderse, Gananda and Geneva.

The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

Among the seventeen games played today were two in Webster and they both had exciting finishes. Schroeder hosted Fairport in a game that started with a 1-1 half and ended with the Raiders winning 4-3.

Gananda used their game as a benefit to help support their former Head Coach Mike Pane in his battle against brain cancer. Aquinas continued their winning ways in a 5-3 win over Canisius and Waterloo won a non-league game against Batavia.

Fourteen of the fifteen games played today were mismatches of various magnitudes. The most exciting game of the day was the overtime win by Spencerport over Brockport.

In the only Friday game, Gates Chili defeated Brockport 15-9.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

Spencerport and Gates Chili played a close and often exciting game which the Rangers won 11-10. Batavia won their game with Avon 7-4.

Thirteen games were played today with a number of games in the "must watch" group. Victor took visiting Fairport 17-7 and Pittsford took Irondequoit 19-5.

There were only three games on Monday. The closest as Aquinas over St. Joe`s (6-4). Pal-Mac defeated Batavia and Livonia beat UPrep

After a close game throughout, the Saints took control at the end of the game and defeated Hilton at the very end of the first overtime period. Pittsford remained undefeated with an 11-7 win over Cazenovia.

Penn Yan played a close game for the first half and then took off in the second half, defeating CA 9-5. Meanwhile, Penfield took Orchard Park 14-4 and R-H edged out Greece Lightning 4-3. Batavia used even scoring in their 10-7 win over UPrep.

Irondequoit has a 15-9 win over visiting Ithaca while Livonia used a last minute flurry to take Rush-Henrietta in overtime. Waterloo and Midlakes played a close game, but the Indians held on to their one goal lead for the win.

In a close game throughout, Gananda scored three goals in under a minute and a half to force overtime, where Wayne senior midfielder Cooper Pieroni scored the winning goal on a feed from Jack Camp to give the Eagles a 15-14 win. Avon defeated UPrep 17-10.

There were fifteen games played today and, as usual, many were mismatches. In the more exciting games, Aquinas needed overtime to defeat McQuaid Jesuit in GRALL action.

There was only one game in the Section today. Marcus Whitman traveled to Avon and although they had a six goal push in the final quarter fell to the Braves 14-12.

One of the first beautiful spring days saw thirteen games played in the sunlight. Pal-Mac overcame a three goal deficit to defeat Geneva in overtime.

In the only game on Friday, Brighton defeated host Greece Lightning as the attackmen combine for 11g-6a.

There were twelve games played on Thursday, and once again, many were mismatches.

In the only game on Wednesday, after a close half (9-8) the Rangers took off in the second half, scoring seven goals in the thirds and cruised to a 21-12 win at Arcadia.

Brighton`s Brady McDermott scored with 0:59 remaining in regulation to secure a 14-13 win over Webster Thomas. Aquinas used two overtime periods to secure their win from Canisius as all but one team in the section played games today.

A number of teams took the opportunity to play out of section teams today. Only Webster Thomas was walked away with a win. In section, however, Schroeder beat Eastridge and Wayne beat Gates Chili.

In the only game on Friday, The Screaming Eagles defeated Newark with the McDowell brothers scoring a combined three goals.

On the biggest night thus far, there were eleven games played and the closest game was three goals as Gates Chili held off a last flurry of goals from the Greece Lightning, winning 12-9 and Churchville-Chili who defeated Spencerport 13-10.

For the first time in program history, the Cougars beat the Eagles tonight with a score of 9-8.

After more than a half dozen games were postponed today, the only game left saw Brockport defeating Eastridge 16-13 with senior midfielder scoring 5g-1a for the Blue Devils.

There were only two games played today. Geneva went to Horseheads (Section IV) and lost in overtime while Penfield played the first game under the lights on the turf field tonight and came away with their second win of the season.

Aquinas held the lead for much of the game, but a strong showing by the Eagles gave Irondequoit their second win of the season. Daniel Doktor (2g-2a) led the offensive effort.

The Panthers played a close game with Orchard Park (Section VI) for much of the first quarter, but after a 3-3 tie, they never looked back, holding the Quakers to 1 goal in the second half while scoring seven of their own.

It is vacation week and there were six games played on Tuesday. Webster Schroeder scored three goals in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but the Cougars came through with the 11-10 overtime goal.
